Spurs are playing Mavs again right now (started at 6pm) at RMR. I'll try to get some Mahinmi updates.

Shouldn't we be focusing on Melzer, Sanders, and Watson since they have the best chance at being on the team? Ian HAS to stay in Europe for at least a year.

You can focus on whoever you want. :lol

I think Melzer, Sanders and Jamar Smith will be in camp. I haven't heard that Watson will.

Why would Watson have a chance?

I was hoping they spurs would give Donta Smith a bigger look but it looks like they are focused on Melzer, which is cool whatever fits in with the team concept better

I've heard Donta has just sucked at practice and in gametime.

In the first score I posted, the Mavs could have been leading. It was a vague text message.

I'll get the scoop on the phone in a few minutes.

Nice line on Melzer even if it is against summer league talent. I like guys who fill up a lot of boxscore columns - shows they are well rounded.

And that, ladies and germs, is why Ian will be heading back overseas for at LEAST another year. Dude has got to learn how to play the American game and not get so friggin' frustrated that he picks up so many cheap/stupid fouls.

Yeah, the coaching staff went off on the guards for not getting him/Swift/Sene the ball in the last two games. So yesterday they picked up Miles.

Why don't I hear anything about Andre Brown making the team?

I've been watching the boxscores, and along with the Saunders and Meltzer guy, he's been quite consistent.

Is it because he's a bigman? Heh... how would he compare to Eric williams and Elson?

We are overloaded with power forwards, that's why.

He might make training camp, but there's no room for him or Jamar unless we trade some guys away.

I would keep all the bigs under contract to start (unless interesting trade bundle of oberto or other with barry or williams)

1) you make Oberto, bonner, butler and elson fight over playing time
2) you keep Jamar or/and Andre in Austin where you can still have an eye on them (ChumpDumper seemed to say it was quite possible)
3) Comes the trade deadline, the Big that fall out of the rotation is out and you bring on one of jamar or andre from the Dleague

sounds reasonable?

Might I add that the most likely to go is Oberto? problem is we need is experience to start the season but come trade deadline, he will be expandable

Spurs usually keep six bigs and Tim, Horry, Oberto, Elson, Butler and Bonner make 6, the only guys on the summer league that have a shot at making the team are Melvin, Melzer and maybe Donta Smith. Smith played more minutes in today's game then the first 3 games so maybe the spurs are looking his way a little more now that they know they have Elson and Butler.

that is why jav quickly signed
he did not want to have to fight for playing time

I think Ian needs to stay and go to the development league
he needs to adjust to american speed not euro spend

If 2 of Bonner, elson, butler can learn fast enough it will most likely be the undersized, jump like my young sister, Oberto on the inactive list sooner rather then later

Come to think of it, since they have the six bigs, plus ...

Barry
Bowen
Finley
Manu
Parker
Beno
Vaughn
Williams

I'm guessing Williams and Vaughn will be inactive. I guess the bigs are versatile enough that they are worth keep active.

I still think a trade is coming, but obviously we have to wait til' late August before we can do anything involving Williams.

Melzer is the project 3, and Jamar just sounds like a player (and an intriguing one at that).

I could also see them stashing both in the NBDL for the next year.

Kori Ellis
07-20-2006, 10:36 PM
Yeah I think a trade is coming too. Hopefully 2-for-1 (Barry/Williams for whatever) to create an extra roster space.

Aggie Hoopsfan
07-20-2006, 10:47 PM
I don't know why, but my gut tells me we will do what a lot of folks have been thinking the Spurs would for a long time and finally do a deal with Charlotte.

They need more players to even get to the roster minimum, they need could use some veteran experience, and have the cap room to absorb us sending them 2-3 players and only sending one back.

Jumaine Jones anyone?

Spurs16212
07-20-2006, 10:48 PM
Oh well.... There went that idea.... I don't think there is anything out there where you can get a player in the range of ten million for Barry and Williams. If anything maybe Troy Murphy but I don't think he is worth ten million a year like Golden State is paying him.

Spurs16212
07-20-2006, 10:49 PM
I like J. Jones... Bring him aboard.

Slinkyman
07-20-2006, 10:54 PM
Is it possible Jones goes unsigned for another month? I guess the spurs and cats could agree on the deal now and just wait until aug 21 to complete it, but Jones would be an great addition.
