why is it that people keep posting players that may be available.. and then make a statement such as.. " Oh and he can guard DIRK!"...
I just think it's stupid and those posts have overflowed..
Dirk aint no Duncan or Shaq.....
We all know he can be stopped...
(i.e. last year's finals result)
forgive me if you thought this was a waste of post..
I just thought someone needed to post it..
unless its been posted before.. :o

5 Dirk Nowitzki , DAL 7 44.2 27.1 8.3-15.7 .527 .1-1.1 .125 10.4-11.4 .913

He was hampered in the Finals by Haslem, whom the Heat didn't need any offense out of. There's no one like Haslem on the Spurs roster. That's why everyone wants a player who can guard Dirk.

Dirk destroyed the Spurs. The Spurs have no one to guard him.
Thus it is a valid concern.

Probably because the Spurs were not the ones who stopped Dirk and they have been in need of a player who can guard someone like him for a couple of seasons now. The guys the Spurs used last year could not keep him from rebounding at will. They weren't as effective as Haslem or even Posey.

His stats in the conference semis.
Led every game in rebounding and four of the seven in scoring.

There's no one in the market with the same defense as haslem..
Bowen couldn't stop him, what makes you guys think someone will?
It takes someone good to stop a team..
Dirk is all that team has he's gonna get his points...
I don't think Dirk is the reason we lost against the Mavs..
I think it was mistakes.

Would you say Duncan destroyed the Mavs?
I mean he got his stats.. but i dont think you see anyone worrying about trying to get someone that's available that can stop him..
My point is.. it's stupid to try to think that a FA or someone available out there can stop the "all invincible Dirk!"

Yes there is. We just don't know where he's going to come from yet. So we're all speculating on how to get that person on the Spurs.

What was Amare's stats against us in the '05 Conference Finals? Didn't he average 40 points or something? And didn't we still win that? And did we NOT come back from a 3-1 hole last year to force a Game 7 that we almost had (although those types of games go either way anyway). All this belly-aching about Dirk has made me a bit queasy too.
Anyway, chances are that Cuban will mess things up for the Mavs midway through the season, making them non-factors.

There is a tipping point. There might be one or two players that make the difference between advancing from a playoff round and going fishing. That's why everyone is concerned.

Haslem has been a starter for his defense and his shooting...
There is NO ONE available at the moment with the same defensive skill as haslem..

It's almost like you're just hoping someone has good enough defense for this god you call Dirk

You don't understand..
Teams have players that WANT to play for the playoffs and want to win so badly..
You can't guard Dirk because that's all the Mavericks have.. It's almost like saying there's someone out there that can stop Duncan...
There isn't.. Duncan and the other superstars that shine in the playoffs are almost unstoppable when it comes to making a difference, like dirk's..
Our problem wasn't our defense on Dirk..
We all expected him to play great.. There's no one out there that's gonna stop Dirk from making his stats in the playoffs.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm hoping someone's defense will be good enough to hamper our in-state rival's best player. Dirk is not a god, but he did whatever the hell he wanted in Round 2 of last year's playoffs.
I'm speculating that there might be someone who could be signed/traded for or possibly exists on the current roster, because there are playoff studs every year that come out. Trading for Nazr right before the trade deadline in 2005 was probably the difference for the Spurs raising a trophy at the end. Let's not be so shortsighting.

Nazr for Rose?
That was a brilliant trade.. we didn't even have to see Nazr play a game..
We already knew that was a good trade..
There are good defending centers out there we all know it..
But Dirk stoppers?
I don't think so...

Maybe you forgot one thing about a great player. And Dirk is one of them.
That thing you know... like this thing you do... everytime...
It gets old. Just like the same tune Dallas plays we play it too. Ride the back of a guy who can get us there and hold a famous pose. That one player that cannot be figured out. Duncan is head and shoulders above this man, but this man you HAVE to respect.
Common sense? Maybe you think you respect him but you obviously don't. Sure our defense sucked when it mattered the most but why hang on that cliche? Maybe it was just Manu. If he played better helping a gimpy Parker showing then what? More speculation?
If you are going to settle on something to ride into the new season why must it be so hasty?

I'm not sure whom you're addressing, Sense or me. If it's me, I'm not riding anything hasty. What Dirk's game in last year's playoffs against the Spurs revealed are the deficiencies in San Antonio's game plan, many of which don't appear to have been addressed well: rebounding, interior defense, bench depth, etc. That's why we're talking about it.

Dirk is a superstar! Tim is a Superstar! Kobe is a superstar! Superstars can't be stopped, they can only be contained which means not letting them drop 50 pts. on you. It would be a huge mistake for the FO to concentrate all their efforts on matching up w/ one guy. The Blazers did this after losing to the Lakers, which is why they immediately loaded their rosters w/ big men w/ even bigger contracts. It would be nice to have a SF that is 6'9 or so that can swing between sf and pf, but we don't so everyone should get over it already :madrun

Dirk could have scored 60 points a game and it wouldn't have mattered if we hadn't let Terry, Howard, and Harris own the lane.

Your not going to "stop" anyone in today's NBA. Even Ben Wallace can get his if he's determined to and shoots alot of shots. The key is containment.
