My NBA familyis telling me that the Pistons have set their sights on free-agent shooting guard Ronald "Flip" Murray .

You might remember Murray from the Pistons' playoff series with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Pistons are in search of a backup guard to replace free agent Tony Delk . Delk, 32, averaged 7.6 points in 24 games with the Hawks and Pistons last season.

Murray, 26, averaged 11.2 points in 76 games with the Sonics and Cavaliers. Many in Cleveland liked the way Murray filled in for Larry Hughes when he was injured. Murray can create his own shot and hit key outside jumpers.

That's something the Pistons want from Rip Hamilton 's backup.

Lindsey Hunter is the backup point guard. He agreed to a two-year contract this week.

I would think that money would be an issue here since the MLE was used on Nazr Mohammed earlier in the week.

Though I'm not overly impressed by what I've seen, Murray will want more than the LLE, which is all the Pistons would have. I doubt Cleveland will do a sign-and-trade.

Looks like I left the Pistons just in time - the entire organization's gone to hell in the last week. Flip Murray? Chucky Atkins? :vomit: If this is accurate, what is Jomars thinking?

Y'all're lucky that this came via Rob Parker.

your team didnt do that great either. You need a good scorer so you go and pick up Ben Wallace????? Your team was fine on defense, probly one of the best in the league but your offense is horrible. The Pistons are in better shape then the Bulls right now.

Use the LLE to woo Karl Malone out of retirement to harass Ben when we play the Bulls.

Lower Level Exception. I think teams can use this every other year.

Never heard of it.... How much is it?

I thought it was just BAE(Bi annual expecption) and MLE(Mid-Level expection)

BAE=1.75
MLE=5.3

Also the pistons used BAE on Lindsey Hunter( 2 year 3.5) And Nazr for MLE...

Fair weather? I've stayed with the Pistons through whole decades at a time where their regular season records were much worse than anything Saunders will put up for the remainder of his contract, through 16 and 21-win seasons, and I'm leaving now because I'm "fair weather"? Okay. You win. Doesn't really matter, anyway after the offseason ends.

But how about a response to the topic instead of to my lighthearted joke? Is Flip Murray a Piston kind of player?

I've heard it's worth 1.7 mil and it's bi-annual so it's probably the same thing as the BAE.

Midlevel exception: Each season, an NBA team is allowed to sign a player -- or players -- to a contract amount that, in its first season, equals the league's average salary (estimated at $5.3 million next season), even if it means exceeding the salary cap. Teams are also allowed a lower-level exception <--LLE (estimated at $1.75 million for 2006-07) that can be used every other year.

Its the same....Some people just call it diferent things.

^I believe the MLE is only given to teams over or near the salary cap to allow for them to sign free agents. Don't hold me to it though.

Yep...giving to teams over cap...which many teams are.
