Beacon Journal - Mike Brown, head coach of the Cavaliers, expects to make his final two cuts by the middle of this week.

Guard Stephen Graham and center Ondrej Starosta are the candidates most likely to be released.

Stephen was in training camp last year for the Spurs. He was cut at this time last year, along with Melvin and Sharrod Ford. The Spurs ended up re-signing Melvin later.

It does seem like Stephen works harder, probably because he had to fight his way into the league, but there had to be a few reasons why Joey was a first rounder and Stephen went undrafted.

Joey's got the edge on athleticism and is more of an "inside" presence, but I think both round out to be little better than role players. To be honest, I wouldn't mind either, but I think they both are more attractive options for the long-term issue of athletic/long 3 than Melvin.

I watched a lot of Stephen last year because I watched a lot of CBA games. I just think that long term he'll end up better (though you are right, they aren't going to be stars or anything).

I think the Spurs, if they keep anyone, will end up keeping Melvin because of his relationship with the team more than his on the court abilities. Sort of like Sean Marks in past seasons.

blazers.com - The Portland Trail Blazers today claimed guard/forward Stephen Graham off waivers.

Graham averaged 3.0 points and 7.0 minutes in three games for the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2006-07 preseason. He also played for the Cavaliers in the 2006 Vegas Summer League. In five games he averaged 9.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 24.4 minutes.

The 6-6 swingman played in 22 NBA games in his rookie season (2005-06) with Chicago, Houston and Cleveland averaging 2.6 points, 1.2 rebounds and 8.0 minutes.

Born June 11, 1982, Graham played his junior and senior seasons at Oklahoma State University before going undrafted in the 2005 NBA Draft.

That would be odd since Udoka has been playing so well in pre-season. But if they do I would defiantly like the Spurs to take a look at him.

That's why I said maybe. Udoka is a pretty versatile player and everyone likes him wherever he goes. I kinda pulling for him since he's older and has fewer chances than a guy like Graham.

All 3 obviously OSU Alums, so schooled in good defense. Agreed that Joey is the best of the 3. Depends on what you are looking for - Joey is more offensive and Melvin was the B12 Defensive Player of the Year.
