BOSTON (Ticker) - Deion Branch will play football this season, but apparently it will not be with the New England Patriots.

The Boston Globe reported Monday that the Patriots traded the disgruntled wide receiver to the Seattle Seahawks for a first-round draft pick.

Branch, 27, was entering the final year of his five-year contract with New England. But the 5-9 receiver was unhappy with his current deal and held out of training camp in the hopes of re-structuring a contract extension.

But the Patriots, who notoriously take a hard-line stance regarding contract negotiations, gave Branch permission to approach other teams about a potential trade toward the end of August.

The MVP of Super Bowl XXXIX in February 2005, Branch set career highs of 78 receptions, 998 yards and five touchdowns last season, his fourth in the league. He has 213 career catches for 2,744 yards and 14 TDs.

Any guess as to how long it will take for Branch to be effective?

I'm guessing he'll see limited action next week if any at all, but 2-3 weeks I can see him really doing some damage

Where on the depth chart will Branch even be?

Seahawks have Darrell Jackson, Bobby Engram, Nate Burleson and DJ Hackett. All 4 WR are pretty good.

I think eventually DJack and Branch will be 1 and 2.

I'm guessing a Superbowl MVP will be somewhere near the top, Jackson is hurt and thats the only guy that is on or near the same level

Maybe Branch can teach those guys to hold onto the ball. They have been notoriously bad about that!

This is a great deal for the Seahawks! Branch is the deep threat that they have lacked.

Tlong...you think it was worth a 1st rounder?

Tlong...you think it was worth a 1st rounder?

Definitely. The 1st rounder will be very late in the round and the Seahawks are trying to win it all right now. They have to be considered the favorite in the NFC now.

Good point....a lot of what I have heard was Carolina or Seattle....this gives the Seahawks the edge.
