Girl you know its true, Ashlee Simpsons career is over
Killed on "Saturday Night Live", October 23rd, 2004, by a disaster Milli Vanilli would have been shocked by.
It happened as she attempted to "perform" her second number of the evening.
She's introduced, and starts dancing around as the band plays the opening notes of her second song.
Then Ashley, with microphone hovering somewhere near her waist, is startled as vocals start up... and it's clear she's using a pre-recorded vocal track.
She quickly moves the mic to her mouth, but problem is, it's the wrong track... it's her pre-recorded cut from the first number, "Pieces of Me".
She looks around with a "what the hell do I do now" look on her face, but the band tries to cover by changing their music to "Pieces of Me", and they keep playing it.
That might have actually screwed the pooch: presumably, whomever was running the vocal track could have switched to the proper track. When the band started playing "Pieces" again, the vocal track guy couldn't very well start up with the vocals to a different song.
Simpson thought about lip-synching to "Pieces" again, but she gave up, and walked off the stage, perhaps realizing her manufactured career was being exposed for the fraud it is at that very moment.
At the end of the show, she blamed her band, claiming they "played the wrong song!"

It's no surprise she was lipsyncing -- she did a pretty bad job of it when she was singing the right song.
What I don't get is why SNL decided to air it. The show isn't broadcast live at all, and when there's some fuckup with the music, they run with rehersal tapes made earlier. Either there wasn't such a tape or there just making some fodder for another "reality" TV show.
Yes, I'm horribly old, but I can remember when SNL took chances with genuinely interesting musical acts. Ratings are ratings and pop is pop, but I think it's completely cool that while staying up late to watch The Coneheads, Samurai Stockbroker and Mr. Bill, I was introduced to Tom Waits and Sun Ra's Arkestra (whom they had to cut off after about seven minutes -- Space is the Place is usually a 20-minute affair).

This should be a lesson in how NOT to manage damage control. First, she starts dancing like a retard instead of just re-singing the song. She's a performer, keep performing. Then next, she jumps ship, running off the stage letting her band front the disaster. To make matters the absolute worst, she pulls a Kobe and drops other people's names for the reason everything went bad. Yeah, Im sure everyone believed that her band maliciously hooked a karaoke machine up to the feed.

From Lucky Magazine interview:
LM: What are your takes on lip-synching?
AS: I'm totally against it and offended by it. I'm going out to let my real talent show, not to just stand there and dance around. Personally, I'd never lip-synch. It's just not me.
I guess she was against Lipsynching before she was for it.

Yeah well, what you guys don't understand is that if we want to secure peace, one of the most powerful weapons of our prosperity, we need to let it be known that we are at all time ready for war. The best way to preserve peace is to be ready for war.
War is an act of violence whose subject is to contstrain our enemy, to accomplish our will.
Kerry doesn't get that.
Furthermore, the very atmosphere of firearms everywhere and anywhere restrains evil interference, the right to bear arms is an honor and good. When firearms go all goes, we need them.
Kerry doesn't get that either.

Yup, it was common practice back then...
And every dominant culture has also had slavery in it's past...Of course few can match the Aztecs concept of using slaves for human sacrifices.
The first great Slave Nation was based in Africa..it was called Egypt and they enslaved those Jews you hate so much.
And by the way, Washinton also freed every single slave he owned by the end of his life, 60 years before the Civil War....a very uncommon practice at the time...
If Slavery is such an issue to you...
Just know, the Democrats, backed by the French, fought against ending Slavery during the civil war.
The Republicans fought to end it...
Actually..even that would not have been possible if John Quincy Adams, an unpopular son of a President, who did not win the popular vote, had not lead a campaign to repeal a law that prevented even the discussion of ending slavery.
Furthermore...80% of Republicans supported the 1964 Civil Rights amendment...A Democrat, Al Gore Senior, fillibuste4red for 79 days against it. Every southern democrat voted against it.
If slavery is an issue...why support the party that founded the KKK?
More "T", less politics...

I say we slip quotes from Richard Petty into discussions with Jeff Gordon NASCAR fans. If they don't recognize them, it's proof Gordon shouldn't be driving!
I say we slip quotes from Vince Lombardi into conversations with some college football players. If they don't recognize his words, it's obvious they have no business playing pro ball.
I say we slip quotes from George Washington Carver into a conversation with the makers of Skippy. If they don't recognize his words, these so-called peanut butter experts have no business producing part of the country's peanut butter supply!

Don't try and use logic...you'll hurt yourself...the quote point was secondary...the focus on the right to bear arms was primary.
Let's see....I got George Washington clearly defending the right to bear arms...and some guy called MIA on a message board disagrees, and shares a similar view as a an anti-American fat fuck fake documentary filmaker who makes money off of exploiting tragedies ...ooh fuck me...who do I listen to there?

Your argument was not "Look at these quotes from George Washington - they clearly support the second ammendment. So do I."
Your argument was: "doesn't say much for so called liberal intellectuals that I was doing baldfaced ripping off of a famous American President and no one noticed it....Further proof you guys have no business running the country." In other words, somebody not recognizing some "ripped off" language of George Washington posted in a message board thread originally about lip-synching is proof that they, and by extension anybody who shares their political view in America, are unfit to govern.
2. Now you're trying to shift back to a second ammendment discussion, while at the same time trying to minimize my argument by associating me with a man I have never endorsed and don't approve of. I saw F9/11... and I though it was crap.
3. Please show me where I said I disagree with George Washington or want to limit the Second Ammendment. I disagree with you, sir, on your ludicrous, absurd conclusion that a person's ability to govern is somehow related to recognizing language you pass off as your own.

Everyone who wants a T & A thread I think a succesion is near. We must set out like the first pilgrams to find a new world. A world where T&A can run free from any kind of discussion dealing with logic. We must set out now, so that T&A discussions everywhere may live on. Give me T&A or give me death!!!!
Technically, posting anything political on this thread is trolling.

She's been getting ripped on Dallas Ticket.
The spin on this is getting ridiculous. First excuse is the band, then a computer glitch, then being so tired from so many performances, then acid reflux.
This is a flaming trainwreck involving the two big twins on mopeds.

Full Transcript Of Ashlee Simpson Interview
POSTED: 8:13 am EDT October 26, 2004
UPDATED: 8:30 am EDT October 26, 2004
On Tuesday morning, NBC's Katie Couric sat down live with singer Ashlee Simpson to get Simpson's side of the story on her lip-synching gaffe on "Saturday Night Live."
Couric: "Saturday Night Live" was not so live when Ashlee Simpson went to perform her second song of the night. She was caught off guard when her own voice track came on from her first song of the night. Simpson walked off stage after doing a little hoe down and following that technical goof.
She's been catching a lot of flack and she is here to tell her side of the story in an exclusive interview.
Couric: This has been a crummy couple of days for you?
Simpson: Yeah. … It's one of those situations. All rehearsals -- we have clips from all week long -- my voice was in great shape. I was so ready to go. Saturday night came at six o'clock. I have severe acid reflux. It started acting up and I could not speak or talk. But most artists on big shows do that (sing to a backing track) and I had never done it once.
Couric: Explain what that is. Vocal guide tracks or backing tracks. Does that mean you are lip syncing?
Simpson: No, I was singing with the track. Like on the first (song). I was singing with the track but my voice was not strong enough to hold up the song alone. My dad was like, 'honey, you have to do it.' He put my vocal doctor on the phone with me. 'You have to. (Singing) will ruin your vocal chords.'
Couric: When you listen to someone performing live and they have a backing track, do you primarily hear the recording or the voice of the artist or does it depend?
Simpson: You hear both. The sound bites fade in and out depending on how your voice is. I have never done it before. The first time I do it becomes a massive deal. It was something I could not control. My drummer who I love and adore accidentally pressed the wrong button and did not set up the song.
Couric: Is he still your drummer?
Simpson: Yes. I love him. Everybody makes mistakes. I didn't know that and I did the hoe-down.
Couric: This must have been so upsetting for you because this is a big break to be on "Saturday Night Live", to be the featured artist and to have this happen. It must have been mortifying?
Simpson: It was definitely upsetting and mortifying. I get comments like now , (I'm like) Milli Vanilli. I write all of my own music and perform from my heart. I am always singing on any show I have ever done. Singing as hard as I can always. This was a situation where I was in trouble like with my voice. Each in the rehearsal I was singing and I am holding my throat.
Couric: Sounding like a munchkin?
Simpson: Yes. And it was very unfortunate. What is even more unfortunate is a am being compared to that when there are artists that even at the awards show last night had backing tracks. People, listen to this! Your favorite artist.
Couric: But it's a dirty little secret?
Simpson: It's horrible. I think for me it was something.
Couric: This was at the Radio Music Awards where you made a joke about it.
Simpson: I figured why not make a joke about. I am not worried about it. I know that things happen and not everybody is perfect. You can't help it if you lose your voice. It doesn't mean you can't sing or don't write your own music.
Couric: You have been very open about how much work it took you to get where you are today. You did an MTV reality show about it?
Simpson: Yeah. And the acid reflux was on the reality show, too.
Couric: Do you feel like fans will be forgiving. Your Web site has been inundated with comments some positive and some negative. What are people saying?
Simpson: I have tried not to look at them because this has been -- it's hard. There are comments that are good and bad. I hope my fans know, especially the ones that come out to my shows, they know it's live. I never had to do that. The one time, you get sick and then -- it's a humbling experience. You could say.
Couric: Were you surprised that people were making such a big deal of it?
Simpson: Yeah, because I am not anorexic. My boob didn't pop out. I am not on drugs. I had a bad performance and I got sick.
Couric: What did your dad say? He's your manager. When you walked off stage, he said you were upset?
Simpson: When I walked off, I don't know what to do. Oh my god! He was like it's okay. You are okay. Breathe, breathe, breathe. I went back out there. Look, things happen.
Couric: Have you talked to Jessica, your sister?
Simpson: Yeah, she was like, 'stay in there and stay strong.' She knows what it's like if you are sick or whatever.
Couric: Before we go, where did you get the little hoe-down moves?
Simpson: I don't know. From Texas. I freaked out. I freaked out and didn't know what to do. … I just kind of froze. My band they started playing 'Autobiography' and switched. I love my band to death. We are all good.
Couric: They are not mad. You blamed them at the end of the show?
Simpson: It was the wrong button he pushed. I was sick and things happen. It wasn't one person that messed up.
Couric: Hopefully in the papers they will be tomorrow's fish wrapping.
Simpson: I love my drummer to death.
Couric: Well, we love him too. Thanks for coming in.

Your argument was not "Look at these quotes from George Washington - they clearly support the second ammendment. So do I."
No, the main points I was making were the same points George Washington was making...that was what factored in the quotes I chose.
I didn't just pick random quotes.
In other words, somebody not recognizing some "ripped off" language of George Washington posted in a message board thread originally about lip-synching is proof that they, and by extension anybody who shares their political view in America, are unfit to govern.
That's not really what I was saying...and frankly it'd take too much effort to explain why. It was still a secondary point.
3. Please show me where I said I disagree with George Washington or want to limit the Second Ammendment.
Ok...
Observe..
Furthermore, the very atmosphere of firearms everywhere and anywhere restrains evil interference, the right to bear arms is an honor[sic]
Too which none other than you responded:
yep. just look at Iraq. All those soldiers with guns are just restraining the hell out of the evil interference there.
Now I admit right there you aren't trying to limit the second amendment, although that statement does make me question if you understand what the second amendment actually is... Second amendment or no...I'd fucking hope you'd grant our military the right to bear arms. Doesn't do much good to have a military otherwise...So you tell me...what point were you making there?
And I'd be willing to bet those firearms our military has are restraining evil interference just a tad :).
This quote by you...
on second thought, I guess Whottt's righttt. Just think, if every kid at Columbine had a gun, that tradgedy would never have happened.
does seem to indicate a problem with the second amendment, and an argument with Georgie himself...and also an affinity for Michael Moore...The Moore connection is loose at best I admit, but you sound an awful lot like him...and again, what point were you trying to make?
Looks an awful lot like a sarcastic reponse to someone pointing out the importance of the right to bear arms...
I disagree with you, sir, on your ludicrous, absurd conclusion that a person's ability to govern is somehow related to recognizing language you pass off as your own.
And I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death(preferably with a gun) your right(and mine, which was earned by those that use guns) to say it.

A thread with a diameter of .25mm x 8 strands in cross section = gives a an area section of 6.0872E-4 inches squared.
The threads would be in shear so you have to calculate the force need to shear the threads.
But here's the problem. You have to figure out the weight of each breast. Now that might seem like a dream come true, but knowing seems like 95% of this battle as GIJOE would say.

While your premise is sound, I believe that your conclusion is flawed.
While you are correct in the theory that the thread holding the button is in fact under a shear load, the load comes not from the weight of Ms. Simpson's *assets*, but rather the force required to keep her *assets* confined within her shirt.
Therefore, while the weight is an issue and should be considered, I propose that the deciding factor would be the volume/size of aforementioned *assets*, coupled with the circumference of the garment covering said *assets* (which is decidely smaller that the circumference of Ms. Simpson at that point in space), will give the proper calculation of the load that the thread of the button is under.

Hey, I just ran a computer model and can ask one of the senoir engineers here to double check my work if you want me to get fired.
The reason I am stating weight as a force generator for the shear is simple. Force is a factor of mass not volume in this case. The shear force is present across the area of the section of the threads located between the button and the blouse. There might be some tension loading as well. I believe the tension loading is insignifficant do to the typical fashion in which a button is fasten to the fabric. This is typically done by running multiple thread loops through each of the buttons holes to provide redundency. I was calcualting the button being a 4 hole button with 2 thread loops through each hole. That was the basis for my 8 strands of thread. AS I am sure you all are well aware of, loading changes dramatically from when the load(breasts) are suspeneded vertically in tension or horizonatally in shear. Breasts and math go together so well. Even the simplest guy can count to two! :lol
