ya know how he often closes his unfunny and uninformed posts with a sign off where he is like "god, country, the marines, purple hearts," or something along those lines, implying these are the misguided symbols/ideals of anyone who disagrees with him? admittedly, most of you probably do not notice this as his comments are anything but memorable.

anyway, do you think he realizes that someone could just as easily come back at him with "global warming, socialist economic policy, hippies, pot, hybrid cars" or some such bullshit?

both parties would merely be listing lowest common denomenator stereotypes of the "other side" that have no basis in intelligent thought and are not represented by people on either side who can actually speak intellgently about the issues.

...anyway, not a great post here... jus wanted to illustrate one way in which elpim and his ilk do a disservice to anyone seeking intelligent discussion in the political forum.

elpim apparently believes that professing "liberal" ideals sufficiently demonstrates his intelligence, so making any good points is not needed (right-wingers like xrayzebra think and behave similarly.) consequently, even when I happen to agree with one of these types on a particular issue, I still have the satisfaction of knowing that they are total idiots.

Not misguided symbols, just abused symbols.

...and here I thought "god, country, the marines, purple hearts" were referring to Murtha and Kerry.

Both fought admirably for their country when they were called upon to serve. Veterans get more leeway when discussing nationalistic causes because they have put their lives on the line to defend our freedom and real combat veterans, not those hiding in the Texas guard, have seen the price of war, the real costs in blood and individual sacrifice that is paid by boys, based on the decisions of men.

now, now Nbadan...think of all the Vietcong that never infiltrated the Dallas/Fort Worth area because of George W. Bush's brave semi-regular service for the Texas Air National Guard.

Here are other 'fortunate sons' who at the time were lucky enough to get a slot in a much coveted Texas Guard with Dubya, despite a 3 year waiting list -

The son of then Senator John Tower.
