View Full Version : The New Bruise Brothers

In the early 80's the Spurs had a trio called the bruise brothers. George Johnson, Dave Corzine, Kevin Restani, Paul Griffin, Mark Olberding, and Reggie Johnson led the league in rebounding, and blocked shots and was 3rd in fouls (1980-81). This is what set the team apart from a .500 team to a contender.

With Oberto and Javtokas as foundation players for the new bruise brothers who else would you like to see added. Players to look at should not be considered stars and should be available through trade or sign and trade as the spurs will not sign free agents.

I guess we can add Bonner to the list for his hustle.

Last year TP, Manu and Tim were the Bruised Brothers.

No question. It would have to be Reggie Evans, who historically has had been one of league leaders in rebound-per-minute averages over the past few seasons.

Of course, it'll never happen here.

Dude, Oberto sucks. When will people realize this?

I've thought the same thing. I'm not quite sure why the Spurs "took a reach" to bring him over. Surely, they could've gotten more production out of that roster spot by investing in a more productive player.

But then, a more productive player would not have come so cheaply.

I just answered my own question. :lol

I'm not sure we have Bruise Brothers yet. Evans would definitely suffice as one.

What we witnessed in the Dallas-Miami series was the Mavs wilting under physical play, especially Dirk. When you muscle this team, body them up and bounce them around a little, they stop driving and start exclusively taking jump shots.

The centers the Spurs had were to pussy to be considered "bruise brother" material.

Sorry, but that goofy statement is beyond repair.

Not to worry. I think the real point I'm trying to get across is that the center postion is going to be by committee. That gives us 18 fouls to lay the wood to anybody that comes into the lane. If the NBA is going to call cheap fouls then we need to get our monies worth. Oberto and Javtotas fills this role. Besides I might one of the few around here that watched the orginal bruise brothers at hemisphere.

The guy comes to a new country and gets a whopping 5 minutes off the bench in the few games he even played. Anyone would suck in that situation. The guy can be more productive if given the chance. Key word = CAN. But at least give the guy some mintues to see if he sinks or swims.

Yeah he could be awesome, if his feet weren't loaded with lead that kept him from jumping.

Oberto can foul as hard as anyone else. He also does something that Rasho and Nazr refused to do. He hustles.
