yea, they may not get too far this year, but people still better not sleep on them. any team with Randy Moss cannot be overlooked. he is the most talented and dangerous single offensive weapon in the game today. he may have a history of taking plays off, and being lazy, but it doesnt mean you can overlook him. when he wants to, he can be the most unstoppable force in the league, and everyone knows it.

i dont recall the Vikings having much of a defense or running game, yet they were very dangerous, and were able to make the playoffs. and if you honestly think only double teams can consistently stop Moss, you clearly have no clue what you are talking about. and with him drawing double and triple teams, it will open up the passing game for guys like Jerry Porter, Ronald Curry, and Courtney Anderson, and the running game for Lamont Jordan, and Zach Crockett. i think because of Kerry Collins extreme incompetence, people forgot how dangerous Randy Moss really is. sure, Brooks doesnt have a great history of being a smart QB, but hes a hell of a lot better than Kerry Collins, and would have enough sense to know that he can just throw it deep to Moss, and Moss will take care of the rest. if Collins simply had bombed it deep to Moss, like Culpepper used to, the Raiders could have very easily been 8-8, maybe even better. there were several games that they really should have won last year, and could have even won easily, if collins wasnt such a dumbass.

still, they were one dimensional, were they not? they had no defense, and their offense was primarily passing, and was opened up greatly, due to the double and triple teams on Randy Moss, allowing other recievers to be able to get open easier.

agreed. we will have to see. but i think this team is a lot more talented than people think they are. add to it, they have a very good coach, that will make this team much more disciplined, than when it was under Norv Turner. if you watched the Raiders a lot last year, you would have seen there were several games that they just as easily could have won, as they did lose. like i said, they could have been 8-8, but dumb penalties and mistakes cost them several games. without collins in there to fuck stuff up, and with the discipline that Art Shell will instill in this team, they should be much improved, and i think have a very bright future. they have a lot of talent.

It says that Philly's first offense only played for one drive and that the Eagles' 3rd and 4th stringers aren't very good. I don't imagine that the Raiders are going to be facing teams 3rds and 4ths very often after the season starts -- that defense will be facing first offenses, though, and as first offensive groups go, the Eagles' wouldn't seem to be one of the best in the NFL.
Preseason games don't mean a damned thing in virtually any respect. But a very vanilla Eagles offense beat down the Raiders base defenses. Rob Ryan better have some gameplanning tricks up his sleeve, because his personnel isn't good enough to just line up and kick ass.

It says that without Mcnabb they suck. He and most of the statrting unit sat after their first drive. Preseason football is not about wins and losses, its about coaches evaluating their players and guys trying to make the squad. Oakland starting units looked like shit on both sides of the ball.

Actually in 98(Moss 1st season)The Vikes went 15 and 1 Robert Smith had 249 carries for 1187 yards and 6 td's. Leroy Hoard had 115 carries for 479 yards and 9 tds. They also had Cris Carter(78 rec 1011yrd 12 tds) In 99 they had similar numbers Carter let with 90 rec and 13tds that year. In 2000 Smith went for 1500 yds and Carter again led with 96 recs and Moss led with 15 tds. 01 they didnt have a consistent running game and Moss had over 100 reception after Carter left, But in 02 Mike Bennet had over 1200 yards rushing plush Culpepper had over 600 yards rushing. Those Viking teams were far from one dimensional on Offense and they had a very good O line unlike the raiders. Brooks will be running for his life all season long.

BUT, by sister was 3 years younger than I, I was at Incarnate Word getting my BA, but she was dating the QB at Judson in 1982. Judson lost to Beaumont-French in Semi-Finals that year, but all the guys wowed to take State in 83.
They did.
I left Clemens for Judson in 83. That State Champ of 83 was the best they ever won. Well maybe 2002 was the best kick ass ever. 7 seconds left and Coach Jetter called my play.
I've taught there for years. But, I did just transfer my kid to Clemens 2 days ago. She's going to be 1st clarinet in band her freshman year. Clemens only has 1500 kids vs 5000 at Judson. Too much shit going on there, you know what I mean? I'm a parent first and a teacher/coach second.

yea, i dont think Aaron Brooks sucks at all. I think he is one of the most talented QBs in the league. he just forces throws too often. i think he has a chance to really thrive with the Raiders. hopefully that line holds up for him. i think he has a chance to do some great thing with Oakland. maybe not playing for the Saints will help. nothing against them, i like the saints, but it just seems like everything always goes wrong for them. i really feel bad for the franchise. wasnt it a few years ago, that Kyle Turley ripped some guy's helmet off, which put them out of FG range in the last game of the year, and they ended up losing, and missing the playoffs because of that? then last year, with Hurricane Katrina and all those distractions... but they could be really good this year. they have a solid team, possibly the best offense in the NFL. it will be interesting.

Yeah, I always got scared about Jerrod taking hits. He was a skinney little kid. He did grow up to be a good size, though. His years at Baylor could have been better, but he did ok. I'm still very proud of him.
Dude, have you ever been on Baylor's football field? I have...several times including the 3 plays I called against Lewisville in 96 during the State Game. Was that it? Yeah, we were down 3 TDs, right before the half, so I stormed out of the stands to the sidelines and called 2 TD plays with an onside kick between to close the gap. It worked, too. 14 points in less than 3 minutes, using the same damned play 2 times in a row.
Anyway, I loved my time with Judson, calling plays at State games, coaching kids not to fumble for their remaining careers, in the hallway outside of our English class, and ....fuck....just being on the sidelines screaming advice.
Back to Baylor's field...............imagine a giant pillow-top mattress. That baby bounced like no other field I've ever been on. And I've been on them all. Texas Stadium sucks like you cannot believe.

Happiest years of my life. Things like that don't happen for a girl too often.how were you able to call plays and go onto the field? Was it just because you were faculty?

Aaron is a killer QB. He has one of the longest releases in the NFL. At some point in time, one must place coaches in line for/lack when recievers don't get to their marks. NOLA LOVED to blame AB or everything that fucked up. Seriously tho....guys who are supposed to catch a long-armed bomb have to do their jobs. Ah....hello.
His leadership skills have to be the biggest question, can he keep Moss from throwing a fit if he is not getting the ball. Its proven that he can throw with accuracy to his primary WR, see Joe Horn's #'s. The guy did get NO to the playoffs and had to deal with a pretty weak coaching staff. I dont think he alone is the answer for Oak, but he will give them a chance to win some games if he can be an effective leader.

yea, if he learns to bomb it deep to Moss, like culpepper used to, they will be fine. im sure hes smart enough to know that, unlike Kerry Collins. he just sucked.

are you kidding me? more inconsistent than Kerry Collins? i dont think that is humanly possible. AB is not a model of consistency obviously, but i dont think its possible to be any worse than Kerry Collins. Collins flat out sucks, and has no talent, other than a strong arm. AB at least is a very talented QB, but showed a lack of desicion making skills, which can make any QB look either great, or horrible, no matter how bad or good they really are.
and yea, their first team was owned, but the Eagles are a SB caliber team. no one is saying the Raiders are. i think the raiders are more dangerous than people are giving them credit, and has a lot of young talent and will be very good, maybe even SB caliber in the near future. but they need time.

I can't wait for the first Monday Night Football matchup between the Raiders and Chargers. Rivers will put your team to shame .
How right you are. Former OSU TE Marcellus Rivers will exploit the weak SD secondary that is keying on Moss and slip in for one 20+ and another short yardage score.

Everything looks good so far, but we'll need to see some time on the field Saturday. They are holed up in Jackson, Mississippi. It's not easy getting detaied info out of there since I'm in San Antonio. Most of my NOLA connects are gone right now. or I'd have a better report. with the exception of the first drive where tomlinson ran all over them, their defense played pretty good. they held a very good offensive team, with the best RB in the league to 13 points through 3, and gave up in the 4th. last year, the Chargers would have dropped 30 on them by the 4th. compared to last year, the defense is much improved. and if their offense could have gotten something going, and been able to control the clock, they could have played much better. considering all the circumstances, their defense played well.

you truly are the epitome of a dumbass. and i still stand by my earlier statement. they have some very talented and good young players. unfortunately, i really expected more of their o-line, but i was wrong about that. its hard for any team to be successful if their o-line sucks. a teams success is based on their o-line more than anything. if your o-line sucks, the team will not be successful. its unforunate that a talented team is going to have a bad season due to a poor o-line.

Yes I am a dumbass for the facts I have been stating. The broncos have been the raiders daddy since Shannahan took over and you have only won 13 games since the superbowl loss! You were probably out slashing tires and throwing glass bottles while you were rioting when that happened. A shitty o-line is one of many problems the Raiders have. Your owner, coach, chemistry, washed up has beens, rioting fans who think Star Wars exists in real life, dumbass wr by the name of Jerry Porter who thinks hes something special,a kicker who got caught with date rape pills, a crappy ass Defense that is especially fucking terrible against the run, being the most penalized team in the league etc etc . But hey like you said all that is the O-lines fault! :drunk :drunk
stretch
09-13-2006, 08:33 AM
yea, and it all starts with O-Line. if you cant give your QB time to pass, and RB holes to run, you will have a lot of 3 and outs. 3 and outs lead to a very tired, beat down defense, which leads to losing and loss of chemistry and a number of other problems. it all starts with the o-line.
dont get me wrong, there are other holes in this team, as there are in every team, but by far, the most glaring holes are the O-Line, and then Al Davis.

i dont think their front seven is the best in the league. its good, but not great. and they didnt really contain moss. its hard to get the ball when your QB is getting sacked every other play.
however, yea, i think the chargers could be quite good. however, i dont think they can beat the Patriots, Jaguars, Ravens, or Bengals. yea, IMO the Ravens have a better team than the Steelers. I think the steelers are vastly overrated. despite winning the superbowl, keep in mind that they were the last seed, and beat three teams that have known chokers for QBs (manning, plummer, hasselbeck). they also beat the bengals with no Carson Palmer. i think things would have gone quite a bit differently had Palmer not be hurt, or if they had ended up playing the Patriots.

yea. they had so many lucky breaks last year, it was ridiculous. i dont even think they should have been in the playoffs last year. i thought that the Chargers were a better team, but they had a much harder schedule. its ridiculous that a 15-1 team could have had such an easy schedule, while the Chargers schedule was murder. i say the steelers finish 3rd in their division this year.
