SENDAI, Japan (AP) -- Walter Herrmann scored 25 points to help Argentina secure a place in the second round of the basketball world championships with a 96-54 victory over Venezuela on Monday.

Herrmann, who plays in Spain, shot 70 percent from the field and also led Argentina (3-0) with nine rebounds. For the second straight game, Manu Ginobili of the San Antonio Spurs saw little playing time, finishing with five points in 16 minutes.

Chicago Bulls forward Andres Nocioni left the game with 7 minutes left in the third quarter when he landed awkwardly on his ankle. He remained on the bench for the rest of the game but appeared in considerable pain when he left the court after the final buzzer. Nocioni had five points in 13 minutes.

Argentina coach Sergio Hernandez said Nocioni should be ready to go for the team's next game against Nigeria on Wednesday.

"After the game, he said he'll be fine," Hernandez said. "The doctor looked at him and said he'll be OK after a rest day."

Richard Lugo scored 15 points to lead Venezuela (1-2), which was no match for the Argentineans.

Herrmann, who had 23 points against Lebanon on Sunday, scored seven straight points late in the fourth quarter as Olympic champion Argentina took a 94-44 lead.

Luis Scola, who also plays in Spain, scored 17 points in the first half.

Argentina, runner-up at the 2002 world championships in Indianapolis, has outscored its opponents 283-196 in three games.

Nocioni is a stud. After the injury he went against Nigeria 4/4 in 2pt 5/5 in 3pt and 2/2 in FT that is 100 % in all categories.

With respect to Argentina. I think that we are going to be in semifinals. I doubt that we are going to beat Spain and Spain is not going to beat US.

in Spain vs. Argentina I put my money in argentina. Argentina has the experience and heart advantage.

They are not toughies, it is just the match up. Argentina does not match up well with Spain.

If they were toughies they would have a chance against USA, and mark my words, they will not beat US once in one hundred games.

If Carlos Delfino isn't getting the opportunity in Detroit, he's getting it now.

Argentina is gonna beat Spain.. If Manu gets better playing time. I think the coach is preparing Manu for bigger games like US or Spain.
