... of the Texas Triangle 2004/2005 Pre-Season:

THE SAN ANTONIO SPURS!!!

The Spurs' annual, grueling "rode-in-rode-out road trip" took them first to DAL and then to HOU (home is where Laredo is), in one bone-crushing, exhausting week.

Your SpursTalk.com roving reporter was dispatched to Laredo by timvp (where do I mail my expense report? cash is fine.)

A phone call to Laredo Entertainment Center said tix were not sold out, and perhaps more tickets would be released in the afternoon. Good enough, charge up the digicam batttery, "Get Your Motor Runnin, Head Out The Highway", .....

Driving tedium was relieved by the magnificent mountains and breathtaking valleys, rivers, and forest along IH35 between San Antonio and Laredo. IH35 was bacially bumper to bumper trailer-tractors between SA and Laredo, going down and coming back, carrying cocaine and illegal aliens inbound, and $$$ outbound.

Laredo has tons of all kinds of mature palm trees.

Got to LEC about 18:00 for 19:30 game, several 100s already lined up waiting for doors to open. Parking was free, thanks.

Ticket office said "sold out". Not to worry, surely I could score a ticket in front of the ticket office. Two municipal bicycle cops in hot pants said their were looking for scalplers, so I moved around to LEC door C which had a long line of people entering there, and plenty of others coming from the parking lot.

Nobody was obviously hawking tickets, and the one guy who looked like he was, was actually looking for a ticket. We agreed to direct any offers to each other. He did come back later saying he scored a ticket, but there was only one.

Nearly everbody was in Spurs gear and colors. One guy had a Rocket red game jersey on, but on the back it said "Duncan 21". :)

19:30 arrived, no ticket, game starts. fuck timvp!! :)

I spotted a TV monitor inside the LEC visisble from Port C entry that was showing the teams warming up, so I parked myself there, hoping they would show the game, with another monitor not too far away showing the World Series game. The bball video feed was good quality and seemed to be the Houston station feed, but without ads. And just "raw" video, WITHOUT clock/score overlay. And just in case TV viewers couldn't figure it out, the TV flashed a "replay" title before and after every ..... replay. duh

So I watched the game from outside the LEC, through the glass and 30 feet from the TV, with no scores, and no toilet, and no beer becasue the beer hawker wouldn't sell to me outside the doors. fuck fuck fuck.

At halftime, I wandered around took some flash pics of the plants in the xeriscape next to where I was watching TV. Almost immediately, a lady with a neck tag and her shaved-head security white guy came out and started eyeing me, and then the earlier police duo showed up a minute or 2 later to ask me, all friendly like, if I had scored a ticket. Homeland Bogus Security wasting Laredo's Finest resources checking out middle-aged, fair-skinned guy in a Spurs hard-hat taking pictures of plants (I guess if I had been taking pics of Castor plants, their "check out" would not have been so ridiculous)

Other halftime activities included discovering a lunar eclipse, which must have been unique to Laredo since there was no mention any any national/local press all day. :)

A warm and breezy evening made standing for several hours quite pleasant.

I had no idea of the score all game, and was gratified to see HOU pressuring Spurs late in the 4th qtr, indicating HOU were behind.

At least I got to see the game. :)

Wilks looked great on both ends. I think we're set for PG depth if Beno can stay healthy.

Rasho hit 2 or 3 jump hooks. His 2 dust ups ended with Yao had Yao on the floor. I had to laugh at that

Massenburg continues to surprise me, looking at his career stats. He could actually be of some real help blocking shots, rebounding, and even a bucket or two while Rasho takes a breather, rather than just being a journeyman warm body. Tony even make a power postup move, got cutoff and looped a passed around the defender to nearby, wide-open Mal Eek! right under the basket, who let the ball sail through his hands and out of bounds. :)

TMass had a crowd-wowing hard block, all ball, batting it from the top of its arc, in the air all the past the 3 pt line towards mid-court, right into Tracy's hands who caught it and hit a 3, stealing the thunder from Tony's block. That's what's Stacy's supposed to do, and it looks like messing up the Spurs' paint is something Tony M can do. Go Tony.

Now,now USAPA at this point in the season its not a sin to be wishful!

Besides the Spurs are this years dream team why would'nt they be in celebration mode?

Not a weakness at any position...The core has been together for what?Three years now and, the big bad Lakers have been "de-Shaqued!"
With the exception of Minni and Houston who indeed can stop this team??

"Where are the telegraph poles and lines?"

I didn't see any, probably all buried leading into this almost new civic building.

Anyway, I had my Spurs hardhat on, and that qualifies me to work on utility poles.

I'm sure they are confident that Shaq and Kobe are no longer threats. I asked this question in another thread but I'll ask it here to.

Can Timmy win without a dominant big man doing his dirty work for him? Based on last year, the answer is no.

Being new to this board, one thing I miss in this place is Kings fans optimism about the coming year. But heck, maybe it applies to Spurs fans too.

No USAPA I'm certain that most Spurs fans are aware of the fact that Rasho is not David Robinson...If not, let me say it. Rasho is not David Robinson...

Although not knowing what is going on in camp I'll hush about what or, who may come out of nowhere come next week...

That's actually pretty funny, since many Laker fans don't seem to think the Spurs have ever had a dominant big man. I guess time makes David Robinson look better and better. Soon, Lakerfan might even admit that he's got a shot at the hall-of-fame.

"Congratulations on winning the 2004-2005 NBA Championship without playing a single game!"

This is probably way beyond your unassisted capacity, both mechanically and mentally:

1. to join visually the thread topic line accross the ellipsis to the first line of my post and,

2. hold in short-term memory the ideas of topic line together with the ideas of the first body line to parse and comprehend the sense of the sentence, end to end.

I didn't say the Spurs won the NBA championship.

50 wins for a rebulding team is not bad. How many wins did the Spurs have last year?

One very positive point about my "aquarium watcher" position was that the noise in there was unbearable, but silent outside the glass.

When "fans" left early (like a bunch stayed only to get through the half-time show, and were streaming out all the 3rd qtr), they opened the doors next to me and the noise was deafening.

Even worse, the game announcer had the PA at about 150 db, and was doing his "colorful" best to sound like the dumbfuck motormouth who announces the Rucker Park games on NBA TV, combined with the idiots who shout the futbol games on Tele-Mundo "goooooooaaaaallll GEEENOOOBEEELEEE".

Even the glass couldn't drown the jerk out. hmm, maybe that was was so many "fans" bailed out early.

That answer is 57. Out of the 82 games, Tim missed 13 full and parts of 4 others due to his knee issue.

You don't think, the way the Lakers are structured, that they can get to 57 wins if their star was out for 13 and parts of 4 others due to any issue...DO YOU?

No. But how many intelligent fans would really expect or even think that the Lakers can do that with this team, in this rebuilding season? At best, they are spoilers, and could surprise teams but contenders? Not this year. The question that nobody has answered though is can Timmy win without a dominant big man doing his dirty work for him? He answered that last year with a resounding NO.

you are right, the Spurs did not win the title last year, but to imply they have no chance is foolish and ignorant. They have as good a chance this year as anyone.

i'm new too this board and that is the first thing that came to my mind when i entered this thread.

kings fans=spurs fans with this year champs crap?

last seaon, the spurs were supposed to repeat, no? the lakers returned the favor (dethroning) the spurs with a back door sweep. the lakers went on to the nba finals and got b slap by the leastern conference (cough) i mean eastern confenrence champions detroit pistons.

in the 2004-05 season we really do not know who will win the title.

let us relax and enjoy the season.

But something you missed, Boutons was not calling the Spurs this year's NBA champs, he was saying they were "champs" of the pre-season among the Texas teams. He was having fun....is everyone missing that?

Although it is dishearting to see you lumping all Spurs fans together under the same mindset.

i was wrong for thinking he was talking about the nba title. this guy is worst than kings fans that i know, anything to have nba champions connected to you all teams. it does not matter if its the pacific tittle (kings fans) or winning against other teams in the state of texas...... well, at least the spurs have two rings, cant say the same for the sacramento kings.

no, i was posting my opinion. i except thread titles like this coming from kings fans, not spurs fans. maybe he started this thread because the spurs could not defend their title, 1999 and 2003 champions............2007? just kidding about 2007.

what is the purpose of having a thread topic like this? that is something i would never do. it has nothing to do with the upcoming season. i'm really trying to understand this thread other than being stupid, imo of course.
