View Full Version : Fantasy Football: Live San Antonio Draft

kris

I'm thinking about starting another redraft fantasy league, but holding the draft live at a restaurant or possible other venue. It would probably be in the $25/team ballpark. If there is enough interest to put 12 teams together, I would organize the league and put together the time and place.

For those of you who have never experienced a live fantasy football draft, it's pretty cool and even more exciting than an online draft which is why I'm trying to put it together.

If you are serious about playing and can commit 3-4 hours on a Saturday or Sunday in the near future, please post.

Sign me up, Kris.

I don't think I can do the bigger leagues this year and I'd like to get in a ST one. If it's a Sunday draft, I can make it.

kris

League is filled. There is a pretty good chance someone will not be able to make the date we end up setting. If you are interested as an alternate, please post.

kris

I have tenatively scheduled the draft for Sunday, August 6th at 6:30 p.m.

This of course is assuming Pete can reserve this time for us and a large majority of owners can attend the meeting. However, I do need to make sure this time will work before I submit it to Pete.

Please give me feedback on whether or not this time is good for you. If it is not, please give me times that are. If you are wishy washy about the league and unsure whether or not you will actually show up - do not play. I need every single one of the owners to be able to attend.

Also, Katy I noticed the schedule is not out yet. Do you know when they will complete it?

katyon6th
07-15-2006, 12:29 PM
I'm not sure, Kris. I know that all the other league nights have their completed schedules. Hopefully after this week they will put the rest of ours up. I'll go by the office before the game tomorrow to find out.

The league has been set up on Yahoo. I will be pming information to all of those confirmed shortly.

One option I have at my disposal is whether or not to add bonus points if a qb/wr/rb hits a certain yardage level. For example, if a quarterback hit 450 yards, you would get an extra 5 bonus points on top of your standard score.

Please give me your feedback on that.

Here is how I have set up the league besides the points:

You have a maximum of 40 waiver wire moves. This should be more than enough to last you through the season, but does provide some ceiling to those who overuse the waiver wire.

Trades will go through instantaneously. There will be no league vote on trades. As commissioner, if I see any significantly lopsided trades (ie Ladanian Tomlinson for Derrick Mason + Fred Taylor all things equal) then I will block the trade.

Trade deadline will be November 17.

Playoffs are weeks 15+16.

You may have 7 people on the bench in addition to your 9 starters. This is up one from the standard 6 on Yahoo.

Set up your teams and start preparing.

I say do it.

You have a maximum of 40 waiver wire moves. This should be more than enough to last you through the season, but does provide some ceiling to those who overuse the waiver wire.

I believe in building thru the draft & would like to see no more than 20-25 waiver wires moves. 40, I can live with it.

Trades will go through instantaneously. There will be no league vote on trades. As commissioner, if I see any significantly lopsided trades (ie Ladanian Tomlinson for Derrick Mason + Fred Taylor all things equal) then I will block the trade.

I would like to see something along the lines of once a player is traded from one team to another it can no longer under any circumstances go back to that team which orig had the player. If a player is traded twice that means there are 2 teams that can't have that player anymore.

Trade deadline will be November 17.

That'll work.

You may have 7 people on the bench in addition to your 9 starters. This is up one from the standard 6 on Yahoo.

Awesome! I'd like to suggest that if we're to have apprx 40 wires moves allow the owners 8 vs 7 add'l spots. This would help ensure that teams build thru the draft & those that have prepared aren't penalized or handcuffed. Sorta makes all teams take draft seriously because not as many gems will be on the waiver wire. I can live with 7 though.

Thanks for the effort you're putting into this Kris!
I look forward to the season.

kris
07-20-2006, 05:48 PM
Mr. Dio,

Thank you for your suggestions. I think we will indeed have a point bonus marker if a player hits a milestone. It will be a mild bump, probably 5 points, but just an added bonus for a player who did awesome. Unless I get a rash of negativity against this, it will happen. Also, I may end up lowering the waiver wire moves per your suggestion. 40 is a high roof. I'm thinking it will come down closer to your numbers. I haven't made up my mind yet. Futhermore, I will add one more roster spot per your suggestion. 16 is a small roster. As for the trades, I see where you are coming from, but I am not going to put any conditions on trades. I don't forsee any collusion, but in the unlikely event a player is traded back to a team, I will apply even greater scrutiny to the trade. Thanks. Anyone else with feedback, please let me know.

We still have 2 spots open if anybody is interested. As soon as they are filled, I will conduct the draft lottery.

I draft 5th.

LJ, LT & Shaun Alexander should all be gone.
At #4 is prob going to be Peyton.
So, I'm going to either get a top rated WR or a top 4 RB.
The least likely scenarios are that Peyton is still there @ #5 OR that one of the top 3 mentioned is still there.

Hmmmm, whom should I take???????

If DM sprained something or worse (which I don't want to happen) & Reggie actually made training camp for at least the month of Aug then I'd have to really think about it.

Portis is in a Gibbs' run friendly O & he's still young.

Tiki, well, he just keeps going and going and going...

SJackson, Rams now going to a diff type of O that is supposed to be 50%-50% run/pass & no Faulk so...

Rudi Johnson (CIN might lean on a little more) or Ronnie Brown (no Ricky).

Steve Smith(CAR), Marvin Harrison(IND) and TO might be worth a look.

Hey guys (and Katy), this is still going down on Sunday right? How many of you guys plan on attending. Cause, if someone isn't going to be in it, I have a friend or two that would probably be willing to play with us. What time sunday, and where?

I repasted the time and date above. Everyone must attend. I already received 100% confirmations, but I will remind those that have a hard time keeping their commitments.

That said, I would still say there is a 20% chance someone goes AWOL. Obviously, there is now a spot open but I am going to give Steve (King) first chance at it because I asked him to play before and had to put someone in his spot because they could 100% commit and he couldn't yet.

If Steve doesn't get back to me shortly, I will allot 1 spot to your friend if you are 100% sure they can make it.

Everyone must also pay at the draft. It's only $25, but if I don't get it, I will end up having to track people down or wait weeks/months to get it. So to everyone, don't come to the draft without your cash. On that note, I don't accept checks or other "negotiable instruments" other than cash.

So to answer your question Matthew, if King does not accept the spot, then there will be one spot for one of your friends. They may want to come as a standby anyways if someone doesn't show up, but that's up to them.

Guys, I will not be providing anything but a roster fill in sheet. Bring whatever is necessary for you to draft.

This Sunday at 7:30 - Lion and Rose Pub - do not forget. I will need $25 cash from all participants at the draft.

These are the owners of the league in draft order:

1 - matthew's friend
2 - lj
3 - kris
4 - noel
5 - dio
6 - joe
7 - whitney
8 - harry
9 - perry
10 - eriks
11 - matthew
12 - katy

Also, here are the rules and parameters for our league.

Buy-in will be $25. Fees must be paid at the draft. There will be 100% payout.

Prize Structure will be as follows:

Trade Deadline is November 17.
The waiver wire limit is 25.
There is a 1 day waiver wire time restriction.
There will be no bonus points awarded for milestones reached. (I thought about this one and while it is a cool feature to have, I think the players will accumlate enough points if they reach 200 yards rushing, etc.)
Trades will go through instantaneously. As commissioner, I will decide if a trade is so one-sided, that it is void. There will be no vote. The only votes to be considered will be in the event I make a trade. For a trade I am involved in to be overturned, 7 league owners will need to veto it. You may veto a trade by emailing me or posting on the league home page.

In the event of a veto, by myself or other league member, some form of logical reasoning must be given. For example, you cannot veto simply because I acquire Cadillac Williams and Tampa Bay plays Houston the week I play you. Likewise, I will provide a thorough explanation in the event that any trade(s) are rejected.

One point of emphasis I must bring across to all owners that you must be competitive in the management of your team. This means you must show that you are active with your team and not starting players on their bye weeks. It is unfair to the rest of the league, if you as an owner are not looking out for the best interest of your team. If I find that you have abandoned your team or are simply too lazy to manage it by yourself, I will warn you the first week. After the first week, I reserve the right to control your team so as to make it actively managed.

All other disputes, questions, and complaints will also be arbitrated by me.

I encourage all league owners to examine all league settings and rules on the Yahoo league homepage before the draft. If you have any concerns, please do let me know. Once the draft has been conducted, I'm almost certain I will not change any of the rules/points.

Give me 45 minutes and I'll have it reset. I'm still at Whitney's right now. Also, be sure to have your dad sign in. If he has difficulties pm me.

Great draft to everybody. I had a lot of fun. I will post pictures when I get home.

Well guys, I had a lot of fun last night. It went suprisingly smooth last night, considering it was our first time as a group drafting live together. The first round went by quick as hell, and caught me a little by suprise. Damn you guys for researching and knowing who you wanted ahead of time.

Just to let you all know, I am a little on the unhappy side with some of positions and would be willing to talk trade.

My Roster
Steve Mcnair, David Carr
Rudi Johnson, Kevin Jones, Joseph Addai, Chris Perry, Brandon Jacobs
TO, Darrell Jackson, Deion Branch, Drew Bennett, Troy Williamson, Charles Rogers
Vernon Davis, Dallas Clark
Adam Vinatieri
Chicago Bears

The league is now in season mode. You can begin managing your teams.

Now that the dust has cleared from the draft, here is survey the magazines usually do after the draft.

What was your best pick?

Who is the cornerstone of your franchise?

What was your most regrettable pick?

Who, if anyone, did you feel compelled to take in the draft?

Who almost fell to you but got stolen?

What player of yours drafted after the fifth round is most likely to have 1st or 2nd round value?

Who is your favorite player on your team?

Who do you feel made the best pick in the entire draft?

Do you feel like you have one rival team in particular? If so, who?

Thanks for coming everone. I'm glad you are all in this league and the draft was a lot of fun.

Start your engines.

kris

What was your best pick?

My best pick may be Julius Jones in the 4th. He's normally a late 2nd rounder and I think the Dallas offense is improved with T.O. Hopefully he doesn't get injured and Dio cashes in on MBIII.

Who is the cornerstone of your franchise?

Ladanian.

What was your most regrettable pick?

I think Isaac Bruce in the 10th. That was a little early for his ADP and I basically needed to take him because there was a huge WR run and I didn't have a third starter. He killed me last year, but hopefully he stays healthy this year.

Who, if anyone, did you feel compelled to take in the draft?

Willie Parker. I wouldn't call myself a FWP fan, but in the fifth round, you have got to be kidding me. Had to draft him.

Who almost fell to you but got stolen?

Many, many aplayers. I think Whitney stole Corey Dillon and Eddie Kennison right in front of my face.

What player of yours drafted after the fifth round is most likely to have 1st or 2nd round value?

It's got to be Cedric Benson. He's the front runner to start for Chicago and he could have a nice year with their line.

Who is your favorite player on your team?

I really like Anquan Boldin and Michael Turner just for no reason in particular.

Who do you feel made the best pick in the entire draft?

Whitney getting Dillon in the 6th round is unreal. But also Katy deceptively stole Mark Clayton in the fourteenth. I missed him.

Do you feel like you have one rival team in particular? If so, who?

Yes, LJ. LJ will always be my rival. He taught me fantasy football.

Johnny_Blaze_47
08-07-2006, 03:41 PM
What was your best pick?
I would say Chris Chambers in the fourth round. I think Daunte Culpepper has a great comeback year and I really wanted him to be my surprise QB pickup.

Who is the cornerstone of your franchise?
It's got to be Tiki Barber. I didn't think he'd have such a good season last year, but I was very wrong. While I would have been okay taking Edgerrin James at the #6 pick, I was very happy Tiki was there.

What was your most regrettable pick?
I hope it's not Ahman Green so high up in the draft (8th round).

Who, if anyone, did you feel compelled to take in the draft?
Ahman. I always seem to go WR heavy and have to take a RB that I don't really want too early.

Who almost fell to you but got stolen?
I would say Daunte. I went back and forth over taking him, and while I wouldn't have really taken him in the round he went in, he was a solid pick for me two rounds later.

What player of yours drafted after the fifth round is most likely to have 1st or 2nd round value?
Either Koren Robinson (9) or Mushin Muhammad (10). They might be the beneficiary of better running games for their teams this season.

Who is your favorite player on your team?
Tie. Marvin Harrison and Drew Brees.

Who do you feel made the best pick in the entire draft?
Without seeing the draft order, it's kind of a tough call.

Do you feel like you have one rival team in particular? If so, who?
None in particular, but I always like playing against LJ and Kris.

Considering this is only my second year, I'm still a novice when it comes to FF, but I'll give it a shot.

What was your best pick?

I think Eli was a good pick in the 3rd round.

Who is the cornerstone of your franchise?

What was your most regrettable pick?

I want to say Tom Brady. That first round went pretty quickly and I just wasn't expecting that.

Who, if anyone, did you feel compelled to take in the draft?

Vince Young. It was the obligatory homer pick, but I actually think he'll have a better season than some of the other QB's taken in that late round.

Who almost fell to you but got stolen?

I was eyeballing Carolina's D, but settled for Indy. which I actually won one of my leagues with last season, so it's not that big of a loss.

What player of yours drafted after the fifth round is most likely to have 1st or 2nd round value?

I don't know, maybe Terry Glenn due to the coverage TO will be getting. His numbers really jumped playing with Keyshawn so we'll see.

Who is your favorite player on your team?

Vince of course. He'll definitely be my favorite if he has a great year considering he was a 7th round pick.

Who do you feel made the best pick in the entire draft?

It's an obvious pick, but I keep reading great things about Portis this year.

Do you feel like you have one rival team in particular? If so, who?

I can't say.

The league is now in season mode. You can begin managing your teams.

Now that the dust has cleared from the draft, here is survey the magazines usually do after the draft.

What was your best pick? Probably Rudi Johnson in the 2nd round. I thought for sure he was a middle first round pick.

Who is the cornerstone of your franchise? Living and Dying by TO

What was your most regrettable pick? The only real reach was Charles Rogers IMO.

Who, if anyone, did you feel compelled to take in the draft? None

Who almost fell to you but got stolen? Domanick Davis in the 3rd RD.

What player of yours drafted after the fifth round is most likely to have 1st or 2nd round value? Deion Branch if he ever gets to camp.

Who is your favorite player on your team? Darrell Jackson

Who do you feel made the best pick in the entire draft? Don't know

Do you feel like you have one rival team in particular? If so, who? My dad, cause I hate losing to him...

Thanks for coming everone. I'm glad you are all in this league and the draft was a lot of fun.

Start your engines.

What was your best pick?
Hopefully Westbrook late in the 2nd. I was planning on taking a WR there but Westbrook fell to me.

Who is the cornerstone of your franchise?
Shaun Alexander. Hopefully he still tries now that he has his contract.

What was your most regrettable pick?
Probably Lee Evans in the 6th. That's where he goes in most drafts but I'm not his biggest fan.

Who, if anyone, did you feel compelled to take in the draft?
DeShaun Foster in the 5th. The couple weeks he's healthy he should be good.

Who almost fell to you but got stolen?
TJ Duckett in the 16th would have been nice.

What player of yours drafted after the fifth round is most likely to have 1st or 2nd round value?
You would think that Seattle signed Burleson to that monster contract for a reason.

Who is your favorite player on your team?
Rod Smith. Not that he's going to be that great but he's been a cornerstone on my teams for a long time.

Who do you feel made the best pick in the entire draft?
A lot of RBs fell. McAllister and Dillon especially fell. If they can stay healthy, they'll be huge steals.

Do you feel like you have one rival team in particular? If so, who?
I have to make sure Whitney doesn't win on her first time. Can't let down the male gender by having a female pick up the game and start dominating fantasy football right off the bat. :)

I drafted differently in this draft than I have ever drafted before. I decided to forget about injury history and pick for the most potential. I think it could come back to bite me in the butt if TO and Darrell Jackson can't stay healthy, but if they do, I have a very solid 1/2 receiving duo.

kris

When you're in a 250 league, I agree with you. I see the $25 league as a way to try project draft strategies and take risks. I did have to pick a little more standardly than I originally thought though. Half of my team wasn't even on my draft que.

Mr Dio
08-07-2006, 05:21 PM
What was your best pick?
Reggie Brown or Peyton.

Who is the cornerstone of your franchise?
Peyton.

What was your most regrettable pick?
Matt Leinart, if Kurt Warner goes down what good is a rook QB who missed a big part of camp, tends to throw wounded ducks & doesn't have wheels?

Who, if anyone, did you feel compelled to take in the draft?
Peyton, most likely a top 5 point scorer & arguably top QB without a 100% proven every down back might be throwing like he did 2yrs ago.

Who almost fell to you but got stolen?
Let's see, Joe picked about 3 players JUST BEFORE I was going to. The pick JUST BEFORE.

What player of yours drafted after the fifth round is most likely to have 1st or 2nd round value?
Hopefully WR-Brown or RB-Barber.

Who is your favorite player on your team?
I think Peyton will get me the most points if that is what you're asking.

Who do you feel made the best pick in the entire draft?
Unsure, I've only looked @ mine except for a few minutes last night.
Maybe me? I don't know 'bout everyone else but I feel good about getting the #1 WR (I say #1 lightly) of Philly towards the end of round #10. This is esp. good because Andy Reid does like to throw the ball.

Do you feel like you have one rival team in particular?
Not really, not until W-L records start shaping up.

What was your best pick? Probably Corey Dillon in the 6th.

Who is the cornerstone of your franchise? I don't consider any one person the cornerstone per say, but Larry Fitzgerald is a top player on my team.

What was your most regrettable pick? Todd Heap in the 5th was too early. With Gates already gone and Shockey picked a little ahead of me in the 5th I reacted a little too hastily.

Who, if anyone, did you feel compelled to take in the draft? Billy Volek in the 15th.

Who almost fell to you but got stolen? Tiki Barber went right in front of me. Antonio Gates went at the end of the round before I was targeting him. Jeremy Shockey went 2 picks ahead or me.

What player of yours drafted after the fifth round is most likely to have 1st or 2nd round value? Corey Dillon or Braylon Edwards.

Who is your favorite player on your team? I really like Braylon Edwards.

Who do you feel made the best pick in the entire draft? It's hard to say who made the best pick, but one really good pick that comes to mind is Deuce McAllister in the 9th. I totally thought he had already been picked!

Do you feel like you have one rival team in particular? If so, who? No.

What was your best pick? 8.5 T Jones or 15.8 A Lelie. Lelei will end up somewhere and will be a solid WR

Who is the cornerstone of your franchise? Ronnie Brown. Picked Number one so better be teh cornerstone of the franchise

What was your most regrettable pick? My Qb's waited to damn long

Who, if anyone, did you feel compelled to take in the draft?

Who almost fell to you but got stolen? D McNabb.. still hurts Damn you PurplePeopleEaters

What player of yours drafted after the fifth round is most likely to have 1st or 2nd round value? Thomas Jones.. easy the Bears starting running back. With Benson taking off Training camp...again..Should mean that T Jones is transfered to the starter just like last year.

Who is your favorite player on your team? Andre Johnson. I think he is a Chad Johnson type WR and with Kubiak running Denver South (Houston) he will show that he is a great WR.

Who do you feel made the best pick in the entire draft? Humdrummurr D. McAllister with the 3rd down back In Bush getting the hype Duece will show that he is once again 1st round talent.

Do you feel like you have one rival team in particular? If so, who? Perry.. We have to close of a name and it bothered me having Perry and Harry back to back in the draft :blah Every one wants to know who is the best airy... :clap

Rudi Johnson is available for the right WR/QB combo.
