How I loathe thee.

I take 37N through downtown to I-35 S to I-10 W through Medical every morning, which inevitably means I'm screwed by traffic. I'd like to know if there's a quicker route. Anyone familiar with the traffic on 410 from 281 to 10 W from 7am-8am?

Not sure if there is a quicker route...

Traffic blows.

I think a lot of congestion will be cut down once the 281/410 interchange is complete.

I think so too. B/c by that time, we'll all have hover cars and won't need to take that way so much. Great scott!

I know the feeling Katy. I have to leave my home an hour early to get to work on time. Traffic in the 410 & IH10 sux.

And it only gets worse in winter, with the cold and rainy weather.

You could do a test run both ways and see which is quicker though.

There's no way getting around not taking the highway for me, unfortunately. I guess I'll leave earlier than early some day soon and test 281 to 410 to I-10.

Don't worry, I moved from Denver to SA a couple of years ago and thought the same thing, you'll get just as sick of it here as you do there.

i had the worst traffic experience ever in houston... i believe a pipeline had exploded or leaked near the freeway a few years ago and they diverted 5 lanes into 1... it took me about 4 hours to go from pasadena to katy.

Metro does rule. I had a rental car for the first half of my DC trip and pretty much all of the time, it was easier to ride the Metro. By the time the rest of the people from the program showed up, I was a Metro Pro.

I only used the car to go exploring.

Katy, what?

You want to avoid sitting in traffic, yes?

If you leave 15 mins earlier, you will get to work sooner, and you will be happier.

Yes?

This would mean waking up earlier or spending less time on my hair, both of which are out of the question.

i do have some family in pasadena... but we don't go up there that much anymore because they come here more often. you miss pearland or pasadena?

were you there when it snowed like 1/2 an inch and everybody went nuts?

Spurfect
10-17-2006, 12:13 PM
I miss Pasadena. lived there for a long time and was on my own but had a good network of friends.

I was actually here in S.A. when the snow thing happened, wasn't it the same time that it snowed here in S.A. too? but yeah, it was barely anything lol

the only thing i can remember liking about pasadena was that my aunt had like 6 dogs. she wasn't necessarily on the good side of town so maybe i just didnt see enough of it.

to go to my job I have to go IH 10 and get on 410... I said screw that and don't even bother with getting on IH 10. I just go through Vance Jackson and Jackson Keller, get on 410 from there. makes it much simpler and I get to work in 20 min. coming from NW side and going to NE

I go on I-10 to downtown but the traffic was getting so bad some mornings that I just took 410 to 281 downtown and it was pretty much the same. I just swerve through everyone like I have mad road rage... gets you there faster. :lol

it's been my experience that no matter how slow traffic appears to be moving on the highway... the access roads will almost always be slower... going 5 mph > stopped @ 4 consecutive red lights.

Try leaving 5 minutes earlier, then 10, then 15. Sometimes there will be a miraculous "break point" where leaving earlier than the point gets you to where you want to go significantly faster than the difference in departure time.

When I was just out of high school as still living at the parents house, I took the mandatory job at West Telemarketing (I think they have offer letters printed on the back of all high school diplomas in San Antonio). The break point was 7:17a. If I left before this time, I could be at work in 15-20 mins. If I left even 5 mins after that? A 30-35 min ordeal.

If you can manage to pry yourself off the bed a few minutes earlier, it might be worth it to try. But I do have to mention that I don't exactly practice what I preach. I'm skidding into the parking lot a minute before work starts. :lol
