Some of you all seem to know these centers really well. I have heard of them, but hardly have seen them play.

Please compare/contrast Butler and Elson. Please compare their strengths and their weaknesses. Also, please include their size/weight (realistic estimates please).

What do they bring to the table?

What rotations are they likely to be used with/ for?

Predictions on starting (both at the beginning of the season and as we progress towards the playoffs).

Thank you.

P.S. how do they compare to Rasho/Nazr? At least, they were not nearly as expensive!!! For the money we paid those other guys, we needed more production!!! And short term contracts (like the 08 thread)!!!

Elson - 7', 235-240, 30-years-old
Runs the floor well
Knocks down J's
Shoots mostly from outside
Not good hands
Slow to the ball
Decent rebounder
Some think he's too skinny

Butler - 6'10, 265, 21-years-old
Strong
Raw
Good hands
Shoots mostly from inside
Lazy on transition D
Decent rebounder
Some think he's too fat

I think Elson will start in the beginning of the year and Butler at the end.

If they catch on to the Spurs D, they can become more productive than Rasho+Nazr. They'll need work on the glass.

Since Butler is comparatively short for a center, does he have enough potential to be 'converted' into the long 3 the Spurs need? You didn't say if he's slow. He should be OK shooting wise since we have Chip :D

While waiting for that to happen, they could have Elson play that position temporarily since you said he shoots well from outside and is quick.

The Suns did move Diaw to a position where he was more productive, so it's not as if it would be the first time for a coach to attempt that.
