BEIJING (Reuters) - A U.S. diplomat was killed in a mortar attack near the Baghdad airport early on Sunday, Secretary of State Colin Powell said in a statement.

"I mourn the loss of one of our own today in Baghdad. Assistant Regional Security Officer Ed Seitz was killed in a mortar attack on Camp Victory. Ed was a brave American, dedicated to his country," Powell said in the statement issued while he was flying to China from Japan.

A U.S. soldier was also wounded in the attack, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher told reporters.

It was not immediately clear if Seitz was the first U.S. diplomat to be killed in Iraq, U.S. officials said.

...but was Seitz really a diplomat?

BAGHDAD — A State Department security officer was killed Sunday during a mortar or rocket attack at a U.S. base near Baghdad International Airport, the U.S. Embassy announced.

Ed Seitz, an agent with the State Department's Bureau of Diplomatic Security, was killed about 5 a.m. at Camp Victory, embassy spokesman Bob Callahan said. Camp Victory is the headquarters of the U.S.-led coalition's ground forces command.

So, he wasn't really a diplomat but a mercinary, and the story gets even odder...

Down here in OZ our mainstream media are also reporting Ed Seitz as a Diplomat. Maybe they just want to scare the pants off John Negroponte at night!!! Sleep well Mr Negroponte!

However our independent media is reporting this man as having been based at Abu Ghraib. They are also reporting him as having been identified by Islamic media sources as a torturer at Abu Ghraib prison. See web site WWW.dennismac.co.uk for details on this man.

hummm...it maybe unrelated, but do you remember this story from today?

BAGHDAD, Iraq - In their boldest and deadliest ambush yet, insurgents waylaid three minibuses carrying U.S.-trained Iraqi soldiers heading home on leave and massacred about 50 of them — forcing many to lie down on the ground and shooting them in the head, officials said Sunday.

Some accounts by police said the rebels were dressed in Iraqi military uniforms.

Security agent = mercenary?

So the little old man who greets you when you walk in Walmart is a merc? Nice logic Dan.

So folks who work for the security wing of the Department Of State (Known as the Bureau Of Diplomatic Security (http://www.state.gov/m/ds/)) are now mercenaries?

Dan, to say you are clueless would be a gross understatement.

This guy tortured people at Abu Gharib. Call him whatever you want.

Using Dan's logic, our entire Secret Service branch is nothing but mercenaries. Talk about whoreing yourself out to bash Bush.

I've come to realize that Nbadan is a lot like a pebble caught in an empty Coke can being kicked down the street.

He makes a lot of noise, but he really doesn't say anything.

So some "independent" media hack in the UK (whose website, among other things, supports Fidel Castro and the Cuban people's right to "national sovereignty... oh the irony) calls this guy operating a couple of thousand miles away a merc, a torturer, and Dan calls it a fact.

Same old Dan!

So, the "Islamic Media" is your source for denigrating the memory and honor of a fallen U.S. diplomat? Nice Nbadanallah...

The victims he tortured are the best source of info. To bad Fox News or Newsmax can't get away from their "sources say" type of reporting to get things right.

Dan...I used to wonder if you lived in the same country as the rest of us, but now I wonder if you are on the same planet. :lol

LOL, you're comparing some conspiracy nut to a credible news org? Where's CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, etc. on this one?

Fuck, your boys at democraticunderground and salon aren't even reporting this, it's all a conspiracy!

I just checked out more of your boy Dennis Mac's website. Among his nuggets of wisdom:

He claims the CIA imports heroine and cocaine into America, performs sadistic medical experiments on our people, and runs a "narcocracy" here in the U.S.

I stopped there, the only coke being used is by this "independent journalist."

Oh, and the guy is also a card carrying member of the Socialist party.

What a role model, and definitely meets the criteria for "independend media."

:lmao

Where do you find these guys Dan?

Yeah, that's why the war on drugs has been so successful. There are very powerful forces in the U.S. that don't want the flow of drugs and money to stop.

Last week you were lecturing us an all the money involved in Republican politics.

If you recognize the demos are just as dirty (if not moreso... hello China rocket technology), maybe there's hope for you yet.

You know, this thread that Nbadan started is identical to something I heard Ann Coulter talk about on the radio the other day (I was channel surfing on the way home when the Thompson brothers were in commercial and heard her being interviewed. Can't remember if it was WOAI or KTSA, not that it matters). She said that one tactic used by "liberals" was to bring up some issue that casts dispersions on the current administration, but when they are called out on it and disproven, they act as if they never brought it up and it doesn't exist and move on to some other "conspiracy".

I just thought it was a interesting coincidence that Nbadan brings up the thought that someone working for the State Department is a "mercenary" and was involved in the reported abuses at Abu Ghriab (sp?), and then when called out on it, launches into talking about some kind of narco/cabal/junta/shadow government and the war on drugs.

Dude, you should know that by now.

Democratic playbook 101: when confronted with irrefutable evidence you're talking out your ass, change to a new load of bullshit
