Man I bet the Spurs are kicking themselves for letting this kid go....He can ball. Instead they are stuck with the TO machine: Beno.

Nah but Im asking for real, why did the Spurs not hang on to him? Was it a salary issue, roster issue, or did they think he wasn't ready?

On that note, what happened between the Spurs and Alex Garcia, he can ball too.

They didn't let him go. The Spurs traded the draft pick prior to the selection being made. The Suns merely told the Spurs who to select.

The Spurs didn't want to commit first round money to anyone who was left at that point.

Alex Garcia has had a broken foot and blown out knee in consecutive seasons.

Id say hes not durable enough...

The Spurs traded his rights(mainly the pick) so they'd have money to sign Jason Kidd.

Thankfully it didn't! :lol

I love it how Garcia's misfortune translates to "not durable enough" in T Park's head. :oops

How exactly do you take action to prevent a broken foot and a knee reconstruction??? Those aren't injuries you can do anything about. The phrase "not durable enough" applies to players who don't play through injuries they otherwise could play through, not poor souls like Garcia!

Hell, "he's been unlucky" is a much better and fairer description.

He has played in little to no NBA Games.

He cannot stay healthy.

Therefore, so far, he isn not durable enough to play the game.

How do you take action against those injuries? You dont.

You could say that about alot of injuries.

He is injury prone, as was Willie Anderson and his damn legs.

Oh you took that as a jab to your team, not intended that way. Sorry dude.

Or Josh Howard. You could say that the 05-06 season was punishment for the Spurs for passing up all these trade and draft opportunities for a miniscule chance to land Kidd.

Speaking of legs, has anyone looked at the wheels on Ian Mahimi (Sp?)? He looks like a stork with those long thin legs. I wondered when I saw him if he had any history of injuries? I know people keep talking about him beefing up, but there are some physical characteristics that you are just born with--and skinny legs is one of them.

I don't know exactly what happened between them but there must have been some bad blood because Pop sent Manu out there to break Barbosa knee.

I wouldn't say Jordan had skinny legs but the Iceman did.

Camby and Keon Clark should prove a skinny big man can play in the NBA albeit injuries can be an issue.

FYI, Barbosa, who was not widely regarded in the draft that featured LeBron and Carmelo and a lesser unknown (Wade) with high profile PGs like TJ Ford and Hinrich and Ridnour, was traded to the Suns for their 2005 1st rounder. The idea was good - the Suns didn't seem to be going anywhere and the 2005 draft was projected to be much more robust than the 2004 one (which it was). No one could foresee the Suns getting Steve Nash and having the best record in the NBA. As a projected pick of around the same area as the Spurs would already have, it wasn't worth uch to us at that point, so we included it in the deal to NY with Malik and our 2006 1st rounder for Nazr.

Therefore you could say that we sent Barbosa to Phx, Malik and the 2006 1st round to NY and got the last piece of our 2005 Championship team - Nazr. Seems like an ok deal to me.

FYI, with those 2 picks, NY got Mardy Collins in 06 and David Lee in 05. Real game breakers, those 2.

That was a highly protected pick the Spurs got, protected to pick 20 or so.

considering the fact that the spurs have only 3 championships, I guess this was a bad move.

In other waords, the pick was ours unless it was in the Top 20, yes.

Matt Bonner went 45th in the same draft. Barbosa was a coin flip, but Howard would have been a solid pick at 28. I still can't believe he fell to Dallas at 29.

He'll never be crap as long as he is stuck in NY.
