Grant Hill's last stand
September 21
Orlando Sentinel (registration required): "Magic General Manager Otis Smith said Wednesday that the club's door will be open for Hill to re-sign. Hill indicated last season that he would even play for the veteran's minimum -- a little over $1 million per season -- after his mammoth deal ends."

It's always a risk when you sign a player who's had surgery and is still on crutches at the signing. Don't weep for Orlando. The Magic are a business, and no doubt had insurance to cover such contingencies.

Damn when Grant Hill was first drafted he was a fucking bad ass. And now most people wont even remember his name when it's all said and done.

Anybody that knows even a little bit about college basketball will remember his name. He still had what I consider one of the greatest dunks of all time while at Duke.

For you stoopid asses who think his continuing to take millions a year that that Orlando could have used for other players, eat crap. He could have easily taken a salary reduction for sitting on his ass and still had mega millions to eek by on.

You have no interest in "team". Keep sniffin Grant Hills shorts. The Hill sniffers have come "out". :elephant

Oh don't get me wrong, what I meant was the casual basketball fan or the younger fans. You can ask a little kid who Kobe Bryant is or who Shaq or maybe even LeBron James and they'd be able to tell you that they know who they are. Ask that same kid if they know who Grant Hill is and you might not get the same answer. Its unfortunate that he cant stay healthy enough to reach his former all star level. Grant Hill was the truth and he had plenty of game, I even owned a pair of his old signature Fila shoes.

I think that title now belongs to the NY Knicks. There's a BIG bright ray of hope for the Orlando Magic aka Dwight Howard, so I think the Magic well be ok.

orlando could have used their exception on him this last year if they so chose. so now it's grant's fault the NBA has guaranteed contracts?

Grant would have been a Superstar. He was already on the threshold. If he would have stayed healthy Orlando would have made it to the Finals at least once, if not a couple times during the years that the East sent 'decent' teams to battle the Spurs and Lakers.

Hill averaged 22 points, 6 assists, 7 rebounds, 2 steals during his time with the Pistons. He played only around 45 games the next 4 years in Orlando. During those years, the Magic were still over .500 and a playoff team the 1st 3 of those 4 even without him. With a healthy Hill...the Magic would have been a great opponent for the Nets teams, Philly/NY/Detroit. The face of the East could have been vastly different.

Throughout all his problems, Hill has always been a standup human. He had the ability to be one of the best of our time.
