Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, the Sopranos, the Wire, Epitafios, Da Ali G Show, Oz, Deadwood, Life With Louie, Six Feet Under and even that douche Bill Maher make it all worth the 10 or 20 bucks (or whatever I'm paying a month) for HBO. Also, I really enjoyed watching Charlotte York because....well, she's hot.
Dane Cook's Tourgasm is a huge waste of time though.
CBS should be ashamed. They used to have Murder She Wrote, Major Dad, and Murphy Brown. What happened? :depressed

HBO's shows are by far the best. I miss it greatly, but TV on DVD is a great thing. I have watched the entire Sex And The City series and it fucking rules. And yeah, Charlotte is hot. :lol

hbo has some excellent programming, indeed. they set the bar high. showtime sucks ass.
my favorite regular cable programs are nip/tuck and my name is earl.
as for cbs-- isn't that the channel that shows cold case? that is a decent show. and the now cancelled american dreams was pretty good, too.

Oh man, Weeds and the L Word were trying waaaaaay too hard. I'm a huge Kevin Nealon fan too, so it was a shame to have to sit through Mary Louise Parker try to act like she would really get supplied by a couple of black people in the ghetto with some weed.

I like it a lot, but it might be slipping a little. The Sopranos has gone down hill a little the last 2 seasons, and the last 2 Curb Your Enthusiasm seasons have gone downhill also. I need to start watching 6 Feet Under and Deadwood, I heard they were great. I absolutely fucking hate Ali G, that dude couldn't make me laugh if I was tripping.
The show that I absolutely love that you didn't mention is HBO Real Sports, it is about the best television ever.
I recently got into Entourage, I now look forward to watching that show more than Curb. Great show, I watched the first 2 seasons and the begining of the 3rd in less than a week, now it sucks that I have to wait a week in between episodes.
Sopranos was the best show on television for years, but now Lost is the best show on televsion. It is the show that I can't wait to see the next, there is ton of anticipation between each episode.

The first 2 seasons of Deadwood are probably my favorite seasons from any show ever. I miss it this season, but will start downloading here shortly. Life With Louie shows too much male genitalia for my tastes.
Rescue Me is the best basic cable show by far. Denis Leary cracks me up.
You forgot HBO Championship Boxing baby, that Gatti fight was fun to watch....
And yes HBO is the shit, they have also made some pretty good original movies as well...
I wonder though, how much of an advantage do they have over the networks because they don't have the same limitations?

Is that pretty good? I've never watched it, but I would give anything with Dennis Leary a chance, he's hilarious and a very good actor. I'm always on the lookout for new TV series on DVD, can watch a couple of seasons in a real short period of time.
A great television series that I'm into is The Shield. I've seen all but the most recent season, which I think is season 5, waiting for that one to come out on DVD. So I haven't caught up enough to watch it on television yet, which is kind of a pain because I have to avoid seeing any spoilers when I flip through the channels.

My favorite show - though I've rarely seen it on TV - is the West Wing. I've seriously never seen a show that is so fantasticly written.

a show like deadwood could never work on basic TV, but good tv is good tv. Lost kicks ass, West Wing kicked ass. The only advantage that HBO has is that they are hiring better writers, and putting out the most original shows. How many fucking cop procedurals do we need.

For sure man. I was totally into it, until the creater got busted with drugs and was run off. The last season and a half with the election campaigns was good TV.

Sopranos was good. After season 4 it went in the crapper.

Yeah, you reallu have to savor every minute. Tonight's episode was great, and much like every other episode, it ends way too abruptly.

entourage is great, the abrupt endings to the episodes can get you. i watched seasons 1 and 2 in two weeks on dvd/xvid, i am caught up now and have to wait a week. i like the crime dramas, so cbs is my favorite non-cable network - i like CSI, numb3rs, and CSI: Miami. on another note, i can't stand denis leary. if bill hicks was still alive that dude wouldn't have a career, or he would still be stuck on the club circuit trying to imitate him.

The last season and a half with the election campaigns was good TV.I always thought they did a damn good job weaving interesting stories that you didn't fully understand right away but they came together well. We just got season six and we're almost done with that and it just keeps getting better.

Carnivale was by far the greatest show I ever saw in my lifetime. It was so fucking brilliant and one of the most original shows I have ever seen.
I loved every minute of it and plan on buying the two seasons on dvd. I still remember not missing an entire show every Sunday.

Dane Cook's Tourgasm is a huge waste of time though.
I'll take that as confirmation of my theory in my anti-Dane Cook thread.
:lol
Dude must have nekkid pics of someone high up in the entertainment biz pleasuring livestock in front of little kids or something. There are people selling the Excuse For News at stoplights that are more talented than Dane Cook. I get more laughs picking out socks at Wal-Mart.
Why HBO? WHY???

And as for Murder, She Wrote why did they never suspect the old broad? Everywhere she went, people died! THE OLD BROAD DID IT!!!

Just getting into Huff, its great so far.
Other than that, its CSI's and thats about it.

Let's not forget that HBO gave us the original funny news show: Not Necessarily The News (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085065/). John Stewart should hit his knees and thank HBO every night for his job.
That show ruled until it became all about the "Sniglets" segment.

Nobody likes "Penn & Teller: Bullshit!"?!
I'm not necessarily a P & T fan by any means, but that show is funny as hell the way they tear into topics like religion, PETA, profanity, alien abductions, Feng-Shui and hypnosis among other things.

Homer!
Actually, I agree ... well, The Wire and The Sopranos.
Life with Louie looks pretty good after the first 4 or 5 episodes. I just wish they did not limit themselves to 25 minutes per episode, but then again, it's part of their old school sitcom schtick, I assume. I get that Jerry character.

I'm not sold on Lucky Louie but I'll give it a couple more tries. All I've seen so far is the "cunt" episode.
I like the idea of lampooning the cheesy 80's style family sitcom, just not sure the execution is there yet.

Why are some people calling it Life with Louie instead of Lucky Louie? Are they giving it different names in different time zones or sumptin?
I agree, it has its moments. But it's basically a traditional sitcom with shock value, and I can see the shock values getting old quickly.

Anbody watch Extras or Big Love? Haven't seen either but I've heard that Extras is funny and Big Love is out there.
The Comeback with Lisa Kudrow was really funny, but I think it was a one season deal, too bad.
