our five guys almost barely beat the mavericks 12 while the refs helped out Dallas
our five guys spanked the champs twice in the reg season.
our five guys are pissed off for getting robbed of a fourth title.
our five guys know what other kinds of players they need to make next season work.
our five guys dominated the rest of the league with bad feet, hips, and ankles.
this year our five guys will be healthy, hungry and pissed so what do you think they're gonna do? oh yeah and we do have this guy named robert horry on our team as well and i do believed he vowed to come back in his best shape and when he gets pissed i think you know what happens.

This a good point. I keep forgetting this. We're all crying about losing Nazr and Rasho and keep forgetting we did get someone instead - Matt Bonner. I don't know much about the kid but he seems to fill a need that we lacked, the ability to spread the floor and not give up rebounds when we need to go small ball.

We almost defeated the Mavs, and Rasho and Nazr didn't play AT ALL. Our core last year didn't really included either of them, with Rasho really only being valuable to defend against Shaq, who is declining and who we only have to face 2 times a year, unless they make it back to the finals.

Our core consisted of: Duncan, Parker, Manu, Horry, Barry, Finley, and Bowen. The 8th spot in the rotation was never solid. All 7 of those guys are likely back, plus we have a new back up PG (Vaughn), and a couple decent center one way or the other (Bonner, plus either Elson or Butler, or both) but will have more flexiblity than we had with Rasho's contract. That's 10 or 11 players strong. Plus, we have Marks, Udrih, and Oberto, all of whom have shown flashes of potential, and who may get more minutes at times. Suddenly we're 13-14 strong.

I think we're in better shape than I realized. Everyone else is jostling and changing, and so are we, but in more subtle, quiet ways. We're going to be OK. I believe in Pop. After 3 NBA championships, I'd think more people would.

Some good points...only problem is that your "core" is older than the Mavs and Suns....age will catchup with you.

Mr. Body

Failing to build the team up this summer means the task is that much harder next summer. The Big 3 might be good enough to contest the championship this year, but with Manu and Duncan moving through their primes, the task gets no easier. One of the results of a weakly comissioned offseason now is that next offseason starts that many more holes and gaps to fill.

We may lose Horry next year to retirement. Bowen and Finley are getting much older, Oberto and Barry will be coming very close to the end. If we do nothing to help these situations now, they'll be that much worse.

I'm gonna disagree. Had the spurs lost game 1 of the semis, they would of come back really fired up and even it up at home. Not taking anything away from the mavs in game 2, but I think the spurs kinda kicked back having taken game 1 and met an angry and very determined mavs team that night.

I love when people say that the team is "pissed" and how they vow to come back with a vengeance. And you would know this how? Just because you've got your Spurs foam finger out and are rampaging doesn't mean the players are doing the same thing. You know where they are right now? On a beach somewhere, hanging out.

I detect some "simple-mindedness" from the masses. You can't win a title with only 5 guys. Sure our key guys (Duncan, Parker, Ginobili) and core (Finley, Horry, Bowen) are solid, but the surrounding cast is questionable and unproven. Also, it's a long season. You have to consider the age factor (4 guys over 34 years), which can result in injuries.

The issue many of us keep bringing up is the lack of a young, developing, core of less expensive talent to surround the key guys.

ChumpDumper

Butler is about as young as we can get.

Trade Barry and sign one more young guy.

Presto.

I think we can say bye bye to Marks - I don't see the Spurs keeping him around next year. Also, there will probably never be an NBA team that goes 14 deep. We need about 10 to 12 deep for the regular season to keep guys fresh, but when the playoffs come around that goes down to about 8 deep (getting significant minutes in which to contribute). Those 8 have to get it done, and this year it was only 1 (TD) getting it done with limited help from gimpy TP and Manu as well as sporatic help from Finley.

What championship parade is that? Oh, and Horry is one of the best "doers" in the history of NBA post season play. He doesn't do it every year, but enough to have 6 more rings than the Mavs, and yes, 6 more parades, Skank.
