Melzer is an SF who used to be a PF. Smith is a PF who probably can't become an SF.

Coach Bud said Melzer fills the bill of someone with size who can play the 3, something the Spurs have been looking for..for some time now.

Yeah and more importantly for the Spurs...he doesn't cost anything

Coach Bud also said that the most important thing for the proper development of a young player like Ian is playing time. That's why playing for Pau Orthez, the top Pro team in France, will be good for Ian.

Bud said Ian would likely play for Pau this season and then be added to the Spurs roster next year (not verbatim but what I remember).

I thought there was a chance Ian could play here next year, but reading that he really weighs 210 put that one to rest.

I don't know what it is, but recent pictures of him must be digitally enhanced if his weight is really 210 lbs.

So the Smith in question is Jamar, not Donta, yes?

More than likely - Donta really isn't getting much time. I like Jamar and Andre Brown for that matter, there's just no room for them.

I expect Jamar to be the starting PF for the Toros in November, and he'll probably get a 10-day at some point.
