The player is a small foward is 25 years of age, is 6-9 210 lbs. and is one of the most prolific dunkers in the NBA. He makes 7.75-9 mil over the next three years. He averages 14 ppg, Shoots 47% from the field, 5 rpg and 1bpg. Under Pop's system and if he listened he could become a top defensive player and heir apparent to Bowen.

His current team will let the Spurs have him for any two of the three Eric Williams, Brent Barry or Fabrico Oberto.

Would you want him?

Oh, the player's name is Darius Miles.

He's already had two changes of scenery and he's still a knucklehead who dabbles in coach killing and half assing his way through the NBA.

I'd rather that the Spurs not be strike 3, particularly with the possibility that his contract will become a significant albatross.

Why not? Plus Portland=losing environment and Clevlend at the time=losing environment with bad coaching. Spurs=winning organization, serious title contenders, giving up 2 short term deals for a long 3 and its worth the risk. But I will wait till the 21st before thinking anything like this.

But is he worth the risk? He's got 4 years and like 35 million left on his contract, i'd rather have Sjax back.

I loved reading one of Miles' interviews, when he said he would come to practice drunk from time to time because his body would sweat it out anyways.....ha ha.

Classic.

He's talented and I don't think he's as much of a Trail Blazer er....scumbag as some of the other guys the Spurs have gone after..

But he makes way too much money for a guy with his issues.

He's not worth what he makes even if he didn't have issues.

Shitty contract, shitty attitude.

BTW, Bonzi is a MUCH better rebounder, and presents matchup problems that DMiles can't dream of. Even with that, I wouldn't want Bonzi, the better player, at what DMiles makes.

Why do posters ignore the PERSON inside the PLAYER!? The reason that many talented sportspeople don't make the most of their physical talent is their mind, and Miles is a perfect example of this. The whole "change of scene might reform him" way of thinking is DELUDING YOURSELF. Once people get to their 20s, their essential character does not change, and Miles is a wastrel.

Miles is THE ULTIMATE CANCER. He could even destroy the Spurs' chemistry, that's how bad he is. Remember when Rodman destroyed us in the playoffs with his attitude alone - Miles has the same destructive powers.

You have to read this interview with him at the end of the season (link courtesy of JR from Pittsburg in a Bill Simmons chat):

http://www.oregonlive.com/weblogs/b...es/2006_04.html

(note - you have to scroll down a bit to find the interview, but it is well worthwhile... high on the unintentional comedy factor)

Miles is a seriously delusional man.

Even for 3 scrubs, I wouldn't touch him with his mental illness and 35mil contract.

Ebi is more the "long three" that the Spurs are seeking, and if you are considering players with "issues", Woods is cheaper, a better shooter, and his issues have never been "team" issues like Miles.

RuffnReadyOzStyle

Woods could be another Jax - a reclaimation prospect who only has one strike against him thus far.

Miles has, what, 3 or 4? Write him off, he'll never be what he should have been.

The Bobcats are trying to decide between Melvin Ely and Walter Herrmann for their last roster spot. If they keep Ely, Herrmann either plays in Europe again or some other NBA team might get themselves a very talented, experienced SF with size. He's not that great of an outside shooter, but he plays with a measure of fire and desire on the court.

For what I read somewhere, Hermann to Bobcats is a lock. Jumaine Jones might be available after Hermann joins the team though.

Maybe JJ doesn't want to play with Charlotte next year or it's because Hermann is cheaper.

I guess I am just suprised. JJ is IMHO a pretty good player and while I like Herman, he is still untested in the NBA.

JJ is just inconsistent.

He seems to flourish a lot better in an uptempo system.

I don't know how well he would do in a half court system like ours.

He is an okay defender though.

If it was a lock, Herrmann would be signed by now. As I was saying, it appears the Bobcats are still trying to decide on the 15th slot. See link to support this:
http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/sports/15204465.htm

"Once Voskuhl signs, the Bobcats would have 14 players under contract, plus a qualifying offer to restricted free agent Melvin Ely.

With a maximum of 15 roster spots, the Bobcats must decide whether to offer a contract to Argentine forward Walter Hermann or leave that spot open for Ely or someone else.

Ely is also a possibility for a sign-and-trade deal that would acquire a draft pick or young player."

Good... either player might be useful, but I doubt the Spurs' FO does anything but standing pat.

Regarding Hermann, I cannot find the article, but I am 100% sure that I read that there was an oral agreement with Hermann and the Bobcats, the contract is drafted and it has the seal of approval of no other than Michael Jordan. The Bobcats are trying to get rid of a contract to sign Hermann, no further negotiations are needed.

Based on this, I speculated that JJ might be available... who knows?
