I know Ludden mentioned it in the paper, but the Spurs just issued the official word:

SPURS RELEASE FAMUTIMI, MELZER AND REINER

The San Antonio Spurs announced today that they have released guard Olu Famutimi, forward Rich Melzer and center Jared Reiner.

Melzer appeared in four preseason games for the Spurs, averaging 2.8 points in 7.8 minutes of action. Famutimi and Reiner appeared in three preseason games without scoring.

The Spurs training camp roster now stands at 17.

Forgive me for asking but whats the roster limit these days. 16 or didn't they just make it 17

15

They have Melvin Sanders, Jamar Smith and Charles Lee who are unguaranteed and fighting for the possible 15th spot.

Based on what I saw last night, Smith is the only one who really has any potential. I love how Smith goes strong down the baseline anytime its there. It he can up his court awareness that baseline drive is going to create a lot of open looks for others.

I think the last spot will go to Sanders.

Devin has been available for a week, so I seriously doubt this will happen. The Spurs are content with their Summer Brownie Camp pickups.

Yeah, not having seen anything, but from the reports it sounded like Melzer had potential... no?

Oh well, they know better than we do about these things, that's fer sure and certain.

Rich Melzer has signed a 6 weeks contract with Villeurbanne (the french team that played against Spurs in Lyon).
It's only a 6 weeks contract because in the french league, a team can sign a new player for the duration of a player injury and Brian Greene (who was very good in the game against Spurs) is out for 6 weeks.
