Apparently there were rumors that the other player involved was Peterson, but this has been proven not to be the case. Can you imagine losing your two best players before the season even started?

Wow, at least they are keeping their own shit clean. I would guess Thompson is the backup, but he was a WR most of last year. 8 wins here they come.

I tried to get over to Pinnacle because they had OU -25.5 and lay some on UAB but they already had it offline dammit.

Oklahoma starting quarterback Rhett Bomar will not play for the Sooners this season following an investigation by the team, ESPN's Doug Gottlieb and Joe Schad reported Wednesday.
Sophomore J.D. Quinn, who was expected to start at guard, was also dismissed.
Oklahoma said that two players had been dismissed by the team but did not identify them. The school said in a statement that the players violated NCAA rules by working at a private business and taking "payment over an extended period of time in excess of time actually worked."
Bomar had a job at a Norman, Okla., car dealer at which he'd work about five hours a week, but claimed, for tax purposes, that he earned $18,000 a year, Schad reported.
The car dealership in question is Big Red Sports/Imports in Norman, Okla., reports Mark Schlabach. When contacted by phone, the person answering referred requests to attorney Jeffrey Atkins of Oklahoma City. The dealership is part of the Sooner Schooner Car Program, which supplies vehicles to coaches and athletic department officials.
In April, Oklahoma cleared standout running back Adrian Peterson, who purchased a vehicle from the dealership before securing financing, drove it for several weeks and then returned the car. Oklahoma investigated the situation, but ruled Peterson did not violate rules because the dealership said it was normal business practice.
"We spend a considerable amount of time addressing our players regarding their personal conduct and the NCAA rules," head coach Bob Stoops said in a statement. "They know exactly what we expect from them. Ultimately, they have to make right decisions. The same holds true for our boosters. When they do not, the consequences are serious, and we will not tolerate this behavior.
"Our team and university actions are necessary because of the intentional participation and knowledge of the student athletes in these violations," Stoops said.
A top-rated recruit out of high school, Bomar redshirted his first season while 2004 Heisman Trophy winner Jason White completed his career. Bomar lost a quarterback competition to Paul Thompson last fall, but was named the starter after the Sooners lost to TCU in the first week.
Bomar set an Oklahoma freshman record with 2,018 passing yards. He started Oklahoma's final 11 games and completed 54 percent of his passes, while throwing 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Oklahoma finished 2005 by winning six of its final seven games, including a victory against Oregon in the Holiday Bowl.
Quinn, who was Bomar's roommate, started four times at right guard last season but missed spring practice with an injury.
"I firmly believe that our program is stronger than any individual player and that a championship program cannot compromise its values," Stoops said in the statement.
Thompson, the only quarterback other than Bomar with experience at Oklahoma, was moved to receiver after Bomar became the starter. A backup in 2002 and 2003, Thompson played in a reserve role until he beat out Bomar last fall.
In his career, Thompson has completed 42 of 73 passes for 428 yards. He caught 11 passes for 106 yards after moving to receiver last season.
Other options would be Joey Halzle, a junior transfer who passed for 2,077 yards and 13 touchdowns in 10 games last season at Golden West (Calif.) Community College, freshman Sam Bradford and walk-on Hays McEachern.
The Associated Press contributed to this report. Mark Schlabach covers college football and men's college basketball for ESPN.com. Joe Schad covers college football for ESPN.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson did not violate NCAA regulations by buying a car and returning it several weeks later, the school's compliance department has determined.
Peterson, the runner-up for the 2004 Heisman Trophy, secured a financing agreement and drove the car for several weeks last winter but then returned it, said Bonita Jackson, Peterson's mother.
"We were gonna purchase the car, but the payments were gonna be too high, so we took the car back," Jackson told The Oklahoman, which first reported the story Wednesday.
Oklahoma officials determined Peterson did not receive an extra benefit that is not available to the general student body.

This has had to be brewing for some time. Stoops signed a JUCO qb, Joey Halzle from Golden West CC where he threw for 2.077 yds & 13 TD's in 10 games. No way the kid signed on to be a back-up to Bomar for the next two years.

Only placekicker on the team, Garret Hartley also a former employee of Big Red Sports and Imports.....

Adrian Peterson also worked there for a time.

No doubt that they'll struggle to be a top 10 team this yr for sure.
IMO they looked a bit overrated as far as preseason rankings go but now with AP being the by far main focus of opposing D's ou's hopes for a BCS bowl may very well be dashed as well.
Mr Dio

Now we'll be able to see if AP can carry ou over UT in Oct.
I say he can't.
We'll see.
A W for UT that was written in lead can now be written in ink.
UT rolls.

Oh thats bullshit, NO dealership lets you "drive" a car around and then lets you give it back cause payments are to high. They'll fuck your credit up. Thats called abandonment of your contractual responsibility. :rolleyes

The dealership paid him 276/hr on their payroll? To be taxed? How stupid can you be... if you're gonna cheat by doing this shit, at least pay them under the table in untraceable cash. You can't have a college football star working 5 hours a week and pulling in near 20 grand on his income taxes. Someone is gonna notice.
As for Stoops - he's a great coach and a quality person. I commend him for making these swift actions, but he really had no choice. If he did nothing and let the NCAA investigate - the possibility of harsh punishment that could wreck the program for years would be pretty high.

If Peterson was seeing 8 in the box last year, he better get ready for more punishment this year. Loosing their only passing threat and a starting O lineman is going to make life hell for Peterson. How do you like turning down Texas now, boy? Traded in a National Championship for bad ankles, bad publicity, and a bulls-eye firmly on your chest. :lol

That's crazy. Just the fact that they put Bomar on the payroll for the IRS and all to see just goes to show how fucking stupid Sooners are. Even their fans and boosters are incredibly stupid. First K Sampson with the BBall team and now the great dumbasses of Norman Lexus - continuing the fine tradition of cheating at OU.

SI and the Tusla World actually picked up on the story from TexAgs. Turns out that uo actually found out about it around Jan/Feb and followed the employment of the individuals in question. They kept it under wraps until AFTER the basketball sanctions came down, and they released it themselves after finding out their penalties from the NCAA. If the NCAA would have completely accepted their 'self-imposed' penalties and levied no further, then they would not be technichally on NCAA probation.
Remember, if the NCAA finds something else while you are on an NCAA probation, the penalty is death for that sport. With their basketball team having received further NCAA penalties, they had to release the facts themselves to avoid losing football season.
The NCAA does have the option of reopeneing an investigation into the entire sports program, because of the fact that they cited: "lack of institutional supervision" over the basketball and gymnastics program. This will let them automatically reopen the case as this could fall under that arena.
