So I was wondering
If in 2010, what are the odds that 2 of these guys would end up on the same team?
More interesting would be is there a way to get all 3 on the same team?
1) Assume the cap goes up $3M/yr, as it did this year, so the cap in 2010 would be $65M
2) Assume the guys would be willing to take a less than max salary just to play with each other
3) They are all unrestricted free agents (which is my understanding)
I believe the Spurs will have some tradeable parts and expiring contracts, so we should be able to clear some cap room by then.
Under the salary cap, I think we could field a team like:
PG - Craig "the player formerly known as Speedy" Claxton (32 yo)
SG - Dwayne Wayde - $15M
SF - LeBron James - $15M
PF - Tim Duncan (34 yo)/Kevin Garnett (34 yo)- $5M [controversy]
C - Chris Bosh - $15M
That would leave $15M to pay Claxton (or any other PG) and 7 other players. Roughly $1.875M each.
Yeah it's far fetched, but within the realm of possibility. I believe the three main players are averaging $15M/year on the contracts right now.
I'd pay for season tickets then. Ahh, if wishes grew on trees.
