Melvin Ely (PF-C) 6-10 and 261 lbs :9.8 Points and 4.9 Rb in 23.6 Minutes last season

Ely, who can play power forward or center, could play for the qualifying offer next season to become an unrestricted free agent. He could also sign an offer sheet with another team (Charlotte could match) or work out a sign-and-trade deal between the Bobcats and another team.

Charlotte will have 15 guaranteed contracts, plus a qualifying offer tendered to restricted free agent Melvin Ely.

The NBA regular-season roster limit is 15, although young players can be sent to the NBA's developmental league.

Jason Hart:

Point guard Jason Hart, who exercised his $1.68 million player option for the following season, doesn’t seem to be part of the plans. That could make for one unsatisfied player come October. Hart is as classy as they come, but he’s a competitor, too.

No need for Hart.

We'd probably have to move multiple players to get Ely, but we apparently had interest in him before.

Yeah I would think the Spurs would be interested in Ely to some extent. Too bad the Bobcats won't want to take on other players.

The Bobcats made a 3.3 Millions Qualifying Offer

We can trade E-Will for him, not too match

The only thing we have going for us there is that the Cats need to take on something like $10 million in salary just to meet the league minimum. Williams by himself would get them about halfway there. A one-for-one trade could get Ely about $5.5 million in the first year. If that's the best he can do, he might actually accept a short deal. We'd have to get rid of some other frontcourt players though.

Always you can trade Big for Small

If you have Bigs you can take smalls in a trade

In a perfect world, we'd get Jumaine Jones in that deal somehow as well. Maybe we could just get Jones for Williams.

I was just about to mention Jumaine Jones. Isn't today the day where the Spurs can trade Williams for someone else?
