Seems strange about Viktor after he spent basically the whole season in SA. Is there any chance the Spurs are going to sign Robertas and Viktor this week and then add them?

I guess there's a chance. The roster is subject to change.

Lamayn Wilson plays in France but I don't know him at all.

His stats : 16.9pts/6.9rbds in 28.9min. He plays PF and has a quite good outside shoot (38% from euro 3's).

I would just like to say a big HELL YES to Taquan Dean. I know he doesnt really fill a need, unless he shows he can play the point, but the kid is a baller and as clutch as they come!

What happened to Javtokas?

Don't know.

The reports of Javtokas being on the team were out of Europe. Maybe they were wrong.

Or maybe the Spurs are going to sign Jav first before adding him to the SL team.

Javtokas is too busy single-handedly rescuing 1 billion Chinese in a flooded region of the Yangtszee, etc.

Why wouldn't Sanikidze be on the team? That makes no sense to me.

I guess either he's injured, he really sucks or perhaps he's playing overseas. Anyone know if he could be doing something with the Georgian natioanl team?

Mr. Body

I have a sneaking suspicion Sanikidze isn't close to being ready to compete with the relative talents and athletes at an NBA summer league.

Well, part of the SL is getting players face time with new levels of talent and gaining a brief amount of experience there. It's not only an exhibition. I feel the team doesn't think the guy is ready to play against this level of talent yet.

I hope I'm wrong. I hope they've kept under wraps a skinny Georgian GOD and already plan on signing him to dunk on everyone's faces next season... but I don't think so.

^The Spurs were more excited about Viktor than even Pop's excitement over Beno that draft. I hope the Spurs had better judgment than that! And he was in SA all season for some reason- you would think, but not a word has been spoken about him in the media except to say he was expected to play in Europe next year.

Gardner gets a look from Spurs
Missouri’s top scorer last season wasn’t a draft pick, but San Antonio gives him a chance.
By MIKE DeARMOND
The Kansas City Star

http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/sports/15009097.htm

Thomas Gardner wasn’t taken in the NBA draft last month, but he’ll get a chance with the San Antonio Spurs summer team.

“He has an offer in Europe,” agent Bill McCandless told The Kansas City Star on Monday. “But San Antonio had an interest before the draft, during the draft and after the draft. That’s what he’s going to do.”

Gardner, Missouri’s leading scorer last season as a junior, is nursing a sore finger on his non-shooting left hand. It was hurt during a workout with Portland before the draft and then injured again in a subsequent workout with Seattle.

I'm interested in Karualov...I know this guys numbers have sucked in the upper Russian League but he hasn't got any PT.

I remember seeing some of his stats in some of the lower level leagues and they were excellent. Still, he''s about 26 now and if he hasn't developed yet at the upper levels then I doubt he ever will. But you never know...some of the stats I saw for him were niiiiiice.

And I remain clueless on why anyone thinks Sanikidze is anywhere close to being NBA ready...hell, I don't think this kid is summer league ready yet. I doubt the Spurs have given up on him though....Manu and Scola weren't NBA ready until they were 23-24 years old...Sanikidze is only 20 or something.

Damn...those numbers are actually better than I thought on the B League. I didn't think he was getting any PT there either.

The stats I was talking about were from like 3 years ago or something...not on that team either....and they were good, like if he was producing them at the highest level he'd be drawing comparisons to Sabonis or something.

Thing that worries me is his lack of FTA's and tons of 3PA's make me believe he has no slashing game. If he could drive from the three-point line to the rim, he'd get to the line more than 10 times in four games.

He must be a spot shooter with some decent inside moves.

Especially since he has a nice stroke from the charity stripe.

If he's still extremely skinny, he might not like the contact when he drives. As if it's any comparison :angel , at his age I was the budding small forward-type. Usually I'd launch 3s, sometimes post up, but it wasn't until I beefed up a little and could take the contact that I enjoyed developing a slashing and mid-range game.

Or, maybe he's not quick enough to get around defenders. That'd be unfortuante, but a great shooter can always get drives.

Sanikidze Leads Georgia To Final

Viktor Sanikidze carried Georgia into the final of the Ostchem U20 European Championship Division B with a dominant performance in his side's 74-63 semi-final defeat of Finland.

Sanikidze tallied 27 points and 14 points for Georgia, who earn promotion to Divison A in 2007.

A cat and mouse game saw Finland lead 14-15 at the end of the first quarter with 10 points from Petteri Koponen.

However Georgia lead at the half thanks to 13 and 7 rebounds from Sanikidze and 14 points from Iraki Sakvarelidze. 11 first half turnovers from Finland also added to their woes and Georgia led 41-34 at the start of the third quarter.

With 6 mins to go in the third a long three from Jari Vanttaja narrowed the Georgian lead to 48-41 but the red team replied immediately with a three of their own, however, the Finns narrowed the gap closer to 55-50 at the end of the third.

By now Koponen had moved on to 15 points and Sanikidze led all players with 20 points and 10 rebounds

The last quarter was much like the first, with both teams turning the ball over and making a number of long range jumpers. The Finns who had been one of the surprises of the tournament struggled with foul trouble losing their point guard Vuori with 5 minutes remaining.

With 90 seconds left the Georgians clung to a 69-59 lead. A pair of free throws put them up by two more with less than a minute to go . The Finns challenge was over and Georgia ran out 74-63 winners.

Georgia will take on FYROM in Sunday's final.

Sanikidze needs to stay in Europe.

He's still very young, and he can still afford to polish his game up more.

In a sense, he could have possibly been a lottery pick this year....I know scouts raved about him, and claimed if he had never played ball at Globe Tech he could have been lottery potential, but since he did, that made him become an early entry.

We lucked out getting him in the 2nd round of the 2004 draft.....because if it was not for the early entry and declared this year, we would never be seeing him in a Spurs uniform...we landed 1st round/lottery talent with Viktor.....ala...Butler this year.

Anyways, he was here in the States a while, so I'm sure the Spurs have already set him up with a weight program.

He should go back to the French League...maybe he can land on Tony's team....Paris Basket-Racing, or even somewhere like Pau-Orthez, but that may be asking too much.

Like I said before, the Spurs are going to have all that cap in 2008...Ian and Sanikidze won't even make huge dents into that cap....they will more than likely come together....perfect timing....because Elson will be gone (Ian can replace him), and as of right now Bowen can still give us 2 great years (and Viktor can take the torch from him).

Maybe the Spurs are not in such a rush to acquire that long 3 after all. They've seen plenty of Viktor, and know what they have in him. They also feel Bowen still has 2 years in him.....so in a sense we already have that long 3 secured.....it's a matter of time....

But right now, stay in Europe and polish your game, Viktor.

Hopefully, Ian, Viktor, Butler, and Parker all can carry the load after 2010 and make Duncan's late 30's seem like his early 30's someday.

No matter what the competition you want to see a young man stand out and put up some dominant numbers. He definitely has the talent, and has the chance to be something special.

Do you think he can turn himself into a defensive monster? I know he has the laterall quickness, but I don't know how much he is dedicated on that side of the ball.

Well, one big difference is that Division A mainly consists of the Big European countries that have big leagues and that heavily produce NBA talent....Serbia Montenegro, Spain, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia, France, Greece, Russia, Germany, etc....

Division B clearly are smaller countries with less known talent....Georgia, Poland, Finland, Macedonia, Ireland, Austria, Ukraine, Portugal, Netherlands, etc....

That may be one of the reasons or it may not.....Sanikidze definitely deserves to be playing in that A Division.

Slovenia wins bronze in Division A (Italy gets owned again):

Emir Preldzic scored 29 points as Slovenia secured the bronze medal at the OSTCHEM U20 European Championship Men with an 83-75 victory over Italy.

Preldzic scored five points in a crucial 9-0 fourth quarter run as Slovenia pulled ahead 72-63 with 3:28 remaining in the game.

Italy would not get closer than five points during the rest of the game.

Besides Preldzic's performance, Slovenia also received double-digit scoring from Jaka Klobucar (15), Dejan Hohler (13), Gasper Vidmar (10) and Aljosa Remus (10).

Ivan Scarponi and Luigi Da Tome each scored 14 points, and Luca Vital and Luca Lechthaler chipped in with 11 points apiece for the Italians.

Slovenia pulled ahead 21-14 after the first quarter and then extended the lead to 11 points - 33-22 - with Klobucar's free throws midway through the second quarter.

After Slovenia led 39-35 at half-time, Italy took their first lead of the game 42-41 on Da Tome's three-pointer.

The teams were tied 57-57 after three quarters only for Slovenia to pull away with Preldzic`s scoring run.

Georgia Win Division B Title // 23 July 2006
Georgia defeated FYROM on Sunday night to claim the Ostchem European Championship Division B title.

Tournament MVP Viktor Sanikidze was once again the driving force for Georgia and his 30-point haul included 11 of 21 shooting, four three-pointers and a couple of thunderous dunks.

Combining with some smart play from his team-mates and in particular point guard Giorgi Gamqrelidze, who netted 15 points of his to go with his 8 assists, the Georgians took control in the last quarter running out winners 88-96.

With both teams already qualified for Division A, some thought the game would be a formality, but with serious bragging rights at stake both teams sought the win from the tip-off.

Some spectacular play from both teams had the crowd applauding through the game, and the intensity saw emotions and tempers rise at one point.

However ultimately with five Georgian players in double figures, FYROM could do little in the last quarter to prevent their drive for the gold medal. FYROM's center Samardziski tried to rally his team but his 23 points and 12 rebounds could not halt the sweet Georgia victory

One must remember that all the costumes that US citizens wear is part of the American dream for foreigners, who compound the style choices by not being fully attuned to what is "good" taste within the each costume's sub-culture.

I wonder if there's a chance he plays this year and is the "long three" we're looking for this season.

Slim chance.

Expect him to play at the very least one more year in Europe. Hopefully, in the Euroleague.

It will be interesting to see what Sanikidze will do in the best european domestic league.
