Anybody see him at the press day event or elsewhere? Has he come to camp lean and mean or fat and happy?

He said that he was gonna have a break out season averaging 15pts and 10rebs.
Hell I don't know! I don't think anybody saw him. There hasn't been talk about him.

Kori took a picture of him sitting and talking on the mobile phone. She referenced it in the Media Day thread. Photos listed on WOAI link below.

I think he looked the same to me as he did last year (but I didn't see him without a shirt or anything). I don't want him to lose weight though -- just get toned. The Spurs need a thick center (have you seen how skinny Elson is?) So I think Butler just needs conditioning not reallly weight loss.

I pray to god that Jackie Butler turns out to be what we need him to be.

Logging minutes in the playoffs? Not shooting three pointers in blowouts?

Jackie Butler: The Spurs newest acquisition was a little flabby coming in from New York. The Spurs think he will thrive in a new environment. In fact, Butler is already in much better shape since reporting and playing pick-up ball with the guys this summer. He’s got a great soft touch within 15 feet and could be a real surprise to some teams.

Hopefully Elson and Butler play as good as they sound from the reporters there.
Of course it could be fluff pieces, but its great to hear Butler is fitting in well as well as Elson.

I really doubt Elson will do more than he did at Denver. I don't know what it is with these guys with so much physical attributes, and they just can't basketball. At least being a hustle player doesn't require being a rocket scientist.
Butler seems more promising, just because he may have not reached his potential.

Butler will surprise everyone in a very good way. Here's why:
*from what he showed last season he has good feet, good hands, and moves very well for his size - although he has a lot to learn about NBA play, he has the physical gifts to make it,
*his only NBA experience thus far was on a team in turmoil with no leadership and certainly no Tim Duncan and Robert Horry to teach him about being an NBA big man,
*he's 20 and only on a short contract so he's playing for his NBA future - he shows nothing, he'll end up in the NBDL - he's playing for his future livelihood.
Butler will surprise everyone by the end of the seaosn. He can post up, rebound, and knock down the J. He can also block shots (about 1.8/40 mins in very limited time, 13mpg), and there's no reason he can't do that very well in our system given his athleticism. Rasho could do it, no reason Butler won't be able to.
My prediction is that the kid shines ad that people are raving about him by March. :smokin

People said the same thing about Nazr- but he never got it. Will Butler? is the question. He has the potential, but does he have the brains?

Yes, that is the question, but he's 20 and has landed in a very good position ot learn, so here's hoping he has at least an average bball IQ. That's all he needs ot succeed here.

Rasho and Nazr were mediocre before coming here. Both still are offensively, so at least Butler already has good O... Bring him off the bench and we have a post player in the game when Tim rests!

Indeed we do. :)
A lot of people are questioning Butler, and fair enough, but I'm calling it right now - he will be a San Antonio hero by season's end (barring injury), and the future of the franchise at centre.
