Anyone watching Celtic vs Manchester Utd? I hope to see a better game than yesterday's PSV vs. Liverpool draw. It was almost pathetic watching the lack of effort, but understandable cuz it was only Matchday 1 and they care more about league matches.

manutd wins 3-2 celtic

damn exciting first half though, that luis saha is a fuckn gun, i like how manutd has decided to rebuild with its young core, all they need to do is get rid of scholes and the older players. i still prefer to see rooney play AM behind saha, his not a good upfront striker imo, that dude is a hog sumtimes.

I was hoping (since I'm passionate for Mexican soccer) that Kikin Fonseca would play against Man U, but according to Portuguese newspapers, he's not even on the roster. With Nuno Gomes, Miccoli, and Mantorras, I guess there really is no need for a Mexican in Kikin, who hasn't even proven himself in Euro soccer yet. Anyways, this match ought to be extremely good, considering the Portugal/England rivalry which inflamed during the World Cup. Champions League is the best soccer IMO, can't wait for this game.

Injured Eto'o misses Chelsea ties

Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o will miss his side's Champions League games against Chelsea in October after sustaining a serious knee injury.

The 25-year-old Cameroon international was carried off during Barca's 1-1 draw with Werder Bremen on Wednesday and could be sidelined for three months.

Eto'o is definitely ruled out of Barca's trip to Stamford Bridge on 18 October and the return on 31 October.

He also misses Barca's trip to rivals Real Madrid in La Liga on 22 October.

Eto'o has torn and displaced the meniscus of his right knee and is set for further tests to determine the length of his absence.

Barca's club doctor Ricard Pruna told his club's website: "This type of injury occurs with a sudden change in the direction of the knee."

Eto'o, who was voted third in Fifa's World player of the year award for 2006, has been Africa's top player for each of the last three seasons.

He has hit 68 goals in 101 games for Barca and scored 26 times last season to finish the top scorer in Spain.

Barca lie second in Champions League Group A with four points from two games, behind Chelsea who have six points.

They are top of the Spanish League with 10 points from four games.

I mean, you gotta give credit to Scotland, but they played some the most unattractive football I've seen in months. Body-checking galore, 9 of their 10 players always around their own penalty area. I told myself they'd score on a penalty or corner and predictably they did.

02-23-2007, 01:20 PM
My favorite goal this week was the free kick by Valencia (can't remember the player) vs Inter Milan. Inter seemed very cocky playing at home, even without Adriano. Even though they don't have that many Italians on their team, they were a reflection of how Italy played throughout the World Cup. They played to not lose games, if that makes sense. They'd play really closed, in their half of the field the entire game. Either a couter-attack or set-piece would ultimately lead to a goal.

Anyways, at 2-2 and going back to Valencia, I don't think Inter is going to be so cocky

TDMVPDPOY

I hate these big teams with all their superstars getting away with not playing at all and still winning. There's too much hype surrounding teams like ManU and Real Madrid, when ultimately they are the most boring to watch IMO. I think teams like PSV and Valencia are more entertaining because they are somewhat under the radar and play hungrier.

It's obvious you don't watch soccer. PSV are in first place in the Eredivisie, well ahead of Ajax (11 points ahead). Also, they just dominated Arsenal. Granted it was in Eindhoven, but they still made Arsenal look silly.

You don't just get to the Knockout stages of the Champions League by being a bad team. I'm sorry, but that's impossible.

They are a good team, but I'm sure you think the Dutch league sucks. And I might have to agree with you on that. But if they knock out Arsenal you can't say they are not a good team. And I don't think they are good enough to win it all, but you never know.

You must be talking about the Chelsea/Arsenal fight. I haven't seen the highlights here yet, but I read about it on the internet. I saw some pictures of the kick that John Terry took, that shit looked nasty. Right on the chin. And he came back to watch the end of the game. He must have a cape and a phone both at his place. Arsenal's my fav team in the Premiership, I like how they're developing their young players, and a big fan of Henry. They essentially made it to the finals of the Carling cup with their second unit, and still let them play in the Finals. Arsenal is in a tough spot in the Champion' League, but still have a chance. I've been a Chelsea fan for many years and only recently have they had money. And they never won shit till they started spending. It was always the usual teams ManU, Arsenal, and Liverpool that had all the money. And those were the teams that would win. And now those are the teams that are complaining the most. :wtf But seriously I also don't like that they can buy every player, but if they don't there's no way they can compete. If the EPL wants it to be more fair then they need some type of cap or luxury tax. Same goes with teams like Real Madrid or Barca. Those are the teams that created the disparity, not Chelsea. They only took what they did to a new level.

Purple & Gold
02-27-2007, 10:59 AM
See you miss the point, over here, it is rated as 5th or 6th out of the European leagues, if they knock the arse out then great and i will be very fucking pleased but in terms of other teams in Europe they are not one of the big ones!

A salary cap would kill off the game, the reason fans watch the game in the first place is that they get to see some of the greatest talent in the World do battle, its supply and demand, if the demand wasnt there, players wouldnt get paid as much as they do as the clubs wouldnt have the income that they do, hence the reason why the European CL is probably the biggest club competition in the world.

As for Arsenal have no money to spend, thats rubbish, they have always had money to spend, and the same can be said for Newcarsual and Tottenham, they just refused to spend it and instead went off a developed a youth set and discovered some good players - Viera for example cost £11million...
Yeah if they put some type of cap it would create more of an equal playing field in England, but you would never be able to compete with the other super clubs from other countries. I consider the EPL the strongest league in Europe with Spain a close number 2. And it's funny to hear the other big name teams cry. They've been outspending everybody else for years. As for Chelsea there's already rumors that Abromovich doesn't want to really spend anymore. And who can blame him, he already spent a shit load of money.

And whatever happened to the super league they were talking about. Kind of like the Champions League, but not in a tournament form. Where it would be an actual league. And teams would get relegated and be brought up from their respective countries leagues. I know the leagues wouldn't like that, but that would make a great European League.

I have no problem with teams spending money, don't get me wrong. I was referring to the players I generally dislike on Chelsea rather than the fact they spent cash on them. I have been an Henry fan for almost a decade so it tends to influence my team preference.

As for the big teams crying about Chelsea's spending, I don't feel sorry for them, although now it just puts Chelsea in the group with LVP, ARS and ManU with everyone behind. I think a cap might work, as Italy has the same prob (Inter, Roma, Milan, Juventus) with only 4 teams usually making noise.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.... I hope you guys are ready for some good games tomorrow. For those watching on ESPN2 & ESPN Classic, they're gonna show Liverpool v Barcelona at 1:30 Central, and Chelsea v Porto afterwards on ESPN Classic. The other matches not shown on regular cable is Lyon v Roma, and Valencia v Inter.

This is do or die for favorites such as Barcelona and Inter (not to mention Arsenal and Real Madrid on Wed). Inter Milan is going to pay for playing like such bitches in the first leg at the San Siro, trying to close games with only a one goal lead. Now they have to go into Valencia and they technically must win, or tie with a score of 2-2 or higher to advance.

there are two legs one at camp nou in barcelona and one at anfield in liverpool.

the game two weeks ago at the camp nou liverpool won 2-1 and at the game at anfiel barcelona won 1-0.

so it was 2-2 overall, but because liverpool scored 2 away goals and barcelona only scored 1 liverpool go through on the away goal rule.

According to the goal stats, goals were scored 1 after another, starting with Ruud in minute 4 I believe. I'm definately going to catch the replay later on this week.
