Reggie Bush showed why in the rosebowl he will be a bust. All season he played against slow pac10 defenses. Against Texas except for his 1 long TD run he was shut down. He is no where near a powerback like White is, bush relies on outjuking the opponent and in an NFL game he won't be the fastest guyon the field like he was against fresno state and the other crap defenses he played against.

True, but you also said he was going to have a horrible combine, and his NFL stock was going to fall.

And then he went out and ran a 3.7, benched 225 over a hundred times, kicked a 214yd FG, saved a baby, and cured cancer. So, all you've really done is assure that Reggie Bush will be in Canton by week 7, while LenDale White will be playing for Bon Jovi.

I've watched Bush since he was in high school. My little bro QB'd their high school allstar team and played with Bush for two years. Bush is a fucking stud. I don't predict he'll make a huge impact his first year, but he will have some exciting plays. Once he adjusts to the NFL in a few years, he will be an assest to any team he's on.

Holmes, didn't Bush have around 90 yards on 13 carries in that Bowl game? Take away his 40 yard TD run, that's still 50 yards on 12 carries. That's over 4 yards per...

Not sure how this shows his inability in reguards to the NFL, considering the defensive talent of Texas.

I think he'll be a better version of Warrick Dunn. Better able to break those 15 yard runs into 30 yarders... which will enable him to hit around 10-15 TD's a year.

You're correct in one area. His TD numbers will be limited, being that he's not a 15-yardline and in back.

Remember, however, I'm just counting his rushes out of the backfield. He's as able to catch for 100 yards in a game as rush for it. Same with TD's.

JMarkJohns
07-23-2006, 11:15 PM
OK, did my homework.

Bush ran for 82 yards on 13 carries, including a 26-yard TD run. OK, so minus that run, he's still got 56 yards on 12 carries for a 4.7 yards per carry average.

Plus he had the run which upped it to over 6 yards per and he chipped in a healthy 95 yards receiving.

Again, I think you're a little nuts. You can say he's not going to live up to the hype and likely be correct. You don't have to go to the entirely opposite end of the spectrum and call him a bust. There's absolutely nothing but opinion to back that up anyways.

He got ~25 of those receiving yards when USC was losing by 3, with 20 seconds to go, texas was playing a deep prevent coverage, with 1 linebacker, and bush got a short pass and ran for BS yardage. So his receiving stats was kinda misleading too.

OK, but still, 82 rush, 70 recieve and a touch vs. a very good, pro-style defense is hardly something to snear at.

Certainly shouldn't be the backbone of you "he'll be a bust" arguement.

You make some very good points, but you must remember that he was playing with a loaded offense. Yes Texas D was good,(despite all who think that they were vince + 21) but in the NFL he will be expected to carry the team, which he has never even come close to doing. On the saints, he will be a major part of a defensive gameplan, not just one of many incredible weapons. Brees won't be able to drop into a perfect pocket and pick which overwhelming talent to throw to. I think Reggie will be fine, but will not be even close to what people expect.

I think the Saints have a very good offense if Brees and McAllister return to form.

QB: Brees
WR: Horn, Stallworth
RB: Bush, McAllister

That's a hell of an offensive quintet.

Anyways, I'd agree... to an extent. Which is why I said a better Warrick Dunn. Basically a hybrid twixt Dunn and Stephen Jackson... 70/80 yards rushing on 20 carries, 40/50 yards receiving on 6/8 receptions and around 1.2/1.5 TD's per game.

Saints have always had a well above average offensive line. He has McAllister to do some dirty work and two vertical threats to stretch the field. I think he has many days and big plays ahead of him.

But yes... it's much to early to evoke Sayers or even Faulk comparisons.

johngateswhiteley
07-24-2006, 07:37 AM
where to begin....if you think Bush will not be awesome in the NFL your probably unable to recognize talent.

1. he never had to carry the USC team, yet sometimes did
2. t.u.'s entire defense was set to stop Bush and he still had a very good game
3. his speed, quickness, and vision will serve him very well in the NFL
4. though not big, his is not small and durability undervalued. plus he will probably gain 5-10 pounds

reggie bush never put up numbers like barry sanders and marshall faulk. he played against slow defenses that made him look better than he really is. even then he didn't put up the crazy numbers the great NFL pro backs have done in college. most of the time that translates to greatness in the NFL. reggie bush is gonna get his ass handed to him quickly.

USC did not need him to dominate like OSU and SDSU needed those backs too. you cannot even compare the players, thats a bad argument. just for fun:

barry sanders ypr: 6.8
marshall faulk ypr: less than 6
reggie bush ypr: 7.3 (8.9 his senior year)

faulk played against shitty competition in the WAC, including his game against Pacific (are you kidding me) where he ran for 386 yards.

Bush's best year: 1658 rushing, 383 receiving
Faulk's best year: 1630 rushing, 283 receiving
sanders's best year: 2628 rushing, 106 receiving

...now i can understand you comparing Barry to Bush, although Barry had many many more attempts rushing than Bush and that would of course cause his YPR to be lower than Bush's. in comparison, their last year ypr where 7.6 to 8.9 in favor of Bush. the level of competition between Sanders and Bush will go back and forth due to opinion. i state that Bush's was probably slightly more difficult. the only good teams in the big 8 those years where nebraska and oklahoma. while Bush went against Oregon, Cal, UCLA, Notre Dame, and t.u.. Faulk does not even enter the equation, imo. and while he was amazing...when comparing college years the WAC just sucked.

I don't get where people get off thinking he will be some Dante Hall type returnman. He averaged just 9.9 yp punt return and had the 1 big 80 yard highlight run, which without that his average drops to around 5.5. I know most of you only see the 20 second long ESPN RB highlight, but he isn't that great of a return man. Only averaged 17 yards on KR, which isn't that great.

He doesn't have near the moves of Barry Sanders or the power of a great power back. Texas shut him down except for 1 play, couldn't cut it against a fast defense.

What part? You really think he has the same moves as Barry Sanders? RB never out juked a Texas player, he did what he did all season against his the Crap10 defenses. He bounces to the outside and has to outrun the defense. Something he couldn't do.

What is with all you San Antonians being all his dick. I know alot of you are aggys seeing the lame TU and t-sips being thrown around(although I'm sure very few of you even know what it means). It's sad really how obbsessed with Texas y'all are.

umm, i went to USC...so you can stop right there. and no, he does not have the moves of barry sanders...he is not quite as quick. but he is much faster. barry was not a fast running back....just very quick.

and lets stop with all this crap about how Bush did not do anything against t.u.. there whole defense was set up to stop Bush and he still had a ton of yards rushing & receiving. since when is 84 yards rushing and 95 yards receiving!!!!!! a poor game. not to mention 105 KO return yards on 5 returns.

...this bullshit has got to stop. HE HAD A VERY GOOD GAME IN THE ROSE BOWL. and all this crap about well, umm, hmm, if you take away one of his runs, umm, he like, ran for less yards, ummm, yeah, see. :rolleyes

sorry shit for brains, thats not how games or stats work. if barry had a 80 yard td run in the first quarter and then 40 yards total thereafter, you don't say well if sanders did not have that 80 yard run in the first he hasn't done much. umm, OK. :rolleyes thats the stupidest fucking thing i have ever heard. its a media/sports analyst trap and it makes ZERO sense.

Lol, now we have idiot USC fans saying "TU", sorry buddy come up with your own lame "insults".

He did not have a very good game, and yes I will say again, take away his 37 yard reception when the Texas D was 50 yards back and he only has 58 yards receiving. And yes, if Barry Sanders had an 90 yard run in the first quarter, then only had 30 after. I would say he didn't do much, because he didn't.

I'm sorry the Texas defense was setup to stop him, which they did; and the USC defense was set up to stop Vince Young, which it didn't.

Speed won't cut it in the NFL, Bush is obviously not fast enough to be a great back relying just on speed. He will be facing linebackers with quicker feet than him and corners who run 4.2 40's.

Kind of sad to see USC fan never give any credit to Lendale White, this guy has a much brighter future if he stats out of trouble. He had 8 more TD's then Bush and kept USC in the game with his power game

There is a difference in making 10 big plays, and having one touchdown run

If Barry Sanders has runs of 40,23,54,10,6,19 that is a good game. One 80 yard run and 40 yards total after isn't like I said before.

Bush had one touchdown, and was shut down the rest of the game and had the most bonehead play of the year. He couldn't bounce to the outside against a fast defense like he was againt pac10 teams all season. He in now way had a pretty good game.

JMarkJohns
07-24-2006, 11:01 PM
I remember everybody saying Portis would never be able to consistantly bounce to the outside as well. That turned out to be false.

You are more than likely correct in saying Bush won't live up to billing. Hardly anyone ever does. But to say he's a bust because in 10 carries he manged just 50 yards is absurd. He'll always be able to bust one off for 20-40 yards. The part I'm not sure I get is how his lesser average of over 4 yards per makes him bust material? OK, factoring out his one big run and one big reception, he still had around 120 total yards in roughly 15 total plays. Approximately 55 yards on 12 carries = 4.7 per carry. This, vs. the defense you're pimping, makes him bust material?

Explain? Beyond he won't be able to bounce outside, please...

thats true, but the 40 is a measure of quickness not speed. and i can recall so many times Barry was walked down from behind....but that was after he just made it to the end zone or ripped off about 40-60 yards. i love Barry, he may be the best runner of all time....but he was not that fast, by nfl standards.

Just like in College, he is good for about 1 or 2 big plays a game. He got 100 yards on 2 plays and was shut down the rest of the game, just like the Rose Bowl.

You swear he actually getting 13 years every time he touches the ball. When in reality it's more like 4,2,3,-2,5, 60, 4,1,1.

So what? He's a big play threat. If one or two of those big plays go for a TD or a huge huge gain, then I'd say he's a damn good weapon. Is he an every down 4.7 ypc guy? No. Does he need to be? No.

...i think there is a lot of truth in that. but, at the end of the year Bush started to do a good job running the ball 6.3, 6.7, 4.3, & 4.8 yards per carry in his last 4 games. but its hard to say if he will be an every down back, cause Payton may never use him as such. imo, he can be...

Payton did do a great job of taking what the defense gave him. some games Bush has a bunch of rushing yards and some games he has a bunch of receiving yards.
