Blood Clot

Has anyone ever had a blood clot/deep vein thrombosis? I'm 29, and I don't think I'm supposed to have this shit.

Has anyone dealt with this? What was your experience?

I assume that you've actually had this diagnosed and are not just guessing.

They're not unheard of in someone your age, but usually occur in older people.

The blood clot in your leg is not itself particularly dangerous, but a clot breaking off and traveling to your lungs is.

Things that can increase your risk for getting one include: previous damage to the leg (fracture, surgery, etc.), being immobile for long periods (which is why a lot of airlines now give you instructions for stretching your legs on trips). Also, some medications, blood disorders, or malignancies.

Treatment is usually oral blood thinners for 3-6 months (and changes in your diet since these can interact with the medication).

What you write is about exactly what I've been told. I have been diagnosed, and I received shots of low molecular weight heparin in my tummy every 12 hours over the weekend. Fortunately, I can get by on oral meds for the next several weeks.

I sit at my desk for the better part of 12 hours each day at work, so maybe that has something to do with it.

I'm told that it's in a good place and that it's not very big, so I'm hoping that it will get taken care of over the next few weeks and I'll be 100%.

My father had a major blood clot after he had a cancer tumor removed from his leg. I hope it not as serious because my dad's blood clot almost killed him. He is fine now 2yrs later no cancer and only had the one blood clot but it was scary. Take care of yourself.

My ex husband had that when he was about your your age. It was after an injury that required though. He was laid up in the hospital and developed the condition in his leg. It reoccurred on several occasions when he was laid up for periods due to illness or injury after that. He was also treated with heparin initially and then coumadin (warfarin) orally. I have no idea if he still has problems with it since I don't talk to him any more.

Yup - I was diagnosed with Lupus Anti-coaguli... at 29. Have to take blood thinners. Not the end of the world...
