Open Windows explorer. My guess is that your hard drive (c: ) is named Presario_RP. If it is, you need to get rid of some files. If you're a file sharing addict, consider burning some of your stuff to CD or DVD for offline storage.

I'll try that thanks. :)

or get a bigger drive

Another thing to try is to empty your recycle bin. Most people think that when you delete a file, it's gone. It just goes into the recycle bin until you empty that. You can have loads of shit in there taking up disk space.

Do a disk clean up and/or disfragment

Do a disk clean up and/or disfragment

disk cleanup would help (but not much) defragment wouldnt do anything except move clusters around so they are more uniform....

What she needs to do is delete all those useless Rasho pictures that are clogging up her harddrive. :smokin

There is no such thing as a useless Rasho picture. I have always thought there were not enough of them to be had. :angel

However, I keep them in yahoo pictures online so the point is moot. :)

Yea, I know the disk disfragment wouldn't help on the memory issue but it wouldn't hurt. :lol

It won't let me do one. I get an error screen saying that a disk check is scheduled.

But when I shut down and re start and try to let it to the check, the computer freezes.

I am afraid to touch it now that I finally have it back up and running.

you should take your pc to someone.

That's strange.

What are your specs?

I helped her clear some files, so she isn't getting the error about disk space anymore. But that bluescreen/freeze up, I couldn't really help her.

That may have fixed everything. I haven't turned it off since you helped me get it functioning.

I considered it, believe me. :lol

You could throw that piece of shit Compaq in the garbage and get a real computer (ie, Abit board, AMD 64-bit CPU, Crucial RAM, Antec Power, Western Digital HD, etc.). I just got done fixing a friend's Compaq, and that thing was horrible. By default it used 30% of the HD just to restore it to its initial state, and they must have some screwed up proprietary way of writing partition tables, because I couldn't read them from Linux cfdisk and Linux fdisk or DOS fdisk, and I couldn't read from the drive with dd even. Windows could read it, and so could KDE though.

Angel, walk away from the computer and put your hands up.

Install this

run a Full scan

then paste in here what you found.

I'm with Bum on this one. Compaqs are a piece of shit. Hell, they all are, even Dell. Best to get someone who knows what he's doing and let him build it for you at half the cost and twice the power. Then go out and buy yourself a killer monitor with the money you saved.

Any major name computer is garbage, unless it's one of their high-end lines. Even then, you're getting a lot of bells and whistles and extra software instead of top of the line RAM, MB, HD, and power.

Not only that, they use shitty custom-made parts to save money, upgrades are a nightmare and are usually more costly than need be otherwise.

I don't know about black helicopters, but there certainly are many more jets than before. The local AFBs must be busy.

i'm very satisfied with my toshiba laptop

With laptops you have no choice but to go with brand names. Toshibas have heat issues and can be heavy, but they are good laptops.

By the way, angel didn't post this thread so y'all could trash her computer. She posted to get help fixing it. :lol

Well, the best way to fix a Compaq is to trash it and start over.

depends on what she does
at work I have compaq's and they work fine
who upgrades computers now does
most just go buy a new computer
putting in drives and memory is not cheap
get a cheap one with a warranty keep it a year or 2 buy a new one when that piece breaks

unless you do series gaming or high end stuff that requires power her computer is fine
