Does anyone know of any good coffee joints in the medical center area? No Starbucks.

Sorry, no. I avoid the medical center at all costs.

There used to be an awesome place over on Fredricksberg and Medical called Calcutta's, but they closed, and nothing has really stepped in to replace it. There is a bakery/cafe down Fredricksberg at Callaghan called Nicavid's, though, that has a few house coffees, and amazing pastries and sandwiches. Best BLTs in town, hands down.

Calcutta's closed? NOOOOO!!! Their vanilla lattes were simply orgasmic.

May be a little far from the actual Med Center... but at Huebner & I-10 in the Strand there is a coffee shop (forget the name) that is doing so well that Starbucks has turned down the option on space in the area because they say that can't compete.

We flock there when we finish a shift @ UH.

But, if you want something different I suggest going to Bobalicious (on the corner of Callahan & Babcock) and getting yourself some bubble tea. The coconut flavored one is yummy. :)

There is a new coffee house on the corner of Medical and Fred in the little strip mall by Chase bank, but I've never been there just driven by. It looks OK though.

My roommate freshman year worked there, and I spent many evenings reading there. I miss it, god knows how many lattes and chais I consumed at Calcutta's.

Is that one in the Gold's gym strip?

It is in the little plaza next to Carlyle Place. Bobalicious is kind of hidden to the back of the building, right off of Callahan.
