Pacers' Tinsley signs contract extension

October 29, 2004

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Indiana Pacers starting point guard Jamaal Tinsley signed a six-year contract extension, the team announced Friday.

The 6-foot-3, 183-pound Tinsley was the Pacers' first-round draft pick in 2001. He averaged 8.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game in 2003-04, helping the Pacers to a franchise record 61 wins.

In three seasons in the NBA, he has averaged 8.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game in 205 contests.

``We are very happy to have Jamaal Tinsley signed to a contract that carries him into the future with the Pacers,'' team CEO and president Donnie Walsh said in a statement. ``He is a very important part of our team.''

Details of the contract extension were not immediately available. Tinsley's current contract runs through the end of the 2004-05 season.
