CHICAGO BULLS NOTES

Extension update: General manager John Paxson gave a brief update on the progress of negotiations on a contract extension for Kirk Hinrich.

“I honestly don’t know what will happen,” Paxson said. “We’ve had discussions (with agent Jeff Austin). We’ve made our cases. I think during these talks, we’ve been very fair and very open to what the reality of the market is and all that. If it doesn’t get done, next summer we will have the opportunity to do it again.”

One thing to keep in mind: The Milwaukee Bucks expect to be about $14 million below the salary cap next summer, and GM Larry Harris has stated his goal is to sign a point guard. The Bulls can match any offer for Hinrich, but the Bucks could drive up the price.
