While reading the speculative thread on the blockbuster deal, someone raised Josh Childress's name and I always thought he'd be a good addition to the Spurs. I'm not sure how we'd get him, but I did a little more research (google) and he's got some interesting stats.

He's a long SG with a pretty good PER rating on a lousy team. He also has a few coincidental Spurs connections.

In 2006, he shot 55% FG, 49% 3P, 76% FT, and his true shooting percentage is 62.6% which is third in the NBA behind Steve Nash. I think he can be the 3pt shooter Bowen is but have more attacking options.

His overall effect on the team can be measured by his PER of 15.8, which is higher than Bowen's 9.1, Barry's 14.9, and Finley's 12.7.

Also, the player at age 21 he was most similar to was Sean Elliott. At age 22, Andre Iguodala.

And since he seems to be getting less praise and more money than Josh Smith, who was selected after Childress in the 2004 draft, he may be available.

Another similarity to Bowen: he was suspended for 2 games for throwing an elbow at Andres Nocione's head last year. I'm sure he can kick Ray Allen too.

That aside, everyone seems to think he's a stand-up guy.

I've always been a big fan of Josh Childress. If not mostly for his hair.
