On the way home last night I contemplated driving up to Houston for this game.

I would have been in for quite a surprise when that line up was announced.
I'm kind of glad I decided to be practical. :lol

Yeah the Rockets should be embarrassed so far. They were pretty much running their regular rotation against Spurs bench.

He's a decent shooter.

Beno has to pass a physical test before the Spurs will clear him to play. Apparently he hasn't passed it yet or I think he would have played tonight. Tony, Manu, Tim and Bruce didn't even go on the trip.

Yao played a lot of minutes for a pre-season game. When Butler came in, he thus became Yao's bitch. Sad. Abused time and time again in the post.

Elson was much more successful against him.

Always glad to be wrong when it comes to Spur deficiencies. :)

He has looked great in the other preseason games, tonight he just sucked. He has nice hands and good post moves. And he's not afraid to bang at all. I think with the combination of Oberto-Butler-Elson and their variety of strengths, the Spurs will be fine. They are all very different.

Elson and Oberto were pretty decent. They are both have the ability to be pretty good backup centers.

Butler sucked and got owned by Yao Ming. Good thing is that the last center to get owned by Yao Ming that bad was David Robinson. :smokin

Eric Williams looks like he ate Eric Williams.

Finley looks good. Barry looks pretty decent.

Bonner doesn't look like he's in the best of shape and is passing up shots.

Vaughn is playing about as well as Jacque Vaughn can play. Hopefully he is a third-stringer, though.

Beno has successfully avoided playing in training camp.

Melvin Sanders, Charles Lee and Jamar Smith all look bad. Each knew they had to leave a mark today to help themselves make the team. None of them responded. Best move might be finding someone not currently on the team ....

With only one more preseason game and these new guys still looking pretty lost, I can't imagine the Spurs start the season too strong. But perhaps the Big Three will be enough to carry this team the whole season while they wait for the rest of the team to catch up.

Kori Ellis
10-23-2006, 07:26 AM
Bonner doesn't look like he's in the best of shape and is passing up shots.

He doesn't look in shape at all (that's what I've been saying for the last few games) but I think that's just how he looks. This was actually one of his better games :lol

Melvin didn't do that bad (4-for-6 for 8 pts) and I think just because he is so well liked by the coaches and his teammates that he has the best chance of the 3. In the postgame, Mike Bud said: "Melvin Sanders is someone we love. He is a Spur." and went on to say, "Great work ethic, great attitude. He has that fiber we think is so important and everyone in the organization loves him."

We'll see.
