Spurs payroll
2006/07 $61,036,696 eric+bonner+jv expiring
2007/08 $53,376,557 BRUCE+BENO team options
2008/09 $31,653,703 td+tp+gino only contracts left on payroll
2009/10 $45,508,218 gino expires, tp still on payroll, td has player option
2010/11 $13,500,000 tp only left on payroll
Darius Miles
2006/07 $7,750,000
2007/08 $8,250,000
2008/09 $9,000,000
2009/10 $9,000,000
wonder if the spurs would do this deal, trade barry+orberto+eric for miles, or maybe throw in a 2nd round pick. miles can be bowens replacement, would holt absorb his contract...it also runs out during the spurs big 3 expires. His contrat seems very reasonable though....

Miles would destroy this team. He'd be like getting termites.

You must have a pretty high opinion of Miles. A lot of people don't, myself included.

Um, no.
He is THE ULTIMATE CANCER. He could even destroy the Spurs' chemistry, that's how bad he is.
You have to read this interview with him at the end of the season (link courtesy of JR from Pittsburg in a Bill SImmons chat):

(note - you have to scroll down a bit to find the interview, but it is well worthwhile... high on the unintentional comedy factor)
Miles is a seriously delusional man.

I think Miles would be a great addition "if" he played within the system. Lets face it, the guy is a matchup nightmare for teams defensively. Yeah, I'd take that chance:)
Edit: I read the interview. My opinion hasn't changed. Honestly, how would you expect anyone on that team to be positive? The guy is WAY to young to have that much pressure on him, and it showed. Sure, he says some childish things, but then again, he says some truthful things as well. I'm not saying the guy is the most mature player out there, but playing for the Spurs vs. playing for the Jailblazers is like night and day. Keep in mind that he wouldn't have the pressure of being the man on the Spurs team either.

Wasn't that the knock on Sheed 4 years ago? Funny how winning makes a man more content.

Read the interview then talk to me. I thought the same before I read that interview.
He is a 12yo boy with a mental illness in a wet-dream long-SF body.
READ THE INTERVIEW.
I wouldn't touch him with a barge-pole... hell, he makes QWoods look like a registered psychiatrist.

Lets face it, the guy is a matchup nightmare for teams defensively. Don't you have to have better than a 10.6 ppg career average to be considered a nightmare defensive matchup?

I can't wait until he's out of Portland...but just not to the Spurs. Holt and Popp aren't even looking in his direction any way.

I like the player, he can be a good gamble but a $34M/ 4 years gamble is way too much for Spurs.

Exactly. Many spur fans wanted no part of Rasheed Wallce when he was available. Wouldn't he look good next to Duncan now instead of the srubs they are targeting.
By the way Miles doesn't have a very good outside game. Probably not worth getting but not because of any character issues more on ability.
The spurs should have gone for Caron Butler when he was available twice.
Its the deals the spurs never pull off or the inability to target and get a good player when they are available through trade that the Spurs always strike out with.

A '6"9 guy that can play SF/G playing with a TD, Parker and Manu? Yes
Remember that those 10.6 are done with an average of only 27 min a game career. The guy also rebounds at a nice clip...5.2 per gm over the same 27 min.
It isn't going to happen anyway, but yeah, I'd take him. The core character of this team is great enough to overshadow any attitude brought by one player (GRob, NVE) like Miles, besides, he would be in BB heaven leaving the Blazers to come to the Spurs...but like I said, it isn't going to happen so...

It seems like you can take on a big contract or a bad character issue, but not both at the same time. Portland for a while excelled at creating them. The risk is way too high.

He's a career 16.8% 3 point shooter including 20% last year. Lay off him and give him the jumper. Nightmare solved.

I would like for our Spurs players to have an IQ above 70 and a literacy level greater than an infant's. This guy is American born and bred, and yet is harder to understand than TP, Rasho, Beno, Dirk, Pau, and many other players who didn't even begin to learn English until recently. I like athletic ability, but I also REALLY like intelligence. Besides, he comes across as being just damn lazy.

TO may be a dick, but he's a very intelligent person. You can tell when he speaks, the guy isn't an idiot. Darius Miles is a dick and an idiot. Bad comparison.

I have always been a have of this guy. Because of the athletic ability, size, and potential. However, he hasn't proved me right. He seems to be content with his career at this point, which is a disappointment. He can be so much more.

The guy is a stupid ass. He shows up to practices smelling of liquor and can't understand why that is unacceptable. Stated that as long as he is not drunk it should be ok.

Well, yes, except that Sheed is on 10mil a year so how you afford it I don't know. Also, Sheed has anger managment issues, Miles is a child in a man's body - big difference. BTW, did you bother to read the interview? If not, you should.
Miles has peaked. He will never be a star because he has no idea of what "responsibility" or "team first" means. He doesn't make the players around him better, and his game has holes like no outside. His defence is also sketchy.
No way would I waste my time on this guy.
