Spurs' unsigned draft picks: Robertas Javtokas, Sergei Karaulov, Ian Mahinmi, Viktor Sanikidze, Luis Scola

Web Posted: 09/30/2006 09:49 PM CDT

ROBERTAS JAVTOKAS
Age: 26
Born: March 20, 1980
Birthplace: Siauliai, Lithuania
Size: 6-foot-10, 240 pounds
Position: Forward/center
Drafted: 2nd round (2001), No. 56 overall

2005-06 (Lietuvos Rytas): Lithuanian League (20 games) — 11.3 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 1.7 apg, 2.4 bpg, .620 FG, .476 FT; Euroleague (20 games) — 9.6 ppg, 8.2 rpg, .544 FG, .417 FT; Baltic League (19 games) — 11.7 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 1.3 apg, 2.3 bpg, .601 FG.

Accomplishments: Lithuanian League champion ('06); Baltic League champion ('06); ULEB Cup Final MVP ('05); led '04 Olympics with .684 FG.

Outlook: Signed with Greek power Panathinaikos for 2006-07 season after unable to reach contract agreement with Spurs ... few people expected him to play again after injuring shoulder and leg in serious motorcycle accident in 2002 ... has developed into solid defender ... Spurs could try to sign him next summer if Francisco Elson or Jackie Butler don't work out. Waiting until after 2007-08 season when team has only three players under contract is more likely option.

SERGEI KARAULOV
Age: 24
Born: April 15, 1982
Birthplace: Uzbekistan
Size: 7-foot, 225 pounds
Position: Center
Drafted: 2nd round (2004), No. 57 overall

2005-06 (BC Khimki Moscow): Russian A Superleague (16 games) — 3.5 ppg, 3.1 rpg; Russian B Superleague (25 games) — 10.3 ppg, 7.9 rpg, .520 FG, .580 FT; FIBA EuroCup (four games) — 2.8 ppg, 1.0 rpg.

Accomplishments: FIBA EuroCup finalist ('06); Russian A Superleague finalist ('06); Russian Cup finalist ('06).

Outlook: Returning to BC Khimki Moscow ... needs minutes ... on Spurs' Rocky Mountain Revue roster past two summers, but hasn't played much ... long, long, long shot to ever reach NBA.

IAN MAHINMI
Age: 19
Born: Nov. 5, 1986
Birthplace: Rouen, France
Size: 6-foot-10, 220 pounds
Position: Forward-center
Drafted: 1st round (2005), No. 28 overall

2005-06 (Le Havre): French Pro A League (37 games) — 8.6 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.59 bpg, .561 FG, .618 FT.

Accomplishments: French All-Star Game ('06); Under-20 European Championships ('05).

Outlook: Signed with France's Pau-Orthez for 2006-07 season ... will step up in competition because Pau also plays in Euroleague ... averaged 8.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg, .67 bpg at Rocky Mountain Revue this summer ... expected to join Spurs for 2007-08 season ... if he gets stronger, team officials hopeful he'll be an everyday contributor in two years.

VIKTOR SANIKIDZE
Age: 20
Born: April 1, 1986
Birthplace: Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia
Size: 6-foot-8, 200 pounds
Position: Forward
Drafted: 2nd round (2004), No. 42 overall

2005-06: Spent most of season in San Antonio recovering from surgery to clean out tendinitis in both knees.

Accomplishments: Under-20 Division B European Champions ('06); Under-20 Division B European Championships MVP ('06); played for Dijon in French Pro League from 2003-05.

Outlook: Attended Globe Technical Institute in New York for part of 2001-02 season ... signed with Estudiantes for 2006-07 season ... supposed to play at Rocky Mountain Revue this summer, but returned to Georgia after mother became ill ... was named Under-20 Division B European Championships MVP while averaging 24.3 ppg, 10.9 rpg, .6 bpg ... no one doubts talent, but work ethic needs to improve to have real shot at joining Spurs in two years.

LUIS SCOLA
Age: 26
Born: April 30, 1980
Birthplace: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Size: 6-foot-9, 240 pounds
Position: Forward
Drafted: 2nd round (2002), No. 56 overall

2005-06 (Tau Ceramica): Spanish League (33 games) — 17.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.9 apg, .640 FG, .710 FT; Euroleague (25 games) — 14.7 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 2.2 apg, .540 FG, .679 FT.

Accomplishments: All-Euroleague; Euroleague finals ('05); Euroleague Final Four ('05, '06); Spanish Cup champion ('06); Spanish League MVP ('05); Olympic gold medalist ('04).

Outlook: Returning to Tau Ceramica for 2006-07 season ... NBA buyout reduced to $3.5 million, but still too high for Spurs this summer ... Spurs likely will continue to try to trade his rights. Signing him after 2007-08 season when team has more payroll flexibility remains a possibility.

No Scola.I was going to say http://spurstalk.com/forums/images/smilies/smilol.gif, but I guess the whole Scola issue has been beaten to death already. No need to keep rehashing the obvious. By now everyone knows the situation with Scola.

However, in the spirit of starting some shit, interesting that Bruno didn't add Scola huh? Where is Bruno from again? http://spurstalk.com/forums/images/smilies/smimakemyday.gif

With the same spirit :
Manu "flopping" Ginobili, Fabricio "can't jump" Oberto and Luis "stupid buyout" Scola suck. :lol

From what I was reading he has that Plantar Faschitis that Tim had last season.

Yes, Scola has played last season with a PF but his injury is getting worse during the preseason.
I hope that Duncan won't have the same trouble. (fingercrossed)

Sanikadze (sp? We should make all forigners change their names to Smith or Jones. They could be Smith 21, Smith23, Jones 14, etc) has a bad work ethic?

I guess that's somewhat understandable in a 20 year old, but by God if I had the talent to be making millions at playing a game I love, I'd be working my butt off to get there ASAP. I just don't understand bad work ethics from players, especially wannabes.

What's up with Sanikidze? He didn't even make the boxscore in his team Estudiantes first game.

Im guessing Scola wasnt added in Brunos first post, but he might as well kept it that wa,y since there are no plans for him, in the spurs future.

After a quick goodle search :
He is in Georgia and can't go in Spain because he has a problem with his visa.
