Tell me who you think is going to challenge Carpenter for the NL Cy Young? If you remember, last year he had it sewn up, then entered a Sept slump (9+ ERA) and almost lost it. This year, he is on fire in Sept. 2 of his last 3 starts have been complete games, last 6 games has has had 2 shut outs, a 1 hitter, a 3 hitter, and has gone at least 8 in all but one of them. He hasn't lost since Aug 4th, when he gave up 4 in 6.

Currently, he is:
#2 in ML in ERA (Behind Santana)
#3 in NL in Wins (14 - Webb/Penny 15)
#1 in ML in Complete Games
#1 in ML in Shut Outs
#2 in ML in WHIP (Behind Santana)
#2 in ML in On Base Against (Behind Santana)

The only players that can stack up right now are Webb and Penny.
CC is 14 - 6 2.84 ERA 4 CG 3 SHO 68 Runs 164 SO 39 BB 1.04 WHIP .273 OBA
Webb 15 - 6 3.00 ERA 4 CG 3 SHO 78 Runs 153 SO 47 BB 1.16 WHIP .296 OBA
Penny 15 - 8 4.21 ERA 0 CG 0 SHO 82 Runs 126 SO 48 BB 1.33 WHIP .326 OBA

Looks like it is CC's to lose with Webb looking at 2nd.

Penny's fallen off since the ASB, so he's a no.

I think Carpenter gets the edge with his team winning.

Carpenter and Pujols both win MVP and Cy Young again.

Carpenter this year, if he had a better closer would be at damn near 20 wins.

The guy is the closest to a shutdown number 1 the Cards have had since Bob Gibson.

He pitches next against SF in a few days at home. We are 2-1 against SF (there) but they are hot recently. Game will be Matty's 1st start in StL not in a Cards uni, so you know he will want to pitch well.
