Boston gets former first-rounder Jackson for backup center

BOSTON (AP) -- Luke Jackson, a swing man who was the 10th pick in the 2004 draft, was traded Friday from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Boston Celtics for center Dwayne Jones.

In two seasons since leaving Oregon, the 6-foot-7 Jackson has averaged 2.7 points and 7.8 minutes in 46 games. He missed 32 games last season with a broken left wrist.

Jones averaged 1 point and 2.2 rebounds in 6.2 minutes in 14 games for Boston as a rookie last season. He signed with Minnesota as an undrafted free agent out of Saint Joseph's and was traded in a deal that also brought forward Wally Szczerbiak to the Celtics.

Boston also received an undisclosed amount of cash as part of the deal for Jackson.

It's a good deal for both teams :

- Cleveland get some flexibility. They will be able to do some moves or to sign some players without hitting the luxury tax.

- Boston get a player who was a lottery pick for nothing. Jackson is likely a bust but who knows... They even get some cash to pay his salary.
