View Full Version : Fantasy Football Arbitrator - Need Help

PeterBurns

Okay All. One of My Leagues need help to settle a dispute.
The question that we need help with is to determine if this trade should be allowed.

Here are the Facts
Owner 1 is 1-3.
Owner 2 is 3-1

Both have played Fantasy Football for at least 3 years.
Neither of them know each other very well. (No chance of Collusion)

The Trade:
Owner 1 offers L.T. (RB) for Owner 2's Chad Pennington QB.
Owner 1 is looking for a better QB, Owner 2 is looking for a better RB

Owner 1 already owns Hasslebeck, and Owner 2 already owns Shaun Alexander.

Owner 2 accepts the trade. Owner 1 confirms.
The trade then goes to the Commish who approves the trade.

The next day, several owners in the league raise hell over the trade saying that it hurts the intergrity of the league. The Commish decides to call for a vote and the vote ends 6-5 to veto the trade. The Commish revokes the trade because he feels it stacks Owner 2's team too much, and would result in a unfair advantage

Owner 1 and Owner 2 still are okay with the trade.

Would you allow the trade to go through, or would revoke the trade.

Please respond.

How many QB's and RB's start every week?

Pennington is playing as good as any QB in the NFL right now. LT doesn't have that great of stats because Turner has been playing mop-up and the Ravens stuffed him.

I wouldn't like it, but I see no reason for it not to go thru.

Yeah, but having played fantasy football for three years these guys know that LT is eventually going to start lighting up the scoreboard and Pennington will either get hurt or slow his production down.

I think you could go either way very easily on this but I think it should be revoked, player 3 is already 3-1 and obviously has a winning combination, adding a 20-40 ppg player (depending on the league) would probably indeed make it unfair. Oh, and if player 1 wants to play in any of my leagues next season, let him know he's welcome too because he's an idiot.

PeterBurns

To Date Pennington has 39 points to LT's 22 Points
It's a TD heavy League.

10 Man League
1 QB
2 RB
2 WR
1 WR/TE
1 D
1 K

Passing Td' Points
4 >10 Yards
5 11-30 Yards
6 31-50 Yards

Rushing TD's Points
3 bonus point(s) for scores from 0 to 5 yards.
4 bonus point(s) for scores from 6 to 10 yards.
5 bonus point(s) for scores from 11 to 15 yards.
6 bonus point(s) for scores from 16 to 20 yards.

So should the league revoke it just because it makes a team stronger.
Despite their being no collusion?

That's a good point. Plus the vote was only 6-5. The problem you'll run into though is that you'll allow this trade, then LT will go off and put it in the endzone four times next week. Everyone will bitch and moan and say the integrity of the league had clearly been ruined because the commish didn't revoke the trade.

That's a tough call, usually you don't run into someone trading LT unless they are trying to ruin a league on purpose.

Pennington is the #9 and #10 QB in my FF leagues...avg pts per game...

LT is in the top 3 RB's in both leagues. 376 total yds, 11 rec, and 3 TD's thru 3 games (one against Balt) is that great?? :lol

That trade is garbage...

PeterBurns

But Yardage is barely a factor in this league.
So Far to Date.
Pennington has 39 Pts in this League and LT has 22 Points

PeterBurns
10-05-2006, 04:22 PM
If we revoke it, then we basically told one player that his team is too good, and I don't think that's fair.

Owner 2 didn't ask for the trade, it was offered to him.
And I don't have 8 pissed owners, we have 5 out of 10.

So what...LT has more VALUE. How many other RB's have 20+ pts?

How many other QB's have 35+ pts?

You'd have to have to most F'd up scoring system and roster combo in order to make that trade legit in any way...

It looks to me like Owner 1 is mailing it in and helping Owner 2 out...is this a money league??

Who are owner 2's other RB's such that he can afford to dump a top 3 RB year in year out for a barely top 10 QB coming off an injury??? :drunk

PeterBurns
10-05-2006, 04:38 PM
Owner 1 likes Pennington, and isn't mailing it in as their in still 12 weeks left in the season.

This is a money league, yet knowing both of the players there is no chance for collusion.

Kori Ellis
10-05-2006, 04:53 PM
That trade is crap.

I never veto anything, but I'd veto it in a heartbeat. It doesn't matter their points (22 vs 30whatever), it matters how good they are relative to other players of their position. At the end of the season LT is one of the top RB's in the league and Pennington is a midrange QB.

rasho8
10-05-2006, 04:54 PM
Owner 1 knows hes screwed.. trading LT for Chad is not only retarded, but it does nothing but boostOwner 2 to a close lock once the RB games start taking off, which they do in the second quarter of the season.
Does Owner 1 not like the guy who is in first or second place right now?

timvp
10-05-2006, 04:56 PM
If a draft happened right now, LT would be the #1 overall pick. Pennington would be like a 8th rounder at best.

Unless you guys have some weird scoring system, that's a trade you have to shoot down.

DisgruntledLionFan#54,927

It's scary that 3 other owners found nothing wrong with the trade.

kris
10-05-2006, 05:44 PM
Pete,

There's no way that trade can go through. If you look at virtually any league, QBs all have more points than RBs. It's like pointing out that Jeff Wilkins is worth more than Rudi Johnson. Players points are relative to their position.

In one of my league's scoring system, Pennington is tied with Frye. So it's at that point you could say LT for Charlie Frye. Right now, many of the QBs are overachieving right now while the RBs are having a terrible year. David Carr is actually at number 4. So what about David Carr for Shaun Alexander? Alexander is much worse off than LT and Carr is doing much better than Pennington.

If the owners really want to make the deal go through, tell the Pennington owner to throw in something else so it's not completely one sided. Plus, I'm sure if the LT owner looked around, someone would give him a much better QB than Pennington and a middle tier RB.

LEONARD
10-05-2006, 05:53 PM
I guarantee he could get more for LT...a lot more...

PeterBurns
10-05-2006, 05:56 PM
This has caused so much controversy because the Commish Approved the trade and now has revoked it.

Owner 2 IS PISSED, Threatning to drop out of the league.

I see his point. Why should he be penalized for drafting a good team, and then an owner who has a man crush on Pennington overpays and give him LT.

In my opinion, I would only veto a trade if it was clear that one of the following was happening.

1) Their was something fishy behind the scenes (Collusion)
2) It was late in the season, (Week 8 or later).
3) Owner 2 who is getting LT would have intiated the trade.

But none of those 3 happens.
It's a case that Owner 1 made a stupid trade.

It's getting ugly.

PeterBurns
10-05-2006, 05:57 PM
Now the commish has come out and said that LT cannot be traded to anyone else except for Owner 2, but only if the deal is sweetened.

Which now is really messed up.
Owner 2 now has to ask the league for what would be a fair trade.
WOW!

kris
10-05-2006, 06:00 PM
Owner 2 should have known better than to send a trade forward that was so lopsided. All he had to do was throw in some token player that has a chance of contributing and the deal could be ok.

Trades like that ruin leagues. The Commish should have never let that go through.

Since the commish let the trade go thru, the league might be screwed into letting the trade stand. The commish should have told the person to improve the trade to the point it was close to fair. Like LT for Pennington and a mid-level RB would be something that could pass.

Now it sounds like whatever outcome, the league is screwed.

PB -- if people complain, just throw in Deuce McAllister. He's your fourth RB and behind the three ahead of him, you'd probably never play him. Plus in a 10 man league, there's probably another RB out there worth almost as much as Deuce on the waiver wire.

You are still ripping him the hell off either way. :lol

That trade should not go through.

Its not only collusion why trades should not go thru its also to block stupid owners from stacking up a team with dumb deals.

LT is the best rb this year and Pennington is just an average qb. LT was drafted top 3 and Pennington was a waiver pickup in most leagues. When Alexander comes back, team 2 will have LT and Alexander as his rbs, two of the top 3 picks in drafts. How can anyone compete against that stacked backfield?

Spurminator
10-06-2006, 11:07 AM
In my opinion, commissioners should only veto trades where there is obvious collusion. They shouldn't be in the practice of deciding on behalf of a team if they are getting screwed in a trade.

Sometimes you have to trade a great player from a position where you have depth in order to improve on a position where you're lacking. Those players paid their entry fees. Maybe someone from another team should have offered up a QB better than Pennington.

I would guess the league wouldn't have a problem with this trade if the two teams' records were reversed.

Trading a top 3 rb pick who is healthy and doing well for an average qb who likely was picked up off waivers is not a fair trade.

A commisssioner should know the value of players and should only have a say to over turn if the league vetoes a fair trade. If the commissioner doesn't know the value of players and lets everything pass what is the point of having a commissioner.

Pennington is #7 and LT is #2.

The point is, if I'm starting a QB that's getting 5 ppg and I'm three deep at RB (and can only start 2), I'm going to trade a RB to get a better QB. I may have to get a slightly inferior player for my RB, but I still upgrade QB substantially.

I'm not saying this trade was good strategy, but you can't always just compare the two players involved in a trade without considering other factors.

Is that in avg ppg or total? Pennington is around #10 in both of my leagues (avg ppg, ignoring Batch).

Of course you can't just compare the players, but we're talking about a 2 players in different worlds here...

Sounds about right...LT is a top tier RB year in and year out, and Chad is a marginal top 10 QB, for 4 games this season anyway...

Worst trade in the history of FF :lol

It's all about value. LT and Duece are not even remotely close to each other in value, while Hasselbeck probably still holds more value than Pennington.

This trade would get laughed at in 99.9999999999999% of leagues.

I'd be interested to hear if issues arise about problems in the ensuing weeks. Regardless if there was no collusion, if just two people believe differently, they might decide to work together and work for their best interest. In other words, the appearance of collusion begets collusion.

The only reason why I threatned to pull out of the league. Is because the trade was approved, and executed, and LT was in my starting lineup, until 2 of the guys that are friends with the Commish, called him personally and said he had to stop the trade. So then, the commish revoked the trade and took LT from my team.

the sensible thing to do, is not bitch and complain until you get your way...like a baby. i don't care what the circumstances were, its obvious part of the league did not want the trade to go through and at the very most you should have presented your case in a respectable manner. but you handled it like a girl...and also fucked your league over in the process.

i don't have anything against you, in fact i doubt i will ever meet you. but your actions are what you will be judged by...not your words or explanation thereafter.

finally, it is never too late to do the right thing...that applies in more than way, in this league.

Good thing Peter Burns was able to trade Chad Pennington while his value was high. After his 71 yard, 3 INT performance, he'd probably only be able to get Larry Johnson for him.
