Texans,

Out here in San Diego we have a pretty alright waterslide park.
But then i have nothing to compare it to.

Knotts Soak City, same owners as Knotts Berry Farm.

Now I'm reading where CNN calls Schlitterbahn #1.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/TRAVEL/DESTINATIONS/08/25/waterparks/index.html

Have any of you slid up there and how was it?

I haven't been in like 15years but it was great back then and from what I have seen, looks awesome.
The Travel channel also rates it #1 in the nation.

Travel Channel's TopTen waterparks also placed S/B as USA's #1 water park.

Fabbs, I used to live in "Chula Juana" Where is Soak City at exactly???
I have never been to Schlitterbahn, but everyone says it is great and it has been Number 1 for years...BTW I hear there is a "Schlitterbahn" down in Corpus Christi(anyone knows where that is at???

SB opened a park a while back down on South Padre and another one this summer out here in Galveston. Great parks, but neither can match the original.

schlitterbahn is great - the slide at the entrance you can catch air with the mat if you pull up, and the coke straws are good for splashing. the original part of the park is best, it still uses the river water. other parts are chlorinated.

I'm sure that it was just disinformation from the vast, right-wing conspiracy. :lol

Schlitterbahn rules in my opinion. They know how to operate a waterpark and have the greatest rides. Contrast that with here in Northern California. Waterworld USA will close for good here in Sacramento next week and the Manteca Waterslides closed a few years ago. I think with all the regulations here in Cali. nobody can turn a profit at these places so I think that is why our places here aren't up to Schlitterbahn's caliber.

I loved SB as a kid, but the last few times I've gone, it just hasn't been that fun. Yeah, it's cool to go out there and have fun but I end up going with my girlfriend who doesn't like to go on the slides much (we'll go on 3 or 4 and spend the rest of the day in wave pools or the lazy river), or I end up taking my cousins who are all under 6 yrs old, so we can't go on the crazy big slides.

Back when they opened the third park in Newbraunsfels, the one with that huge ass slide that you have to wait like an hour to go on, that place was pretty cool. Now I just don't have the patience to wait in that line. I went with my best friend and his girlfriend this past summer...we had some fun, but I guess I'm burnt out on Schlitternbahn now. I've been going there multiple times every summer since I was like, 6 years old (15 years in a row now just to put it in perspective).

I'm sure it is a fun place if you've never been. I still enjoy some parts of it, mostly the original park that still uses river water. It has some bad ass slides and rides.

god damn I love me some Schlitterbahn!
It is #1 in my opinion.

I have been to 2 other water aprks for comparison, Enchanted Park water safari in NY, and Lake Quassipaud in CT.
neither can hold a candle to Schlitterbahn.

We go twice yearly to Schlitterbahn for the past 7 years. I've learned to avoid the super crowded days (weekends in July and early Aug). When it;s too crowded it will ruin your day. When it's not crowded it's like you went to waterpark heaven.

The oroginal park is still the best. Shock full of rides, slides, lazy rivers, fast rivers, tube rivers, wave pools, hot tubs. etc etc. It;s difficult to not spend all day in the water.
The 2 new parks are about 3 blocks down teh road and you get there by shuttle.
Blastenhoff is a good park if you are into the super awesome water rides. they have several water roller coasters - all excelllent IMHO. YOu can;t be dissapointed at all.
Also they have a great wave tube river thing, and great mix- age use water appliances. Liek a giant pirate ship. I always hit that area up 1st so I cna go on the coasters 2 or 3 times before it gets real crowded. then I move on to the original park.
Surfenburg is the otehr "new" park. The whole thing is more fmaily oriented... like if you have kids between the ages of 7 and full gorwn than you would spend alot of time at surfenburg. They have 1 ride I really like, but otehrwise we dont; really go in there.

I have never been to the SB' at padre or galvaston but I have heard some good stuff about them
1. they are not as big as the original SB. but SB has been around a looooong time to get as big as it is.
2. the one on south Padre was engineered with a water taxi system so that you never have to get out of the water.
3. the one in galvaston is going to be a year round water park. It has a retractable roof and will use heated water during the winter.

my in-laws live in New Braunfels now. About 3 min. walk from Schlitterbahn. so I am going to get season tickets for us this dec when they go on sale. Wer can just go up for 1/2 a day and stay at my in-laws... take the girls to the littel kiddie areas.
fun fun fun.
