Most of the bands I miss are gone because they got old, or someone died, or they started to suck royally. In all cases, I think they pretty much ran their course.

That Burden Brothers CD wasn't too bad and pretty satisfying for Toadie fans.

I miss Chris Cornell being ina band that doesn't make me want to punch the radio whenever they come on. Seriously, I wish he stayed doing things like his solo album.

I think some bands need to quit making music. Bradley from Sublime died at the perfect time. Had they continued on, they would have just sold the fuck out and started making lame ass music. Money and the industry would have changed them to the point where they just suck. It's a shame Korn didn't break up after their 3rd album.

The Smashing Pumpkins are back--Billy reassembled the band after his dismal failure with ZWAN and his pretentious solo album TheFutureEmbrace (all one word..ugh..).
Also, Slayer is not gone, I just saw them in July. Still rockin, still pure.

I agree with midge about Toadies, but I do like that one line in the song Tyler.

I'd have to say At The Drive In. Anyone recommend some good songs by Stabbing Westward? Just heard that one song by them on the Spawn Soundtrack Torn Apart or something.

Falls Apart (Wither Blister Burn and Peel Album)
Sleep (Wither Blister Burn and Peel Album)

Save Yourself (Darkest Days Album)
Torn Apart (Darkest Days Album)

When I'm Dead (Darkest Days Album)

Those are my personal favourites... Listen to those 3 albums first, and then if your brave the self-titled album. It is completely different.

Alice and Chains are touring again as well as the original members of Asia (heat of the moment, only time will tell, etc.)

I'm surprised no one mentioned Rainbow, with either one of their singers throughout the years. There was a rumor that Ritchie Blackmore was going to reunite with Dio but when drummer Cozy Powell passed, they decided forget it.

Well I would say, of course, my favourite band: THE SMASHING PUMPKINS

They they are in the studio right now with Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, The Cars,... ) to record another album but I only believe they are really back if I see them on stage. If it will be only Billy and Jimmy + 2 unknown musicians it would not really be the same. But it would be cool hearing all the great old songs once again. I am curious to see what happens there...

Not to mention that VH1 "reality" monstrosity, although his rampant uncontrolled alcohol use on the show explains the demise of S.R. I believe that if they had locked up all conventional beer, wine and liquor, he would have drunk mouthwash to get a buzz. Sad. He'll be dead in 5 years if he doesn't stop.

I used to get bummed out when my favorite bands broke up but after having seen a few of them reunite and usually, suck, it doesn't bother me like it used to. Most bands and singers have a short shelf life and a break up is usually part of that. The ones that have extremely talented musicians usually end up with their former members going on to excellent solo careers and producing music which is as good or almost as good as what they produced together in a band.

I notice a lot of these bands mentioned...like..

Black Sabbath
Jane's Addiction
Alice in Chains
Judas Priest etc
The Who
Even Page and Plant from Led Zeppelin...

Have either reformed at some point(and no one cared) or are actually together as we speak(and not producing anything memorable)...

Black Sabbath toured with it's original line up a couple of years ago...no one cared.

Judais Priest has had the biggest parts of it's best lineup together for 10 years now...they suck.

Even Black Flag still gets together to play gigs every once in a while...no one notices.

I look at the bands that have stayed together for eons...

Rolling Stones
Rush...

Nah...when they break up it's usually for the best...even IMO with legendary bands like The Beatles...much less blips on the musical radar like Jane's addiction.

I mean, had the Beatles stayed together...would they have produced any better than what they produced as solo artists after the break up?

All 4 members had #1 hits as solo artists...and often had a couple of members playing together on their solo projects(like Ringo Starr's 1st solo Album which had all 3 other Beatles on it).And they are just about the most talented group ever...

They would have declined right around the time Paul McCartney started to suck(1980 or so)...and turned into Journey.

Rush has had their best lineup together since 1974...still together and when I was in junior high Rush was the best band in the World...

Now? They succccccccccccccccccccccccccck and have sucked for 20 years.

These things work out for the best and I no longer wish bands got back together.

In fact...I will celebrate the day the Rolling Stones, Metallica, Rush and U2 call it quits...

Metallica has recorded the same song like 400 consecutive times since 1986...time for them to go.

U2 can still save their legacy, if they end it, now...

I don't know, I think both Judas Priest and Rush have improved since the late 80's. But I'm a huge Rush fan, so I like all of their music. Judas Priest I could take or leave, but I think most fans would tell you that the lowest points of the Rob Halford years were "Turbo" (1986) and "Ram it Down" (1988). However, "Painkiller" (1990) was actually a very good album. Their latest album has gotten good reviews.

But for the most part I agree with you. If John Bonham hadn't died, I still think Led Zeppelin would have ended up sounding a lot like Robert Plant's solo albums. There were signs of it on In Through the Out Door.

The eighties fucked up some great musicians. Steve Winwood, Yes, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Elton John, Stevie Wonder... the Eighties hit and their music suffered.

Remember when Eric Clapton remade "After Midnight" in the 80's, and it was a slower, totally polished piece of crap?

George Harrison did "I've Got My Mind Set On You"

The Grateful Dead did "Shades of Grey"

Catchy songs, but couldn't they have been recorded by someone without legacies to protect?

Great progresive musicians from ELP, Yes and King Crimson got together to form a band in the early eighties. The result? Fucking ASIA.

More bands that need to call it quits...

Queensryche
Megadeth
R.E.M.
Chicago (about 34 years late, too)

A lot of bands hang on for way too long, I agree. Elton John hasn't had a decent record since the mid-70's. R.E.M. rode "losing my religon" and shit until it became unbearable to listen to anymore.

Judas Priest's new record is ok and it's better than the ones done with Halford's clone "Ripper Owens". I think bands now days just tour so that the fans can see what it was really like. There are so many bands out and people have attention spans in nanoseconds that no one really truly follows "one group" anymore like they use to.

The reason musicans such as Wonder, Dylan, Elton, Winwood and Pink Floyd fell off was to the fact that they caved into the video age and they're music was adapted to it.

Aerosmith essentially "sold out" and their music is more polished at times. They need to go away as well, having not put out a chart selling song since "I don't wanna mess a thing" which has been run to the ground also.

KISS has now become a novelity act, which is sad because they were a good band known for their theatrics and now it's just a traveling road show with members changing costumes and such, leading people to believe they're getting the original band but are not.

The first 80's supergroup, ASIA, (which has reformed and is touring) knows it's an novelity act. What is saving them is the fact that no one has seen them perform together in over 23 yrs, so for right now it's all new to people.
