UFC 63: SEPTEMBER 23 IN ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA

Main Card Bouts:
-Matt Hughes (#1 Welterweight in the world) vs. BJ Penn (#3 Welterweight)
-David Loiseau vs. Mike Swick
-Jens Pulver vs. Joe Lauzon
-Jason Lambert vs. Rashad Evans
-Melvin Guillard vs. Gabe Ruediger

Preliminary Bouts:
-Tyson Griffin vs. David Lee
-Jorge Gurgel vs. Danny Abaddi
-Roger Huerta vs. Jason Dent
-Mario Neto vs. Eddie Sanchez

UFC 63 looks DAMN GOOD on paper....WAY better than the last 2 UFC events looked on paper...

Besides the main / co-main, which should be great, you have 5 LW matches that should be really entertaining. Tyson Griffin is making his debut...he'll be the LW Champ within 2 yrs IMO. Huerta and Ruediger are also making their debut...excellent additions for the UFC. Melvin's fights are always entertaining. And of course the return of Jens Pulver FINALLY. I really hope they have time to show Griffin's fight. They can probably squeeze in Gurgel / Abaddi since it shouldn't last that long...Danny will get taken down and submitted easily IMO.

On paper, it's WAY better than the last 2 UFC events...

I really like Penn and Swick's chances to pull the upsets... :fro

BJ Penn interview...he says he's in shape for this one... :fro

Hawaii Tribune Herald Tuesday September 19, 2006...

"It seems like everything just fell in place," Penn said. "Two months before I even got the phone call, I got over going out and having a good time. I started having fun training and it all just sort of fell into place. I was two months away from my next fight with this Japanese guy (Kuniyoshi) Hironaka when I heard that St. Pierre was hurt. A week later I got the phone call. It's unbelievable. As long as I give 100 percent that's all that matters, but I've just got a feeling that something good is going to happen."

Penn, who has a first-degree assault charge hanging over him for allegedly punching a uniformed, special-duty police officer in Waikiki after Rumble on the Rock 7 in May 2005, said he doesn't think about that since it's something he has no control over. No court date has been set. He also said that he has been training harder for this fight than he has in quite some time.

"I'm in phenomenal shape," he explained. "For my last couple of fights, I had just been doing long-distance slow running. It really doesn't pay off in the ring. You need to be able to explode for five minutes and you've got to keep being able to explode. I just keep changing my training around. But you know -- even if people consider me the true champion -- if I had gone into the ring in the shape I was in for the (St. Pierre) fight, I would have gotten a rude awakening. I learned what I learned from the last fight how the judges are going to score the fight and all the different stuff that's going on. But Hughes is fighting Superman now. This fight is for me. It would be good to bring the belt back to the islands so Hilo can have a world champion."

Penn has found himself on the short end of questionable decisions at least twice in UFC bouts. One time was a draw in his rematch against Japan's Caol Uno, a fighter that he had previously knocked out in 11 seconds. The other was in his last match with St. Pierre, when the judges gave the Canadian the nod in a close fight. He is hoping to submit or KO Hughes, to make scoring academic.

"With the beating I'm going to give (Hughes), even if he doesn't get (submitted or KO'd) I've learned my lesson," Penn said. "I know how the UFC is going to judge the fight. The last couple of fights I was fighting with a 25-pound weight on my back which was extra weight and the way I'd been training. Sometimes it was hard even to get out of the chair for the next round. I don't feel that anymore. I still feel fatigue, like everyone else, but I can still find that explosion and keep exploding. It's the will the win.

"Everybody knows what Hughes is going to try to do. He's going to try to put me on my back, push me into the fence and elbow me. Every fighter at this level, you know what he's going to do. The question is, 'Can you stop it and can you stop me from what I'm going to try to do to him?'"

"I give it to Hughes, without a doubt," he said. "Two-time world champion -- almost 10 title defenses. You can call him the greatest welterweight ever, even if I beat him again, unless I decide to stick around the welterweight division that long. But I'm thinking about going middleweight and lightweight, too, so we'll see what's going to happen. But even if I do fight at a heavier weight, I'm going to stay at this weight that I'm at right now, 167, 168. This is my fighting weight, unless I go down to 155. ... He's the bull; I'm the matador. I'm going to bring speed. I'm not going to go in there and try to match power with power.

"I'm not saying I'm going to win; but I am saying I'm ready."

There's been some talk about it, but nothing is in stone yet.

Maybe Diego vs GSP for a title shot at Hughes (assuming he beats Penn), or maybe they'll just give GSP the shot he just lost due to injury? Then maybe Diego after that...

Also, the WW winner on TUF 4 gets a title shot...that'll be either Matt Serra or Chris Lytle. They have to squeeze that fight in somewhere too...

GSP has a contract for his title shot (and he is easily the most deserving contender), so he'll get it, be it against either Hughes or Penn. GSP will fight the winner, and I betcha Diego gets the loser. I hate Sanchez, but he's a good young fighter and he's got a good shot at being champ in a few years.

Odds from Pinnaclesports.com...

Rashad Evans -187
Jason Lambert +177

Jens Pulver -670
Joe Lauzon +600

Melvin Guillard -187
Gabe Ruediger +177

Mike Swick -121
David Loiseau +111

Jorge Gurgel -630
Danny Abbadi +570

Tyson Griffin -625
David Lee +565

B.J. Penn +186
Matt Hughes -206

I'm surprised that Swick is favored slightly...IF I was betting I'd put my money on The Crow, even though I'll be pulling for Swick.

My picks...

Underdogs: Lauzon (longshot), Loiseau, Ruediger, Lambert, Penn

Favorites / Lead Pipe Locks: Gurgel, Griffin, Huerta

St. Pierre's match with Hughes the first time was good... he just got sloppy and got caught by an arm bar I believe. I'd like to see him go against Hughes again and see if he learned his lesson or if Hughes can catch him again.

F'in Penn pisses me off. He's a better fighter than Hughes and GSP, but just doesn't train hard enough. He should've went to Big Bear with Tito and trained...

The Crow looked REALLY cautious, but you gotta give Swick credit. I like that guy...

Pulver...damn, did he just get caught or is he that bad?

Tyson Griffin dominated...looking fwd to more of his fights.

I'm so tired of Evans and his undefeated record...

All in all, a solid night of fights :fro

BJ Penn separated a rib in the 2nd rd...it makes perfect sense really based on how he was standing in the 3rd...

From his website: www.bjpenn.com

Interviewer:
Take us through the second round.

BJ:
I felt great going in, Matt started trying to take me down from my right leg, it's something I expected he might do. He got me down against the fence, but I was thinking about this position alot and I was ready. When he went for a big elbow, he missed and I capitalized and started going for his back. At this moment, when I was making the turn towards his back, I felt my ribs seperate on my right side. Although I didn't know the severity of the situation. I was thinking I have to finish him now because I knew something was wrong. Matt defended himself well and got through the round. When I got up to walk to my corner, I knew something was wrong, but I didn't want to talk about it with my corner. I wanted to be the champ. I wanted to keep fighting.

Interviewer:
What about round 3?

BJ:
I remember standing up out of the corner in pain. But I was thinking, "Earn your title this is what you have to do to get your belt back, fight through the pain". I knew the oppurtunity I had with getting this fight, especially after losing my last fight. I wasn't going to quit on the corner. I kept going because I honestly believed it was destiny. When me and Matt were boxing I felt like I couldn't breathe and had no mobility in my core. But I kept thinking something good is going to happen. When Matt started dominating the stand up I tried for a takedown. I had nothing and pulled to guard. I felt like I couldn't do anything on the ground. But I was still positive. Matt hit me in the ribs from half guard. The pain was so excruciating I had to use my far hand to block it. I would rather Matt pass my guard and punch my face the hit my ribs. When Matt was in his favorite position that he likes. I was still thinking I was going to win somehow. Big John gave me plenty of time. I practiced defending against that position with flexibility, but I had none with my core. Even when Big John stopped the fight, I was still so positive I thought I escaped. Congratulations to Matt, he is a great fighter. It's not his fault that that happened, he fought like the champion he is. He deserved the victory.

It makes sense after seeing how he was standing in the 3rd round...sounds like a fluke injury. :depressed

Penn did an excellent job of working from the guard and better yet went to a "rubber guard" or an open guard at times that was very impressive.

It shocked me how well he fought Matt standing and he did not look like he was having problems in the corner after round two.

Some BJ Penn fans.....I have honestly never seen a worse group of sore losers in my life.

I have heard every excuse in the book so far; BJ was hurt, BJ didn't train right, BJ needs to work on his cardio...wahhhh wahhhh.

BJ Penn was beaten by a better fighter.

"Yeah, but if BJ's cardio was better, he would have finished Matt"

The above statement? Bullshit. BJ couldn't put Matt away in the first two rounds, when BJ is his best. So what makes you think Matt would all of a sudden get worse as the fight goes on?

Matt Hughes may have some of the best cardio I have ever seen, and he is more than willing to go five rounds. There aren't many other fighters who can do that, but Hughes can.

At UFC63, Matt Hughes proved he was the better fighter. End of story.

Sore loser???

I don't think round 3 had much to do with cardio. At first I did but was still confused how he could go from tooling Hughes on the ground in round 2 to not being able to lift his arms in round 3. It made no sense...

The rib injury perfectly explains the reaction of Penn going into round 3. We were robbed of seeing a great fight because of it. If it was from a kick to the ribs that would be a different thing. If what Penn says is true, it sounds like a fluky injury while twisting his body around to me. I hope he gets to fight Hughes again someday because IN MY OPINION, Penn is a better "fighter." Hughes is probably in better shape, but Penn is more skilled and more fun to watch. I'm tired of Hughes wrestling / GnP...and I'm tired of Team Miletich. Hughes and Sylvia need to be knocked off...maybe on the same night at UFC 65??

GSP can do it...but I don't know about Monson...

I wasn't personally attacking you. I should have clarified that I have read so much BS on MMA forums from BJ fans.

Does it strike no one else as odd that such an unnaturally flexible person seperated a rib going for back mount? If he was injured, I find it strange that he didn't tell his corner during the fight or anyone else until he was home back in Hilo.

I love how we're just supposed to beleive BJ with no medical proof whatsoever, and regardless - whether or not he was injured fighting, he got beat. Excuses don't change anything.

I don't think BJ is a better fighter. He got beat by GSP, and now Matt Hughes. We can talk about skills all day long, but skills are only a part of the equation of what makes a "fighter". Cardio, toughness, heart, and experiance are vital to what makes a fighter. As far as Hughes being knocked off, don't hold your breath. He has been too dominant and even though I am a GSP fan, I don't think he has what it takes to beat Hughes.

LEONARD
09-26-2006, 11:18 AM
I guess we'll just have to wait until the medical report is out. If it's not on there, then he's a little bitch. He doesn't sound like he's making excuses up to me though...

http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=2682

MMAWeekly is a solid source...I know they're referencing Penn's site, but the fact that they put it on their site gives it some credibility IMO. Anything can happen no matter how flexible he is. He twisted really hard several times in the 2nd round to try to get out from under Matt. It seems believable, and his reaction in the 3rd round seems in line with a rib injury...

BJ was definitely NOT in shape for the GSP fight. Of course that's part of fighting...but he showed in the 1st round what he CAN do. If he turned into a cardio machine I think he'd punk GSP and Hughes all over the ring...that's my opinion. I just don't know that he has that in him based on the things he's said though...

If Hughes beats GSP he'll have a fight with the Serra / Lytle winner from TUF 4. I don't know if that will be before or after they give Diego a shot at him (if they give Diego a shot).

Serra / Lytle winner
Diego
Penn again?

Depends if Penn continues his move down to LW where I think he'll dominate, assuming he's mentally into it...

More than anything I'm pissed that we were robbed of a great fight by a fluky injury. I wanted to see IF Penn could go 5 rds. He said he was in shape but I wanted to see it...

You know, Diego vs. Hughes would be interesting. I don't think Diego is near Hughes' caliber yet, but I'd be interested to see how much of a challenge Diego would be. After he won TUF and even beating Gassaway in his debut, most people thought he wasn't for real and he would have a short lived career in the UFC. When he beat Nick Diaz, he still didn't get much respect in my opinion. But you watch his fight with Karo Parisyan, holy shit, he really made people stand up and notice. He certainly got my respect with that win, and he does belong in the UFC.

He keeps surprising people, and a match with Hughes is something that I would look for with anticipation more than another Hughes vs. Penn. Of course, we could see Diego be tested against GSP or Penn before they'd give him a shot at Hughes.

Sherdog is full of morons. Yeah, you do have knowledgable people there, but the trolls and morons far outnumber them in my opinion. Their access to fighters and some of the news coverage is pretty good though. All in all, it's a good MMA site, but a horrible forum.

As far as UFC vs. Pride, I prefer UFC because of their matchmaking.

Pride is getting better. Matches like Hidehiko Yoshida vs. Cro-Cop was absolutley pathetic. For so many years you'd see some Japanese tomato can get annihilated by someone like Silva. There was way too much of that.

There is NO WAY in hell you could be on the same level as me UNLESS you start by doing a couple of VERY SIMPLE things.

1st---> Admit Wandy Silva isn't the greatest fighter of all time. This is pure common sense.

You need to check my post from above & maybe make some more progress with another admission of being wrong. There is NOTHING wrong with being wrong. I said, you will make progress by admitting Wandy ISN'T the best of all time.
Anybody can check your posts throughout countless threads & see how much adoration you pile upon 3 fighters & WOW!, all 3 are in PRIDE.
Wandy, Cro & Fed Emi
It is almost you like you might be, dare I say be SCARED to admit that there is a Welterweight & Middleweight division that PRIDE DOESN"T dominate. I will admit that AS OF NOW, HW is another issue.

How many freak fights does UFC have that lower the cred of serious MMA?

Does PRIDE have good fighters? Sure, so does UFC.
IMO, the MMA value of the events is better in UFC events than the sometimes circus/carnival like fights of PRIDE.

Look @ it this way Leonard. I assume that you are a big fan of soccer.

2. Wandy Silva is NOT the best of all time. I don't see what that has to do with anything?? What point are you trying to make exactly?? I do think Silva is better than Chuck...

and Fedor is the greatest of all time IMO...

Fighters I like include: Fedor, Crocop, W. Silva, Liddell, Franklin, Penn, Big Nog, Aleks, Rampage, Anderson Silva, Forrest, Swick, Guillard, Neer, Frank Shamrock, Kang, Dan Henderson, Shogun, Tito, Babalu, Little Nog, Mark Hunt, GSP, Karo, Fitch, Gomi...

I'm pretty sure that spans Pride, UFC, WFA, Strikeforce, etc...

For starters, Pride doesn't have a WW division. I'm sure they could get some of their guys to fight at 170 lbs and do quite well. The weight classes between Pride and UFC don't line up perfectly...

Not ignoring MW at all. Since when does the UFC dominate MW? 3 of the top 10 in the world are from the UFC (again, using MMAWeekly's rankings)...Franklin, A Silva, and Marquardt. Franklin is at the top, but there are several guys in Pride that could give him a great fight...Filho, Kang, Henderson, Misaki. How many in the UFC are worthy of a fight with Franklin right now besides Anderson? Swick is close and might be next in line. Sorry, but Pride is deeper at MW despite Franklin being at the top. That's my opinion. Please state your case for why I'm wrong...educate me...

Are you ignoring the LW division that Pride dominates right now? With that said, I'm very excited about the UFC LW division though...they're always entertaining to watch.

LHW - who besides Tito is worthy of a title shot with Chuck?? Vera if he'd drop down. Forrest?? What about Pride? Shogun, Arona, Silva, Little Nog...they'd all give him a great fight and IN MY OPINION, Shogun and Silva would beat Chuck even under UFC rules.

HW - no reason to discuss it really...

3. I use Sherdog and MMAWeekly the most...and probably equally between the 2...

4. I'm sorry, but the "freak fights" in Pride have no impact on ANYTHING. There are a few per YEAR. You act like they're on every card....

and no, I don't watch soccer...

IX_Equilibrium

I don't mind the occasional "freak fight"...

Crocop vs Yoshida was part of the OWGP. That's just part of the open weight tourny...

I think you're over-stating the # of mis-match fights between Japanese cans and good fighters. Of course Pride is going to try to push their (Japanese) fighters, but they don't all suck and nowhere near every fight has a Japanese fighter in it...

I don't like freak fights because someone could get seriously hurt, and that would tarnish the emerging sport of MMA. Sites like the one I told you about earlier are trying so hard to fight the lame arguments of calling MMA "human cockfighting".

Which is one reason that I don't really like the Open weight tournaments. Of course that will provide many mismatches. I didn't overstate the criticisms I had regarding the current day-Pride. I did say it was getting better. But my criticisms were accurate as far as how Pride was in the past.

I will bash the UFC of one thing though, and they could really learn a lesson from Pride: Ref stoppages.

The UFC has had a bad history of stopping fights way too early. Cecil Peoples probably had the worst ref stoppage in history. But what guys like Big John do is that if a guy gets knocked down hard, they will stop the fight even when the guy who gets knocked down has a chance to clinch and maybe get the aggressor in their guard. (Sakuraba vs. Marcus Silveira is a great example.)

There doesn't seem to be an issue in this with Pride, because the refs seem to want to make sure that the downed fighter has no chance.

LEONARD
09-28-2006, 06:46 PM
I can't stand the cockfighting tag either...

I scanned thru about a dozen Pride shows from the past 5-6 yrs and typically there were 3 or 4 Japanese fighters out of 12-18 fighters per show, and some of them were matched up head to head. Probably around 20%-25% of the fighters are Japanese and many of those are great fighters! There are just too many great fights/matchups to rip on Pride for having a few Japanese fighters that shouldn't be there. I'd put Pride's spare Japanese fighters up against the spare UFC fighters any day... :fro

If there was ever a card like that, I'd put my money against yours.

Japanese fighters weren't my only problem with former cards. For a while Pride had the whole "work" rumors floating. They had a cheesy pro wrestling factor to some of the way they did things. I know there was some sort of loose affiliation with a pro wresting organization, but I don't know enough to expound upon that.

One of the things that pissed me off the most was when Sapp fought Nog. I cringed of seeing a true fighter and athlete go against some steroid freak. Thank God Nog didn't come out of that with some career ending injury.

Agian, Pride has greatly improved. I hope that we can see Kharitonov look like the unstoppable fighter he used to be. Tough two loses for him. Man, I liked watching him fight.

Put an MLS game up against a live fight night on cable (ie, Spike TV) and I guarantee the MMA will have better ratings. Hell, The Ultimate Fighter reality show would have higher ratings...

Nah... any sport that needs to play like Tyson is coming on just to drum up ratings is lame.

Huh???

Tyson has NOTHING to do with the UFC or any other US MMA org. Spike TV / The Ultimate Fighter is the reason for the explosion in the US. UFC PPV's are drawing anywhere from 400k to 700k buys right now. Boxing has been left in the dust by MMA and it's still growing...

Pride is coming to the US in Oct for the 1st time and they brought out Tyson at their press conf a while back. They're just trying to draw US fans that aren't familiar with Pride. Butterbean is fighting on the Oct card...he's an MMA fighter now...again, trying to draw US fans with a name they recognize. Tyson is not on the card for Oct...he's not on any card yet. They've just mentioned that he will be doing some exhibition fights, in Korea or China (I don't recall which). Tyson is a big MMA fan...

Pride is one of the biggest sports in Japan. Their shows have drawn up to 90k people. They DEFINITELY don't need Tyson to help hype their org, or the sport. The only reason Tyson was brought in was to help get US fans onboard with Pride...

Probably.

Sylvia is big, slow, and has limited skills, but he wins. He is a tough fighter who loves to brawl and has a good chin. I was shocked as hell when he beat Arlovski the first time as well as the 2nd.

I thought Arlovski would have shot on Sylvia, take him down, and submitted him. Basically just expose his weaker ground skills. But he stood up the whole time and traded jabs. Sylvia fought a smart fight keeping the distance and accumulating points (much like Hominick did against Gurgel). He didn't want to go to the ground, and wisely so.

We will see what Monson does, but I think Tim will keep his belt.

I agree...AA's gameplan was terrible. I think he was trying to prove that he doesn't have a glass chin instead of winning the damn fight. That was the worst 5 rd fight I've ever seen.

Sylvia surviving the punch from AA in their 2nd fight was the only thing he's done that has impressed me. I still think he was lucky to put AA down like he did. I think he'd have been in trouble had that not happened...

First-ever airing of Matt Lindland-Jeremy Horn fight runs Sunday, Pitbulls-Silverbacks and Gracie-Miletich Superfight airs Monday as part of two hour "Best Damn Sports Show Period" Special

NEW YORK, September 28, 2006 --The International Fight League (IFL) will provide fans with two consecutive nights of action this coming Sunday, Oct. 1, and Monday night, Oct. 2, on Fox Sports Net. Sunday night, fans will get to see a one-hour special featuring the Jeremy Horn-Matt Lindland fight from Memorial Coliseum in Portland. On Monday night, the IFL and FSN will present a special two-hour prime-time edition of "The Best Damn Sports Show Period," featuring last week's battle between the Silverbacks and the Pitbulls. The team matchup will then be followed by the much-anticipated Pat Miletich-Renzo Gracie Superfight, which wrapped up the "World Team Championship" quarterfinal evening last Saturday at The Mark in Moline, Illinois. The Monday matchup will also see the legendary announce team of Stephen Quadros and Bas Rutten reunited for the first time in several years.

"These consecutive nights of IFL action will go on the 'must-see' list for all MMA fans, and being part of the 'Best Damn Sports Show Period' Monday night will be an added plus," said IFL Commissioner and co-founder Kurt Otto. "The fans who witnessed these two events first hand will get to relive them on tape, while those around the country will be treated to the action they have only read about thus far for the first time."

The Sunday night action on FSN is slated to run in most areas at 6:00 p.m. local time, with the exception of FSN Arizona, where it will air at 5:30 p.m. The show will also be re-broadcast throughout the week, and the entire FSN schedule is available online at www.IFL.tv.

On August 25, 2006, IFL entered into an Agreement and Plan of Merger with Paligent, Inc. (PGNT:OTCBB), pursuant to which IFL would emerge as the surviving entity. Tell you what, when you kids get done calling each other names out on the playground, come inside when 'the boys' and me will be watching a decent sport that won't wilt in another couple of years due to the fact it's fan base will have grown up and gone to college or moved out with the 5 kids and 300-pound wife to a trailer park that doesn't get cable.

You know, back in the 50s they had another fad - roller derby, that was pretty dern popular at the time and then made a comback in the 80s when I was a youngin', but faded away again. Such is the fate of all fads... which will include ufc.

Maybe I'll make you some lemonade, ok champ?

Now that there is nothing left to be said but baseless and adolescent namecalling, which is the way of your generation and I'm sure which will follow in my direction shortly, I'll let you have your cute little thread back.

When you are ready to graduate to something other than a fad, then maybe we can talk on the same level.

That's funny, I've never heard of another "fad" that's lasted more than a decade :lol Apparently the only mma fans you've run into are the TUF newbie fans who think because they've taken a few bjj classes they can whip anybody's ass. By the way, enlighten me please. Exactly which generation is "mine"? Seems to me the most adolescent thing we've seen around here so far are your bitter bad-attitude posts about something you don't know much about. Wife leave you to become a Chuck Lidell groupie?

In one demographic it got higher ratings. Sure you understand that overall, it did not have a higher rating. The article even fails to say what the rating was for the NBA game. In fact, the rating was an overall, respectable 1.9, averaged 1.7+. The Playoffs had overall one of its worst ratings recently (altho up .5 from the year prior) and averaged a 3.8 without the Finals. The Finals averaged an 8.5. And according to NBA.com "TNT's ratings for the 2006 NBA playoffs are up 14 percent from last year; ESPN is up 22 percent."

Martha Stewart could win women 50-65 over an NBA game, but it doesn't make it more watched overall.

So beating an NBA playoff game on ESPN in the target demo is meaningless?? :lol

I'm not saying it's the next big thing for EVERYBODY, but you trying to compare it to MLS and WNBA is a joke...

Bottom line...you don't know anything about the sport or how successful it's become. There is NO POINT in you posting in MMA threads...

I'm sure MLS ratings are great in Hispanic homes and WNBA in Lesbian homes, but they won't save those leagues, either. You have to go BEYOND your target audience. NASCAR is for rednecks, but they found an audience beyond Dixie and are now bigger than NHL and are the biggest spectator sport in America.

Saying I know nothing about it is your folly. Without baseless and uninformed personalized attacks, I would have shut up long ago.

Last week's cable ratings?
1. Steelers vs. Jaguars ESPN 13.3
2. WWE Raw (Mon, 10 p.m.) USA 4.9
3. WWE Raw (Mon, 9 p.m.) USA 4.6
4. Dog the Bounty Hunter A&E 4.5
5. Zack & Cody Disney 4.4
5. Pirates of the Caribbean USA 4.4
7. Spy Kids 2 Disney 3.6
8. Zoey 101 Nick 3.5
8. Nip/Tuck FX 3.5
10. Finding Nemo Disney 3.3
11. Avatar Nick 3.2
12. Ned Declassified Nick 3.1
12. Flavor of Love 2 VH1 3.1
14. Cheetah Girls Disney 2.9
15. Princess Diaries Disney 2.8
15. Drake & Josh Nick 2.8

Maybe ufc should be on Disney after Zack and Cody. My kids love that show.
** fyi - it was a rerun last week and still got a 4.4

All those ratings tell me is that children watch WAY too much tv.

I don't recall saying that the UFC is blowing cable tv ratings away did I? I'm simply trying to show that you're downplaying the success of the shows on Spike TV, and the sport in general... :rolleyes

There's a reason that other channels have MMA (or combat sports in general) related shows now. The Ultimate Fighter has been a huge success...

FSN - Pride and IFL covered on several differnt shows including The Best Damn Sports Show
MTV 2 - final fu (lame)
BET - don't recall the name, haven't seen it
Oxygen - women fighting, haven't seen it
Men's Outdoor and Recreation channel - bodogfight.com
ESPN / ESPN 2 - showing old ISKA re-runs.

Everybody is trying to get a piece of the pie...

IN MY OPINION, based on the things you've posted, you don't know anything about the sport.... :lol

I'd be curious to see a full list of cable TV rankings so we could ignore Disney and Nickelodeon...who cares!!

Hmmm, I thought Kongo would win.
That is why they fight the fight though, almost anything can happen.

What about Ken Florian?

Sean Sherk Vs. Kenny Florian

Sean weighs a little bit more and has more wins 29-2-1, Ken is a few inches taller. but anything can happen, for now i'm leaning towards Sean.

I'm picking Sherk. He is a great wrestler and will take Ken down. He is no doubt working on his sub defense to not get caught. I predict Sherk will win via gn'p much like the same way Diego Sanchez beat Florian.

I'm gonna have to go with Kenny Florian on this one. Every time he fights it's against somebody a lot larger, and everybody says, "He'll be crushed, killed!" And then he always wins. Never bet against the Kenflo. Even if he does have one of the worst nicknames in the business :lol

Mr Dio

I'd have to agree w/Des.
I think Florian does win & it would most likely have to be via submission.

i think sherk will win easily ken has beaten some big guys but none as big or as smart as sherk imo

Florian doesn't get enough credit for his BJJ, but I think Sherk will maul him...

Anderson Silva upset :-o

Other winners:
Jon Fitch
Dan Lauzon (**upset**...this is a guy to watch...his brother KO'd Pulver at UFC 63)
Yushin Okami
Cheick Kongo
Keith Jardine
Clay Guida
Kurt Pellegrino
