For anyone who doesn't know, it's basically the Nobel Prize of mathematics, except it's only awarded every four years. It's so weird to actually know someone who wins an award this prestigous. I'll have to drop by his office and offer my congratulations.

I'm so happy for the guy. A lot of geniuses are huge a-holes, but this guy is as nice as they come. Also, most truly great geniuses can't interact with normal people, but Prof. Tao is like your average everyday nice guy, except he has the intellect of Einstein. Terry is a tremendous teacher, and his topology class was by far the best one I ever took at UCLA. Man, now I can go tell people I aced a class taught by a Fields Medalist. :lol

I thought it was Sean Maguire? :lol

"You and your kiss-ass chorus following you around going, 'The Field's Medal! The Field's Medal!' Why are you still so fuckin' afraid of failure?"

"You mathematical dick!"

I thought Grigory Perelman was supposed to win for his work on the Poincaré conjecture.

Perelman was the guy who refused it.
