View Full Version : how is someone's Death funny?
Steve Perry

..in the brief time I did standup, I had enough class not to do Aids,Cancer, and Death material. I really don't see any humor in any of that.
But it seems Charlie and Chance on thier morning Sports show think Steve Irwin's death is something to joke about. The man is not even buried yet and they are having a ball with his death, Charlie said he doesn't see how this is even news.
Just when you think San Antonio sports radio can't possibly lower the bar any further, they prove me wrong once again.

Yeah because two guys represent the thoughts of a whole city.
Dumbass.

Don't get me wrong I love a good Elvis, John Lennon and Mama Cast joke. But those folks have been dead awhile and Jay Leno and David Letterman already did some material on them which opens the door to others to do the same.
I wonder if Charlie Parker was to die this week we could call in Friday with our top 10 list on how Charlie would have rather wanted to die. Sounds like good radio to me.

Dude don't get so upset when someone talks bad about a radio station you want to work for so bad. Try not to be so bias, After all the guy brings up a point.
If word gets out on those two jerks? folks around the country will say San Antonio is fucked up. They won't say Charlie Parker. Kinda like when you said two years ago how Dallas Fucked up by letting Steve Nash leave.
You didn't say a persons name you said the city.
I take it you support what Charlie and Chance did?

i know i smirked with the 'crikey' joke someone made in the other thread...
what kind of jokes did they make on the radio?
samikeyp
09-05-2006, 10:32 AM
No I didn't support what they said....I just do not think what they said is a fair representation of the ENTIRE city. I did not apprieciate what was said at all nor would I do so no matter who said it.
Kinda like when you said two years ago how Dallas Fucked up by letting Steve Nash leave.
I was referring to the franchise not the city and you know that, Mouse.

samikeyp is right but the sad truth is the city ends up looking bad. Just like Dallas looked bad for many years after the JFK killing.
Hey samikeyp, why did you turn down the ticket radio gig?
samikeyp
09-05-2006, 10:39 AM
I didn't turn it down.....I didn't get it. Its all good though, just got to bring it stronger next time.
Yeah....the whole city of Dallas got a bum rap on that. It was unfair.

Give me a break.
I take it you people have never heard true shock jocks in other cities discuss things far more offensive? Two guys on the Ticket760 are going to make the city look bad? I doubt it. If I live outside of San Antonio, I can promise you I'm not going to go out of my way log online to listen to Charlie and Chance. I'm not saying they suck at their jobs or anything, but I'm willing to bet that even they think there are better options out there outside of San Antonio.
If I'm gonna feel bad for anyone, it's going to be for some kid who dies of cancer before has a chance to experience the ups and downs of life, not some dude in Australia that got shanked in the heart by a stingray. You live by the sword, you die by teh sword. Now I wouldn't tell that to his wife or children because that's just flat out insensitive. If you cant laugh at something as inevitable as death from 4 thousand miles away.......

You expect Charlie Parker to be able to tell you the qualities of news?
That man wouldn't shut up about the "12 Most Overrated Songs" as proclaimed by bloggers the morning of the London Bombings (2005) and you're surprised he doesn't know why this is news.
Mouse, expecting anything related to journalism from Charlie Parker is an exercise in futility. But then, here they are on Spurstalk generating some talk about themselves and I've contributed.
Well, this is at least one former (way former) listener of The Ticket that still will not listen (except maybe for the Bobcats Insider or whatever it's called on Saturday).

yes and it's called FM morning shows, we have them here also. But you name a Sports show that made fun of this person.
Two guys on the Ticket760 are going to make the city look bad?
acually it's four guys you left out walter and Jeff
I doubt it. If I live outside of San Antonio, I can promise you I'm not going to go out of my way log online to listen to Charlie and Chance.
why should you? I'm sure you have local sports radio in your city worth tunning into. This topic is for the 10 people in this city who do tune in.
I'm not saying they suck at their jobs or anything,
Now I know for a fact you have not tuned in.
but I'm willing to bet that even they think there are better options out there outside of San Antonio.
I take it you never heard of Charles Bacley's take on San Antonio?
If I'm gonna feel bad for anyone, it's going to be for some kid who dies of cancer before has a chance to experience the ups and downs of life, not some dude in Australia that got shanked in the heart by a stingray.
I will pass on that info to his son.
You live by the sword, you die by teh sword.
yes but we can choose not to make jokes about it.
Now I wouldn't tell that to his wife or children because that's just flat out insensitive.
why not? you just said
You live by the sword, you die by teh sword.
why not walk the walk if you can talk the talk?
besides what if one of them was here in town visiting the Alamo and the cab driver had his radio on 76 AM? How tacky is that to hear two asshats making fun of your fathers death?
If you cant laugh at something as inevitable as death from 4 thousand miles away.......
how far do you have to live from NY to make fun of 9/11?

I heard some funny bits on a few radio stations this morning regarding the late Steve Irwin.

I fucking hate Charlie Parker more then any individual I've ever heard in my life. I completely stopped listening to 760 all together because of my utter hatred of him. In fact, my life was starting to improve until I opened up this thread and once again was reminded of that sorry excuse for a radio host. I don't care what happened 20 years ago, I don't care what kind of music you listen to, I don't care what your opinion is on Steve Irwin, I just want a real SPORTS talk show in the morning. I strongly suggest everyone just stop complaining about these two jokers and do what I did, subscribe to SIRIUS. My mornings are so much better now that I can hear about sports rather then 70's music. If I ever meet Parker in the streets, I'm punching him in the knees and giant head.

How isn't it funny? Don't be such a prude.
Perhaps the individual jokes weren't done well (likely for anything on the radio), but nothing is inherently unfunny or 'off-limits'.

My friend, you're preaching to the...err...former choir, or something. I used to say that same thing until I broke down because I'd had it with not having sports talk to listen to in the morning drive or the afternoon. Sirius is the greatest invention ever, followed closely by the thumbtack and Totino's pizza rolls. It's really not that much either.

I hear ya but it'll take more than Charlie and Chance's weak show to get me to cough up the bucks and pay for free radio. I'm only on the road about 25 minutes to and from work and there are plenty of options for me to listen to and I don't really listen to the ticket that much if at all and I rarely ever listen to the radio at home since I use the net for music. I also listen to 1420.

I've been a huge Steve Irwin fan for a while now. I'm sad and all he is dead, and it really sucks for his family, but in the end I did chuckle. I mean, he died by getting stung by a stingray in the heart. What are the chances of that! I always thought it would be by an animal much more ferocious. I bet Steve is thinking right now, "damnit, a bloody stingray got me, what the fuck!" Those who can't see the irony in the situation need to lighten up.
His death is saddening, but the circumstances surrounding his death are not.

If there were something funny about her death, absolutely. Not every death is funny, but death isn't inherently unfunny, either.
Now, I know much less about her than I do about Mr. Irwin, and as she isn't a public figure there are different standards. But, if there were something funny about the way she died, I wouldn't hesitate to use it if the right context presented itself.
So what did they say, I don't listen to that crap....
