View Full Version : Seems like everyones moving forward but us.

Yeah I know I'm just being too anxious but it seems the Spurs are getting hung up on by too many FA's already.

It must be hard to deal for any big man with Barry, Beno or even Horry/Oberto. They just don't cut the cake for a consistant and decent-to-good big man.

And I'm also aware the Spurs seem to not make real movement til later in the summer but this could just be the summer of nothingness.

Too many of us got hung up on Mr. Scola and he won't even be a Spur this season and next season might be too late for him depending on what RC and Pop do with this years bunch slash prospects. And I refuse to get hung up on Ian because although he is just 20 I think I'm not looking to the future for this guy, I'm and most of us are looking at now because we are a title contending team. Jak might help and then again he might be a total flop but what do you do if he is? It seemed like all the pressure on the starters looked to be too much to win it last season that if we have to do it again this next season we'll just fold early again.

And what's sad is all we need is a bench. Not a here and mostly there Horry, or a off and on again Finley, or mostly off Barry or "can we depend on this guy Udrih" fella. Bonner's defense or lack there of could even bite us in the ass because it's not the offense I worry about it's as always the defense. Eric Williams is a nobody these days.

I know I'm venting but mostly I'm what-iffing. Oh, the headaches of being a Spurs fan.

Yeah, I was awfully afraid the rest of the league's GMs would "turn up their nose" at whatever the Spurs are offering as trade bait. Which is precisely why I felt the club should have moved forward with getting a FA center - specifically Pryzbilla. They can still resolve this by acquiring either Lorenzen Wright or Brenden Haywood. However, we have to realize the pickings are slim.

I'm anxious to see what they're gonna do about resolving the "long, athletic" 3 dilemma.

We still have Foster and Maglore on the wire to take a shot at.

Wright is so.... blah. Bad attitude, small hands like Nazr... maybe as a backup, maybe. And Haywood is slowwww. Again I'd take him for a backup. But to start I'd want Foster or Magloire.

It's pretty hard to move forward when you're one of the top three teams in the league.[/realitycheck]

smh, why don't y'all ppl that keep acting like it's the end of the spurs cause they don't over pay garbage just find new teams to root for??? omg we didn't sign rasho part 2 we or doom. that's they way y'all sound. this is a weak free agent market no point in spending just to spend. cause i know over half of y'all that want to spend will be bashing the player 2 weeks into the season for not scoring more then 10 points and y'all say he's overpaid and other bullshit that is said on the board

Amen to that. The Spurs were a crappy call and two free throws away from the WC finals. Phoenix would have been summarily owned, and I don't think D-Wade would have had the same success against Bruce Bowen (playing against his old coach)- do you?

Two free throws from a BS call. I don't remember Rasho or Nazr playing much in that series, so I can't say I miss either one of them. Those two moves were addition by subtraction.

Damn straight. :tu

We haven't spent on anyone yet because there's been no-one out there that we can afford who can help us much.

We will bolster the team, and I have no doubt Pop and RC have a surprising acquisition or two up their sleeves. I sincerely hope it's Trevor Ariza and Jackie Butler (or at least one of the two), but it's more likely someone like Foster and who knows?

There are plenty of teams who haven't done anything yet, so let's just see what happens after July 12...

We'll certainly see after 7/12. We'll see if all this "blind faith" in Pop and RC is either properly justified or sorely misplaced.

Indeed we will. However I'd like to point out that this happens just about every year with our team - everyone jumps ship because we aren't doing anything, and yet we have the best winning % in the NBA over the last 8 years.

I can't believe that Pop and RC don't know they have gaps to fill. I can't believe that Holt doesn't realise that Tim has about 3 years of top production left. So, I wouldn't call it "blind faith" - these are smart people who know what needs to be done and have consistently flown under the radar to do so in the past. I see them doing that again. If that's blind faith then so be it, but it seems more like educated judgement based on past trends to me.

Your right, but last season was a wasted season. Duncan was healthy, but the Spurs were paying the price for chasing Kidd.

Nbadan - generally respect your posts but I don't get this one.

How was last season wasted (except for the obvious bow out in game 7 when we should've gone the whole way)?

Didn't we acquire 3 players last offseason that everyone thought made us prohibitive favourite to go all the way again? Even though Fin is not the Fin of old, NVE turned out to have the knees of a grandmother, and Oberto did nothing, at the time we still thought they did well last offseason.

I trust in them again this season.

Watch them grab one of the young, cheap swingmen out there (Ariza or Jones or Dupree or whoever), a quality third guard for the minimum, and either a young project C to throw into the fire, or an older guy like Foster on a very reasonable 2 year contract.

I could be totally wrong, but for the Spurs to totally screw up this offseason would be going against type.

Any year you have the best player in the league and you don't surround him with the right people to win a Championship is a wasted year in my book. If Ginobili can't get it done, then trade him for someone who can, although I doubt that Minnesota would send Garnett to SA. The only player SA should have loyalty to is Tim Duncan. Everyone else is ultimately tradeable.

Okay, I get what you are saying now, but don't agree. The Big Three have chemistry built over 2 championships now, and it's not like the team did nothing to improve last season. As I said, most of us were exstatic when we heard we got Fin, NVE and Oberto. Hell, we were one foul away from taking Miami in 6 in the Finals.

I give the Big 3 at least 2 more years together unless they start to openly hate each other which I very much doubt. Tony will continue to improve, Manu had a down year but will play smarter next year (my guess is that he will work on his pull-up, midrange game over the summer), and Timmy, well, let's hope the p-f is gone and he can ragain the true Timmy dominance playing closer to the basket.

I give our front office the benefit of the doubt everytime... the last time I questioned them was when we traded Antonio Daniels for Steve Kerr (Blazers).. my first thought was what in the hell are we doing making a rival stronger and us weaker?... needless to say.. I stood corrected..
