Jackie and I were sitting directly behind the Mavs bench, about 5 feet away from Avery Johnson (that was dangerous!). Our waiter, Steve, offered to get us beer so we could throw it at AJ, but we refrained.

We got to talk to most of the guys before the game. Matt Bonner came out of the locker room and looked around like, "Someone, please, ask for my autograph." I think he signed for one kid. He did have one good move in the game where he had a one-handed bank shot that was nice.

Bruce Bowen talked with the kids from Bowen's Buddies for a while. Jackie told him that 14Dave said hi, he said, "Who?" Jackie said, "The guy that does the wallpapers for you" and then he knew who Dave was. He said thanks!

When Tim Duncan came by, we yelled out "Crucian Shaman!". He smiled. He yelled at the guy next to us though, he said, "You and your buddy across the way are going to ruin it for everyone." You could tell they were collecting autographs to sell them and TD was not happy about it.

I didn't know who Francisco Elson was before the game (I think Jackie got his autograph) but we certainly did by the end, wow! He had a fabulous game. He walked by us after the end of the game when we were talking to Greg Moore, we congratulated him. I kept calling him KG because he looks a lot like KG.

Michael Finley missed the game because he had the flu. I saw Beno Udrih sitting on the bench so I went over to talk to him. He remembered me from meeting on the sidewalk in LA, we talked about the luncheon a bit but then security told me I had to go back by the railing by the lockerroom.

A few minutes later, Horry was sitting next to Beno on the bench. I went back there and the same security guy told me I had to leave again, but Robert saw me so I got to talk to him. He mentioned that he's working on creating an official website - I can't wait to see what that looks like.

Tony Parker was the sweetest he's ever been. He saw me and asked how I was doing and how my summer was. I told him the Spurs are coming to LA for back-to-back games, he said, "Oh yeah, in December." (he must know because of Eva). I told him I'd be there and he said, "Of course!" Then he continued signing autographs and when he was all done, he came back to me and said, "I'll see you in December." Isn't he too cute??
Oh yeah - 14Dave, we told him you said hi.

Manu Ginobili, as he always does, signed every autograph. When he got close, I yelled out, "The Butcher!" He got a big smile on his face. I asked him when we'd see him on his forums again, he admitted that it's been a while since he's been on there but hopefully soon.

Our seats were incredibly good, I had thought they were 4th row seats but apparently the first row is the 4th row so we were basically courtside. At halftime, Bruce came up to Avery Johnson and gave him a big BEAR HUG and make a comment about bear hug defense. I almost fell over laughing.

Great game, GREAT win!

I hate these shooting shirts because of the back. But I like the other shirts.

No offense, but you really do need to respect the job that security is attempting to do. You have no pass nor credentials. There is no reason why you should be walking up to the bench unsolicited. If someone knows you and calls you over, that is fine, but otherwise you really do belong in the designated areas.

That sucks. I don't even ask NBA players for autographs any more, because how are they going to know that I'm not going to just go put it up on eBay the next day? If I played in the NBA I'd never sign an autograph for anyone who looked older than 17 for that very reason.

ploto
10-28-2006, 09:58 AM
The point is- if people continue to violate basic security rules then no one will get to be down there. There was a time in the playoffs one year that no one got an autograph- no one got to stand by the tunnel,... It has been done before for security reasons.

She quoted what Tim said about those guys ruining it for everyone. Well, I hate to say it, but if everyone decided to do what she does, it would ruin it, too, and no one would get the opportunity.

As to the autograph guys- they are there just about every game. The players start to recognize them.

Keep your comments to yourself because you obviously did miss the point. The guys know me, that's why they let me stay and talk to Robert because I know him.

Are you just going out of your way to be nasty to people right now or what? First the Luncheon thread (notice I made sure to spell Crucian Shaman correctly) and now this.

You could tell with these guys, they had 2 bags full of stuff and were trying to get 2 autos from each player but had his little girl getting autos too.

Keep your comments to yourself because you obviously did miss the point. The guys know me, that's why they let me stay and talk to Robert because I know him.

If they want to talk to you and call you over, security would not be telling you to move. To go back after security already told you to move once is wrong. Period. If you are their friend, you would have passes to go where you want to go. You do not belong going over uninvited to sit by players on the bench. Security knows who their friends and family are and doesn't shoo them away. For you to brag about defying specifically what security has told you is wrong. The players need to be secure from everyone and sorry but that includes you. Just because you have successfully bypassed security on a regular basis at multiple arenas to meet players does not make it okay. The players know who a lot of people are who are regular game attendees but they stay where they are supposed to out of respect for the players and the rules.

And sorry but I do get the point. I know exactly who you are. I have watched you before try to wriggle your way into places you don't belong. I guess neither me nor Spurs security got the memo that the rules don't apply to you.

Okay, before this gets out of hand, let's just drop it. Ploto is right in the sense that security is just doing their job to protect the team. And if people break rules, it eventually ruins it for everyone. But Misti does have history with some of the players, so I understand that exceptions are sometimes made for her.

So let's just leave it at that.

Thanks.
