RIVER FALLS, Wis. | The Chiefs are moving ahead without Priest Holmes.
New Orleans has agreed to trade running back Michael Bennett to Kansas City, giving the Chiefs their much-needed backup to Larry Johnson. Bennett, a former first-round draft pick, was expected to arrive at training camp in River Falls later today.

The trade is contingent on Bennett passing a physical. Chiefs president Carl Peterson said the club exchanged a second-day draft choice in 2007 for him.

Bennett became expendable in New Orleans when the Saints signed Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush. He was garnering interest from a handful of teams, including St. Louis.

The Chiefs had an immediate need with the iffy future of Pro Bowl running back Priest Holmes. Holmes went down with a neck injury in late October and hasn’t been back.

Bennett, a Pro Bowler, had his best season in 2002, when he ran for 1,296 yards and averaged 5.1 yards a carry. But his numbers have tapered off since then, and he had only six starts last season and ran for 473 yards.

The Saints signed him to a two-year deal worth about $3 million in March.

Unfortunately, I don't see PH ever playing again.
