Don't know. I have never thought that someone I just broke up with was the best thing ever to happen to me, because they never have been (the best thing to ever happen to me).

That's what I always do. If they were "the best thing to ever happen to me", I wouldn't have had to kick their sorry ass out. Of course, I've probably been on the opposite side of most breakups from where you are now.
